Don't get pregnant. Works every time, guaranteed.

Oh, it's too late for that...? Sorry! Oooh! I know! Give birth! That works too. Eventually.

[useless]

Lindenlass · 03/04/2009 15:19

try anything that you can until you find the thing that helps! Bizarrely fatty food helped me - McDonalds , believe it or not!

Also, get your B vitamins up - take some supplements. That can affect your nausea.

Huge sympathy - I had horrific sickness and vomitting with DD3 - thankfully was far better with DD4.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 03/04/2009 15:19

I'm afraid the only thing that has ever worked for me is medication (cyclizine) and rest.

PlumpChocEggyBaps · 03/04/2009 15:27

I've heard ginger can help? Maybe gingernuts or cake.

pavlovthepregnantcat · 03/04/2009 15:28

rest? god what is that?! GP gave me a week off for exhaustion, dh is not working and dd is not in nursery, so between the 2 of em! house is chaos and they do not exactly make it easy. DH moans mainly! He has just taken dd out for a couple of hours, but was grumpy about it!

pavlovthepregnantcat · 03/04/2009 15:29

plump - see, i know about ginger. I absolutely hate ginger, unfortunately

pavlovthepregnantcat · 03/04/2009 15:35

how about gagging on an empty stomach? better to eat toast and then chuck that up? or just liquid? god i hope this passes soon.

With dd, I had this throughout. I could eat fruit and yoghurt, pasta and thats it. now, not even that is working

Kathyis6incheshigh · 03/04/2009 15:36

Ah. Rest is where you don't do stuff. Believe me it makes a difference. I think your dh needs a talking to.

Have you also tried:
very hot drinks
very cold drinks
fizzy drinks

pavlovthepregnantcat · 03/04/2009 15:38

very hot drinks, sort of work. cold drinks, sometimes yes, sometimes no. at night they seem to help. fizz, again sometimes yes, sometimes no.

I find bananas are good for not tasting vile on the way up.

I always feel worse when I've been throwing up orange bile, so good to have something in there I think, but liquid is less unpleasant to throw up than solid IMO.

It will pass. Breathe deeply (actually fresh air helps me too) and think of floaty canvas tents.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 03/04/2009 15:40

Sucking sweets is another thing that can help - something to do with blood sugar I think.

pavlovthepregnantcat · 03/04/2009 15:48

kathy - i have been thinking of floaty tents, and where i will chuck up we go camping .

things that are too sweet are making me ill, apart from soleros . might have to get dh pick me some up...

just had some plain bread, and now sipping hot squash - have hiccups. For some reason, that seems to make me feel a bit like it is passing .

Deep breaths, lots of them, can't face the outside right now, just need my bed, so i might open the window!

Ooh. Bit late now, maybe. (Threadwise, I mean)

Flat Coke apparently works sometimes.

Shame about the ginger though.

tummytickler · 03/04/2009 20:58

Hi
I am broodily lurking on the pregnancy board .
But for what its worth the following helped me to varying degrees and with different pregnancies.

  • Travel sickness bands
  • sugarless fizzy drinks (esp soda water or diet coke)
  • icepops
  • fruit teas (normally hate these)
  • MacDonalds chips

Agree with pp about medication - works brilliantly when all else fails (had this with dc4 as i just could not cope with sickness and 3 other dcs).

McSnail · 04/04/2009 08:40

A good morning sickness cure...?

How childbirth, haha. :0

McSnail · 04/04/2009 08:41

ABOUT. Sigh.

Serves me right for trying to be clever. Plus I got the avatar code wrong. What a pillock.

gamermommy · 04/04/2009 08:47

you can buy these from places like boots they are travel sickness acupuncture bands
these are them

they worked great for me in both pregnancies, i dont know if thet actually work or if its a mind over matter thing, anyway they worked

compo · 04/04/2009 08:55

drink squash throughout the day instead of water as it gives you more energy
have you tried biscuits like rich tea or digestives if you can't stomach ginger nuts?
also you could try smoothies or cuppa soups if you can't stomach a meal

sassy · 04/04/2009 08:59

DRugs. Its the only way. And giving birth, getting that placenta out again. Nothing else works if you are a hyperemesis person. Sorry. Get yourself to the GP, is my advice.

In the meantime, chupa chup lollies help some people - bit of sugar in the system and relieves the god-awful taste for a few minutes.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 04/04/2009 10:03

How are you feeling today Pavlov?

Astrophe · 04/04/2009 12:29

I found nothing really 'worked'...just a few things eased it a little (sorry!). VERY cold water helped a little, although I could only drink anything at all in the middle of the night, so DH woke we at midnight with a drink each night, and that was pretty much my fluid for the day.

Also gelato went down ok, and seemed to settle my stomach a bit. Frozen bits of orange was sometimes ok, also frozen tinned pineapple.

They don't really give drugs here, unless you get admitted to hospital, but I hear they are the bomb, so maybe get some if you can.

Good luck, it really is the pits isn't it? Just awful

pavlovthepregnantcat · 05/04/2009 17:58

Hey, I now have some accupressure bands on.

They are working a treat, that and chuppa chup lollies! I mainly got those as they sounded nice but they are helping.

I have had one day of no sickness whatsoever and I was able to go to a friends for a bbq. I am feeling sick in the evening, like right now! But maybe this is the cure for me? I put the bands on before I got up this morning, and they have not been off since!

I can't face much food though, I can eat mainly fruit, chicken and can drink juice and sparkly water or hot squash only. Even water does not sit right.
