When I farted before it bubbled up into my vagina, being 19 weeks pregnant I worry is this like being blown into wilst having oral sex. I know it is dangerous but it this different as it wasn't forced in? Even though it was rather alot of wind!

Yerh, sure I would know by now if I was gonna die of air buble, baby been moving so all good there. I think like someone pointed out it would have to be with such force, this is suppose a natural occurance.

Also how can you get air.am when there is no direct acess to blood vessels, iyswim. I too think it may be urban myth as would hear about it more!

"Sometimes it goes right from back to front and I get a round of applause"

mrsboogie · 29/03/2009 23:22

what? so people actually blow up there to cause fanjo farts? deliberately?
what perversion is this?

fookin' ell re the poster who had sex 2 days after giving birth - you're made of sterner stuff than me!

LynetteScavo · 29/03/2009 23:31

Having sex 2 days after birth is not a good idea - there was a woman who died due to having sex so soon after giving birth. I'll try to find a link.

DSM · 29/03/2009 23:33

I am not disputing that air going inside you isn't dangerous, I wasn't aware of it but I have learned.

However.. I am disputing that a fart can go back inside, up your vagina. Thats ridiculous.

It's never happened to me, but I imagine it could if you were sitting down wearing jeans.

mrsboogie · 29/03/2009 23:36

I don't understand it myself - how would you know it had gone "up" rather than just passed the entrance? not taking the piss here at all.

EachPeachPearMum · 29/03/2009 23:43

Lynette- amusingly the pathologist in that article is named Dr Batman!

DSM- its not ridiculous, its bloody uncomfortable.

Should have name changed, but a bit late now.
I only suffer this in the few months post-partum- I think it's the added flab... ... as Lynette says- sitting down...jeans...specific angle...

mrsboogie · 29/03/2009 23:43

"The researchers said it was more common for women to have air embolisms if they had deep penetrative sex with their knees against their chest."

after giving birth? sweet jesus.

louii · 29/03/2009 23:45

I have this prob occasionally as well since having an episiotomy, depending on what position you are sitting in it does indeed seem as though it goes up there rather than just passing entrance, lol
Serious pelvic floor excercises have helped a lot, as has losing some weight.

NotanOtter · 29/03/2009 23:47

( eachpeach i have a feeling said dr lives a few doors down from me!)

NotanOtter · 29/03/2009 23:49

ooh just asked dp and it IS !!

will ask him more when i see him!

hobbgoblin · 29/03/2009 23:54

Crikey, that is off putting. Doubt I'll have any offers this time anyhow.

You shouldn't bath straight after birth for the same reason I have heard.

purpleduck · 29/03/2009 23:56

"How can a fart 'bubble up'? Its air."

DSM, have you never farted in the bath....?

EachPeachPearMum · 30/03/2009 00:19

roffle @ batman living next to otterwoman!

HecAteTheEasterBunny · 30/03/2009 08:48

DSM - about 7 people on this thread have said that this happens to them - are you saying that we have all decided to lie about it?!! That would be ridiculous. You may not have experienced it, but the feeling exists. Other people are telling you that they have experienced that feeling. How can you turn around and say that we haven't? That the very idea is ridiculous?

We are telling you that we have and we know because we farted and felt it slither along and then had a sort of 'pop' or tickle or suddenly full sensation in our fannies!! Now it doesn't mean the damn thing goes in and blows a raspberry on the cervix! But it certainly can and does enter the vagina. And this feeling feels like air has been forced along the only route available to it and popped into the first available area! If it can't get out backwards (tight clothes, seating position etc), it travels forwards instead - you can't see how it could go in the entrance to the vagina as it's passing by there?

LackaDAISYcal · 30/03/2009 10:28

lol at your graphic description hecate

and DSM...you should count yourself blessed that it hasn't happened to you yet, as it is really quite disconcerting and embarrasing. But as we used to say when I was a child and being teased, "mocking's catching"; so you never know it might just happen to you yet!

Must be something to do with all the hormones flying round hobgoblin....but respect to ya . I'm 21 weeks post partum and still don't have the urge!!

AzureBlueSky · 30/03/2009 12:09

This has happened to me too (farts finding their way into fanjo). Most disconcerting but vaguely entertaining...I wasn't pregnant at the time either. I very much doubt it does any harm. You're not alone!

Buda · 30/03/2009 12:23

Happens to me too!

I had read about blowing air into the vagina being dangerous too.

And am in total shock at wanting to have sex 2 days after giving birth!!

mummymama · 31/03/2009 06:47

I am so glad I found this string of comments- I was actually googling this very topic myself as I am 14 weeks pregnant and the same thing happened to me. I was quite worried, and this isn't the sort of thing you bring up with your mates at work, you know what I mean? Anyway, as far as air going into the vagina during pregnancy, it IS possibly dangerous, but I've found nothing about flatulence being strong enough to cause concern. Feel much better after reading all this! Thanks everyone!

sparkle12mar08 · 31/03/2009 13:19

May as well 'fess up, it happens to me too! Especially sitting at a desk all day... But as for anyone genuinely, seriously worrying that it might be fatal to them or the baby - I mean come on, I just don't get it, sorry. We're all reasonably educated, no? So how on earth can anyone be honestly worried that a brushing of air past the labia and vulva could kill them?!! Hecate's description is perfect, it is not akin to having air blown at force directly into the vagina.

flooziesusie · 31/03/2009 15:25

Just to add another spanner in the works - air getting into the vagina by any means could be deadly. I have always been aware of it, by urban myth or not...

During the end of my last pregnancy, they only way I enjoyed sex was in the, ahem, all fours position. If my dh took his willy out too far, air would enter. Putting his willy back in resulted in very loud fanny farts and a very uncomfortable sensation! I happened to mention this to my midwife - and she urged me not to continue as it could be fatal. Air getting into the bloodstream is, as everyone knows deadly.

I think farts are generally okay, it's the forcing of air that might cause the problem - it's very rare but a very valid worry. Thanks for posting Wifeofgeek!
