I am just about to book mine. At the same clinic I had it done for dd in 2005.

But my sil told me she had her nuchal done at her 12 week booking scan. On the NHS.
She is in Bedford.

I will call my antenatel ward on monday to find out if our area is doing it on the NHS now.

Just wondered how many of you didn't have to pay.

We get nuchal scans here - I was in SE London for #1 and #2 and will be in North Kent for #3 and getting a nuchal scan at 12 weeks on the NHS

Geepers · 29/03/2009 10:41

We do here in Bournemouth.

EldonAve · 29/03/2009 10:42

Didn't have to pay in London. Also get the blood test free too now

Reallytired · 29/03/2009 10:49

I think the plan is that all nhs trusts plan to have nuchal scans. The problem is time it takes to train up all the radiolographers. I had a practice nuchal scan done on me, although I was not told the results, except that if it had been high then I would have been refered. I live in Hertfordshire. I had the practice nuchal scan because I was asked by the radiographer if she could practice when I had a dating scan.

I declined the blood test as there is no way I would have a termination for Downs.

In N.London.

Nuchal scans between 11-13 wks and anomaly scans at 20 wks are offered free to everyone here.

EyeballsintheSky · 29/03/2009 12:25

N.E Surrey and I got a nuchal scan at my 12 week scan and a 20 week anomaly scan.

Mintyy · 29/03/2009 12:28

I had mine on the NHS in 2000 and 2003 (SE London, Kings College Hospital).

JRocks · 29/03/2009 12:54

Mine was part of my dating scan at 11+ weeks. Although they didn't do this a few years ago when I had DS (that I know of). I'm in Cornwall.

princessmel · 29/03/2009 17:26

Thanks all, there seems to be quite a few of you who get it for free.

I am not convinced we do though. My friend (local) is pregnant , just a bit further ahead of me and I can't remember her saying that she had it for free.
She's on holiday so I can't ask her.

I did, didn't want it though.

midnightexpress · 29/03/2009 17:37

I'm in Glasgow, and we get only a 12 week scan, with no nuchal (or did when I was pg in 2005 and 2006 - may be different now).

jeee · 29/03/2009 17:40

East Kent - free, (first one was in 2001, and I'd never heard of it).

Marthasmama · 29/03/2009 17:41

Paid for one in 2003 and got a free one in 2008 - both in Medway, Kent.

Mercibeaucoup · 29/03/2009 17:44

Me, 2003 in north London. It was pretty much routine for older mums (I think) and was done at 12 weeks.

I wasn't offered one for dd in 2000 adn I was an older mum even then!

I had loads of scans with mine though.

Lionstar · 29/03/2009 17:56

N. Hants and we get free nuchal with 12 week scan (plus blood screening) and a 20 week anomaly scan

mosschops30 · 29/03/2009 17:56

You dont get it in Cardiff, private or nothing

Horton · 29/03/2009 17:59

I'm in SW London. We had a free nuchal at the same time as the 12 week scan (actually at about 14 weeks).

diedandgonetodevon · 29/03/2009 18:22

S. Devon and we have NHS nuchal scans

Pinkbump3 · 29/03/2009 18:31

All nhs patients in scotland get offered free nuchal and anomaly scans.

Pinkbump3 · 29/03/2009 18:33

It national health service thats what you pay your contributions for, if they offer them at your trust they cant charge you for them. Your friend must have gone private.

littlelamb · 29/03/2009 18:34

Devon have free scans at 12 weeks and 20 weeks, and have done for at least 5 years. I find it a bit shocking that not everyone is offered them, I completely took them for granted

Portoeufino · 29/03/2009 18:34

I did in SE Kent. It was 5 years ago though.

lljkk · 29/03/2009 18:38

Free in Norfolk if you're over 40.

nancy75 · 29/03/2009 18:49
