Morning all

ashleigh grr at the hospital woman it really annoys me when you can't get notice of these sorts of things. Some appreciation of the fact we have lives to organise would be nice.

I went for acupuncture last night and it seems to have helped with the nausea a little. things are easier today and I see a glimmer of my old self there
have my first mw appointment later - if I remember rightly though it's just a hello and take away all these forms to fill in. I'm going to mention the reassurance scan but am not holding out any hope tbh.

tattifer · 26/03/2009 10:33

scarlotti good luck at MWs.

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 26/03/2009 10:35

tat confusing and unreliable

Not sure what's going on with H, but something has changed. We will see.

How's you?

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 26/03/2009 10:36

More x-posts! Argh!

scarlotti good luck with the appointment. Lots of forms, yup Hope you get a sympathetic MW.

crunch feeling quite groovy today

I think being back at work is a good thing although colleagues were quick to notice the non stop nibbling (I've moved on to carrs water bicuits now - but they have to be the big ones.

scarlotti · 26/03/2009 11:52

crunch sorry to hear it's all still so up in the air. Although guess it's bound to be for a while.
Mw will be the same one as last time so hopefully will remember what happened. I can only ask.

tat I munch on grapes now, have a bag on my desk as we speak!

Wheelybug · 26/03/2009 11:59

Just a quickie - is there anyone who is about to sort out their hospital bag want some free bits ? I have just sorted through my hospital stuff and have loads of bits I didn't use as went straight to c-sec and I'll either chuck it or it'll sit in a cupboard for a couple of years until I chuck it so, thought I could post it on to one of you ladies.

It includes the following:

frankincense (unopened) - apparently good for inhaling during labour to calm you down
clary sage/ lavender mix - good apparently for helping contractions. I did open this one and use a bit of it
2 x packets of lucozade tablets
cooling water spray
empty spray bottle
vaseline lip salve
packet of soothers
packet of 'expert' feminie wipes

Everything bar the clary sage unused and unopened.

Obv would prefer to send it in a job lot and hopefully not someone too imminent in case it takes me a week or so to post it !

ladyhelen2 · 26/03/2009 12:07

Checking in and catching up with you all!
hobnob those first few weeks are the worst. Every twinge, visit to the toilet is chock full of nerves. Every symptom , or lackof, analysed. Its awful. But don't worry too much about the wavering MS. Mine didn't even kick in till 8 or 9 weeks and varied daily.

I've got an ante natal appointment at the hosptial this afternoon. Am glad to be having a check up as am worrying about my blood pressure. At 36 weeks with DS my BP started shooting up and I was in and out of hospital over the next 4 weeks, ending up with DS being induced (no bad thing as it turned out). But my ankles have been swelling over the past few days and my fingers have massively swollen up just this morning. I have the odd woozy moment too. I think these can all be normal pregnancy niggles anyway but I am feeling a little nervous. Probably not going to help with that initial BP reading! Anyway it has motivated me to pack an overnight bag just in case.

(Sausage like) fingers crossed it'll all be ok!

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 26/03/2009 12:15

Ooh Wheely are you sure? That would be really lovely. I can give you money for postage.

OP posts:
YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 26/03/2009 12:20

tat glad to hear you're feeling groovy, I might join you in that

Scarlotti hope your MW is helpful - I have grapes next to me too!

LAdyhelen hope your BP behaves. I'm amazed mine has been normal through all this (had quite a high BP at times with ds2). Fingers crossed it's all normal swelling.

Off to the dentist this afternoon with ds1. You wouldn't think it would be the 3 year old chipping his 11 year old brother's tooth, would you?

OP posts:
tattifer · 26/03/2009 12:29

crunch have fun at the dentist's.

You and scarlotti have inspired me to get some grapes to nibble. Peel me one anybody...?

daisyj · 26/03/2009 13:02

ashleigh - rude, rude, rude lady for you. What a crappy attitude. I don't get why the system is so different. When I went for scans at Lewisham they booked you in for a date for the next one as you were leaving. Maybe if their system were more efficient they might be able to get their appointments our (tossers!).

crunch - ours is a La Bassine pool. We got it from another MNer for about half price with all the kit, as she wasn't able to have a hb in the end. Hope the confusion clears up soon

ladyh - hi there. Hope all OK for you. Good idea to pack the bag - good luck with your appointment this afternoon.

Scarlotti - good news that the acupuncture helped . Good luck with your appointment later.

tat - It wouldn't have occurred to me to lie, until a lovely midwife got me in for an emergency scan at nine weeks after I had some phantom (as in I think I actually imagined it - don't ask!) spotting. I only realised she had done when I got there and they ushered me in really quickly and I saw what was written on the form. So I say go for it if you need to!

xx to all

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 26/03/2009 13:10

daisy I had a similar lovely MW with ds2 who (having been through it herself) suggested I lie. She gave me very specific symptoms to give (period type pains coming and going) and once I was there to say the pain had stopped. I've got a birth-pool-in-a-box, used one last time too. Very worried my cat is going to get hold of it

OP posts:
Tamlin · 26/03/2009 13:18

ashleigh, I'd be quite shameless about nagging her in future, and do point out to her that you're willing to complain about her poor attitude in writing. :O

I was just feeling very pleased with myself because I managed to cook my 17 mo old his favourite broccoli and cauliflower in cheese sauce, despite the smell of the veggies cooking making me retch all over the kitchen. Then I put him to bed and ate the rest of the cheese sauce with my FINGERS, and am now feeling sick again. Good grief.

hobnob57 · 26/03/2009 13:23

Thanks so much for your reassuring words. I worke up this morning feeling AOK for the first time in weeks and sat down to breakfast . I phoned the MW this morning to see what they thought and managed to dissolve on the phone. I'm just so convinced that I'm not pg any more, and the thought of delayed confirmation of this brought back all the old mmc emotions....

The MW was basically confirming what the EPU said - that without bleeding or pain then there's nothing that will be done to reassure me. She even said the GP is unlikely to offer me hcg blood tests. I snivelled.

She then rang back and said that she'd managed to persuade the EPU to slot me in for a scan tomorrow morning but that I'm not to advertise the fact (pretend I didn't say anything). I've got mixed emotions now - reassured that I'll find out what's going on but unprepared for the worst. And at 7+2, it's unlikely to be a conclusive scan is it? She said they may do an internal one.

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 26/03/2009 13:40

hobnob that is fantastic news. I'm so glad there are people out there who do not subscribe to the "computer says no" bureaucracy! Will have my fingers crossed for you all of tomorrow.

Tamlin offering sympathy for your MS.

OP posts:
YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 26/03/2009 13:41

hobnob and I meant to add, although no scan is conclusive, each postive scan is another hurdle passed. x

OP posts:
scarlotti · 26/03/2009 13:48

hobnob that's great news that you've got a scan date. You'll be surprised at what can be deduced at that stage so try and stay positive. At least you'll have a checkpoint and an opportunity to ask any questions.

Tamlin well done on the lunch! I was feeling much better today, had a sandwich for lunch then ate the shortbread cookie far too soon after. I'm now regretting it as feel sick and achy - although at least it's a different type of sicky to the last few weeks! Will it ever end?

ashleighbeee · 26/03/2009 14:36

Hi all, thanks for letting me vent.. I had a quick little sob sob to myself about it and now am back to well how dare she, i phoned midwife about it, she said she'll chase it up and she cant believe i havent had a letter yet.. I may just pester receptionist lady twice a day until i have one

Scarlotti have you been for your appointment? How did the scan request go?? Good i hope.

Hobnob you'll def be surprised, we saw our little bouncing bean at 7+4 and we saw heartbeat and right size right position etc... let us all know how it goes as soon as you get back tomorrow.. I'll be thinking of you and hope it all goes fabulously.

Tamlin I am having brocoli and cauliflower cheese tonight... I have something in common with your little one... should i be embarrassed to admit i share the same favourite meal as a 17 month old?? hmmm...

Youknownothing doing my nosy bit... where were you yesterday hay?!!? Whats going on with DH?? things looking up? I hope so..

36 weeks lady helen, wow you're getting to the end.. how are you feeling??

tattifer I hope they dont keep you waiting for scan.. you will have to 'bend the truth'.. I was thinking about your situation over lunch, like mine when i was 8 weeks and bleeding, strange how we both opted for private scans and we're both being a little bit messed around for our NHS ones.. hmmmf.. we must smell of private clinics...

daisyJ when are you due? So fabulous what other mumsnetters do etc.. what a bargain getting it through here!

I think i spend too much time on here..

xx

Wheelybug · 26/03/2009 16:25

No probs crunch - am sure it won't cost much to post so don't worry. Do you have CAT or would you like me to CAT you to get your address ?

ladyhelen - good luck wiht the BP check. I had similar, had had bp issues with dd1 and it threatened to do similar with dd2 but actually never quite got to problem levels (bizarrely, I always measured higher in the comfort of my own home and as soon as I was sent into hospital it went odwn again. I had my lowest BP reading for hte whole pregnancy waiting to go in for my c-sec when I was probably at my most stressed although maybe subconsciously I was relieved it was all soon going to be over !!)

Good luck with teh scan hobnob

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 26/03/2009 16:39

Wheely Don't have CAT, if you could CAT me that would be great. Are you sure? It's really kind of you. If it costs more than you expect then I am happy to cover it. I used SO much Clary Sage in my last labour

ashleigh Weeeeell, it's complicated He is going to "sort of" move back in for a trial. Practicalities are the driving force, but I am ready to throw him out the door at the first sign of anything

We have been talking a lot and he seems to be listening and understanding and taking responsibility for what he has done. I really hope this doesn't turn out to be him just messing with my head.

My plan is to give it a week and see how it goes. Hopefully a month of the single life will have changed him.

I'm probably being a big eejut, but I have to try. He actually seems like the old him at the moment and I really want that.

{Cautiously optimistic emoticon]

Tell me I'm a fool.

OP posts:
cornflakegirl · 26/03/2009 17:10

Crunch - that's great news! I really hope it works out for you!

Hobnob - good luck for the scan. It's a shame you had to beg for it, but thank goodness for sympathetic midwives

scarlotti · 26/03/2009 17:36

crunch that's a great positive step and I really hope it works out for you, keeping it all crossed. [hugs]

Have been to see the mw - all a bit of a shambles, one was off so another covering. Ended up doing the booking in appointment even though I'm a little early for that as later than normal for the hello. Have to have bloods done at docs as the courier had already left!
No scan. Not a chance. Apparently here you have to have had 3 m/c's before you get any kind of reassurance scan.
So now we decide whether to pay or wait for 12 weeks. Am 7+6 so quite a long wait.

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 26/03/2009 17:41

cornflake thanks - I'm not completely stupid then?

scarlotti I really hope so It is a long wait. Ridiculous postcode lottery. Wish I could give them all a good shake for you

OP posts:
scarlotti · 26/03/2009 17:49

crunch if you didn't give it a go you'd always be left wondering what if. This way, whatever the outcome, you can be sure you tried everything. Let's hope the old him is back to stay
