Tatiffer fwiw my first scan this time was at 7+2 and we saw a hb. I was fully expecting a thingymabob one (), so much so that I even went for a precautionary wax to avoid scaring my consultant, but it was abdominal. How about going for the middle ground and waiting til next monday? Btw was surprised to read earlier that your MIL had blabbed to her ex-wife . Then realised I am a bit thick

Loving the canesten line Crunch, but am not talking to you after the monkey nipples pic you posted made me choke on my lunch

Can I join the queue for wise opinoins? I am thinking of doing what I swore I never would and hiring a doppler.... But hear me out! I only want it for when we are away on holiday, we go when I should be 22 weeks for 10 nights. If I'm feeling regular movements by then I shouldn't need it, but having failed to get through a week in devon last week without rushing off to the docs for a listen, I'm worried what 10 days in Turkey would do to me. Obviously the absolute worst thing would be trying to find it out there and not being able to, but I've heard it with a doppler 3 times so far, at 11.5, 13.5 and 16.5 and so far it's always been easy to find... famous last words..... So. What do you think? I think I've felt the first flutterings of movements a few times already, so hopefully by 22 weeks it should be a lot more obvious... Hmmmm.... tricky!

Maybe I should just hire a crystal ball for all of us to have a go with?

HerNameWasLola · 24/03/2009 21:51

PS Good luck tomorrow Tamlin. I hope your GP doesn't make you beg. I know what you mean about feeling it's tempting fate to lie. Makes me so that we have to resort to that after everything we've all been through already

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 25/03/2009 08:14

Tamlin good luck today

Oh dear, I definitely lower the tone around here

Lola I got a doppler and it really helped me calm down. I do think it depends on how liable to panic you are (and how good your baby is at lying in the right position ). I was so relieved when I first used it that I was able to find the HB straight away - and very glad that when I tried a week later and it took me half an hour to find it I remained calm and patient.

I usually found it very easy to find. It is, I'm afraid, up to you But I'm very glad I got mine and it really helped reassure me before the kicking really got going.

OP posts:
grinningbee · 25/03/2009 08:58

Nothing wrong with lowering the tone

Tis really grotty weather here today. Where's the sunshine gone! The sky is black!!

Tattifer Scans - I had my first with this pg at 7 + 1 and saw a little tiny kidney bean with a heartbeat. It was done normally and not with the "magic wand"

DH has been asked 3 times so far this morning if nipper is here. Do people really think we won't tell them

HerNameWasLola · 25/03/2009 11:05

Bee tis cold as well as grotty... Have had to unearth a jumper (that doesn't really fit) to keep my expanding waistline warm...

Speaking of clothes (tenuous link?!? ) I've just ordered these white jeans from JJMMBB and they're fab! £29. I do like white jeans in the summer - don't know if any of you get that or if I'm just a bit odd But in case you do I thought I'd share so you can have them too! Has anyone found anywhere selling nice maternity skirts, the sort of thing you'd wear during the day on holiday or here if we actually get a summer this year? () but nothing too short please, I have very ugly knees!

ANYWAY...

Crunch thanks for the doppler advice. Where did you get yours from? I think I'm going to wait and see how much movement I'm feeling before we go away (fingers crossed...) and then rent one at the last minute when if I'm desperate!

Tamlin will be thinking of you today. Let us know how it goes xx

PS What's the point in having a tone anyway, if not to lower it?

lal123 · 25/03/2009 11:13

morning all. Just getting caught up - these threads move so fast!!!

Lola - those jeans look great. I'm only 9 weeks - but my jeans are already starting to be uncomfortable. Big question - when is it acceptable to knicker checkers to start looking at maternity clothes??

scarlotti · 25/03/2009 11:49

Morning all

tattifer how far gone will you be on Friday? I know the best advice would probably be to wait but I know I'd struggle to not go if I already had an appointment booked. We were lucky in that they did a tummy scan on me and we saw a hb - I was 6+3. I know it can vary quite a lot though so I don't think it's cause for concern.

lola I didn't realise you could hire them!! I'd be tempted to take one away with you just in case you have a major panic. Not sure how good your Turkish is and whether it would stretch to 'over zealous knicker checking has meant I need to be scanned now!'

lal123 I have already succumbed to maternity trousers for the weekend and I'm only 7+5 today Body obviously remembers exactly what it's supposed to do fat store wise and is being annoyingly efficient at it. Saw a pair in new look that were on sale so bought them - I have to say it's nice to have a comfortable pair, that still fits me around the bum and legs. My fat trousers are a whole size bigger all over and so make me feel like nora batty!

ashleighbeee · 25/03/2009 11:56

Good morning my fellow knicker checkers! Lal this thread is SO fast moving, i leave work on a evening and then when i get a chance the next day to have a peak i have a lots to read.. Well around 12/14 weeks i was bursting out of trousers, now have belly band thing on work trousers which is good but starting to think i actually need some proper trousers... soon.. have remained small on top so i am okay in that respect but my little bump isnt giving up on bursting through...

Tamlin Good luck today... if you just say you're REALLY unsure of your dates and mind is all over the place etc you might get in early.. If you know you're 8 weeks for sure then you know what you should see at scan so if they say 'you can't be 11 weeks' you'll sneakily know already that you cant be, tee hee.. but up to you.. i would say private scan, but as you're having private nuchal it would be v.expensive..

Lola I am also in the big Doppler debate - I have decided against for now, as when i went to the midwife she had a teeeny bit of difficulty getting the right position and i KNOW if i couldnt find his little hearbeat i'd be demanding a scan... After 6 of the things you think i'd be a little teeny bit more reassured... My friend, who has had 2 miscarriages and has just had a beautiful baby girl, hired one and used it every day until the baby was here. She said that if she couldnt find HB then she'd just check again in 30 mins, i wouldnt have that patience, thats just me.. even though i would LOVE to hear his little heartbeat every singe day.. Jeans are LOVELY! I have big bottom but LOVE white jeans :D I may have to "invest" (due to the process of us buying a house, i have to relay everything i want to buy in terms of 'investment' otherwise DP thinks i am 'wasting money'...)

grinningbee when's your due date? When my sis was due she had a voicemail saying 'nothing has happened yet, if thats what you're phoning for hang up now' haha! She was 4 days overdue.. her recommendation to me was to tell everyone your due date is actually a week after than it is!

Hello to everyone else, will check back later to see how you 'gals' are xx

grinningbee · 25/03/2009 12:10

I wish I'd thought of telling everyone it was later ashleigh. It's tomorrow!

Tamlin · 25/03/2009 12:35

No scan. The GP did seem sympathetic, he said that he used to be able to refer women for 'reassurance' scans after a history of miscarriage but apparently the local trust has changed the guidelines so there must be 'excessive bleeding or pain'. I just don't understand it - I don't want an EXTRA scan on the NHS, I just want it at 10 weeks and not 12 when it'll be no good to me at all.

He did at least look at my obstetric history and ask if the hyperemesis was reoccuring (if it was, I'd be on an IV by now), if I anticipated needing physio for another bout of SPD thanks to my hypermobility (yes), and if the Fenton's repair I had to have 10 months after my first baby thanks to the NHS consultant botching my episiotomy was 'a cause of concern' (oh my God, yes.) Left wondering why I'd been so crazy to get pregnant again, hadn't really stopped to think about the fact that my body is crap at the whole pregnancy-and-childbirth malarkey...

scarlotti · 25/03/2009 12:42

bee tomorrow?! How exciting!! Didn't realise you were due so soon

Tamlin we got told the same thing. My gp sent a request for an early scan through and I got back a date for my 12 week scan. I phoned to try and change it but she said they don't like to do it before and only a mw could change the date
Do you think it might be worth trying your mw route?

Has anyone else found that fizzy drinks seem to help with nausea - I think it's the burping! Not sure my office colleagues are as impressed though

HerNameWasLola · 25/03/2009 12:58

Lal you're right, that is a big question! I think really you have to let your body dictate what you need to do, and take it from there. This time I wore my 'relatively-thin-person' jeans for the last time at 8 weeks, then moved into my 'getting fatter' jeans. I was in my proper fat person jeans at 10 weeks (and thoroughly miserable, horrid horrid things) and I bought mat jeans and wore them straight away at 12 weeks. I moved into my fat bird suit for work at about 9 weeks I think then into my mat suit at 13 weeks. I suppose that's one 'advantage' of having had 2 mc's, it's given me clothes in a range of sizes... I've definitely got bigger sooner this time than last time though (mc at 17.5). Because we knew things were looking pretty bleak from 12.5 onwards last time I wouldn't let myself by mat jeans and stayed in my New Look fat bird jeans. God it was miserable. HATED the bloody things by the end and this time round took them to a charity shop at about 12.5 weeks! So I think that's partly why, this time, I'm determined to have some nice things, another way of marking the differences between this pg and the last one

Scarlotti PMSL! My Turkish definitely isn't up to that! But we know the guy who owns the place where we stay pretty well and I'm sure he'd take me to the doc's if necessary. I'd really rather avoid it though! It's just so hard to know what to do for the best isn't it?

Ashleigh at staying small on top - I've gone from struggling to fill an A cup to a D CUP ALREADY!!! And something tells me they're not finished yet... Am going to go to La Senza for some bra extenders, atm I seem to be needing a new bra about every 2 weeks and it's getting expensive! LOL at "investments" btw, I've been "investing" quite a bit with JJMMBB and the Next directory lately (a few surprisingly nice bits, am not normally a big fan) Sounds like high time you did some "investing" too! Love your sister's answer machine message btw, will try to remember that should I ever be in that position! Can't really imagine it though! Ah well, time will tell

GB you still here??

HerNameWasLola · 25/03/2009 13:04

Tamlin cross posts Bastartds. You just used one of my least favourite phrases in the whole of the english language btw - "botched episiotomy" shock] Hope you're doing ok, not too frustrated. Sorry that sounds so lame

ashleighbeee · 25/03/2009 14:11

Tamlin you're kidding what difference does 2 stinking weeks make - they didnt give me appointment at 14 weeks 6 days for my first scan - so its okay when they cant fit us in but not the other way around!!!! It really infuriates me - I havent had a date through for my 20 week scan yet so my DP probably cant come because he has to give a months notice for time off!!! URGH! Ask your midwife if she can change it for you when you see her... I hope you get to see little one before then....

lola Well I have gone from a B to a C cup.. OOEEER! haha! still in all my size 10s which is lucky.. although they're starting to creep up as a bit short now.. deffo time to "invest" i think - maybe its the apprehension thats stopping me... buying the clothes makes me admit I am pregnant.. Next might be my first stop as can wander through the non maternity into the maternity without it being too full on - dont usually shop in Next but I hear they're good for mat wear... Lola, I think you should see about some shares in La Senza!! I didnt realise that you were so far gone when you m/c last time (i have a bad memory so probably did but didnt take it in properly), I think it will be really lovely when we're sat here in our last week (hopefully not at work though) moaning about our fat ankles and people asking if baby is here yet.. I have 21 weeks and 6 days to go.. (thats my positivity for the day)

Tattifer have you decided on your scan yet?

xx

grinningbee · 25/03/2009 14:26

I'm going to make a point of waiting until you're all ready to pop and then keep asking if the baby is here yet...

Especially Lola

HerNameWasLola · 25/03/2009 16:25

Grinningbee (and a bit - but not much! )

Ashleigh no worries about not remembering. Know what you mean about the apprehension stopping you. This is the first pg I've allowed myself to relax and enjoy at all, but the brakes are firmly back on now, shopping wise anyway, am starting to think I could open a shop! Bras are m&s basic ones btw, so no need for la senza shares at least, but I hear they do decent bra extenders...The Next stores near us don't have mat sections so I've been using the directory, I can't believe how quick they are with delievry! Haven't got that much from them, though do have this top and trousers combo and also ordered the trousers in black as well as they're a really good fit and really comfy Shopaholic? moi?!?

daisyj · 25/03/2009 19:32

lola - I love my doppler - Angel Sounds £25 from Amazon. If you've already had no trouble hearing hb from early on then I say go for it. I actually used it the other day for the first time in about 3 months. Bo moves so much usually that I haven't needed to at all, but I had hours of nothing on Saturday. Hb was so loud now he's fully cooked - I got a bit of a (nice) shock!

DH just had a practise at putting up the birthing pool - am typing this in the kitchen sitting right next to it, hoping its presence will bring on labour...

hobnob57 · 25/03/2009 20:15

Hi ladies,

I've been utterly crap and not kept up with you since getting too tired to read more than one thread a night , but I need your help tonight.

I'm now 7+1 weeks, after having had a mmc in Dec at 9 weeks that measured 7+4. Morning sickness kicked in the monday before last, working up to an awful climax at the weekend. However since then it has waned, dramatically in the past couple of days, to the point where tonight I'm feeling pretty human.

I phoned the EPU for some reassurance and they basically don't want to know unless there's pain or bleeding. Since coming off the phone I've started feeling the kind of weird sensations around my uterus that I associate with my mmc - almost fluttery rather than full and stretchy like it should be.

I'm pretty convinced it's over for me again - any positive stories to cheer me up?

tattifer · 25/03/2009 20:27

Hi Guys! Yes, I've cancelled Friday (as per consultant's advice) and am now waiting for new appointment. If I haven't heard by Monday I am going to ring up doc's and say I've started bleeding again. I hope to wotsit that that isn't the case but I am prepared to lie. Got all militant this evening and decided that just because I was lucky enough to afford to pay for a private scan doesn't let them off the hook as their obligations to me as a patient go. Humph!

hobnob take note of what my consultant said when I was enthusing about feeling really sick etc etc being good signs - "mmh, hormones can be false prophets..." So try not to read anything into anything

scarlotti · 25/03/2009 22:00

hobnob I've been having fluttery feelings - to the point where I wondered if it was the baby moving! I'm 7+5 so right near you. My nausea seems to be easing a little too, although I suspect it's just nature giving us a break.

Nausea going means nothing. Hang tight and try and keep busy so your brain doesn't run away with you. Your bean is fine

Off to bed now, night all!

ashleighbeee · 26/03/2009 09:44

Hi guys, hope you're all okay this morning - hobnob my symptoms were really strong from 4 weeks to 7 weeks and then they just stopped for a week and came back at 8 weeks.. It was really strange and coincided with brown discharge so i was adamant that we were miscarrying again.. we're fine and still hanging on at 18 weeks and 2 days.

tattifer I am pleased you made a decision - I hope that they get you a scan date through quickly so you get to see your little one soon.

Lola I think if i relay your 'investing' to my partner, he may take the view that a couple of pairs of trousers and a few floral tops as a very small investment...

I am really really annoyed this morning - okay i know i am only 18 weeks pregnant and i have til 22 weeks to get my anomoly scan in BUT when i phoned the ultrasound dept this morning to find out if i had an appointment yet the lady (pah) said 'you phoned last week and i told you that you didnt have an appointment yet, this is still the same position, perhaps if people didnt phone so often we could get the appointments out' my my!!!!! If we dont have appointment through by next wednesday my partner wont be able to come to our next scan Is it really REALLY unreasonable to ask for 2-4 weeks notice on a effing scan appointment!!!!!????

Anyway, vent over.. off to work i go.. speak to you all later..

ummmmm grinningbee are you still with us, is anything happening?? ;) xx

tattifer · 26/03/2009 09:52

asb vent as much as you wish! I was just doing some venting myself ref the attitude of the lady-on-the-phone at at the epu.

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 26/03/2009 10:10

hobnob morning sickness can do that without it being anything at all. The reason you get it is your body adjusting to the new hormones, and we all adjust at different rates and have different waves of it at different times. I know it's very difficult not to worry.

tattifer quite right to! Don't let them get away with it!

Lola I bought a cheap one - a bit like the angelsounds one, but with a monitor showing HB speed as well (too worried the DSs would break a hired one!)

Ooh Daisy are you having a home water birth like me? What type of birth pool have you got?

Bee any news?

I see in my absence conversation got all grown up and sensible

Tamlin it is stupid isn't it. I was lucky I suppose insofar as my PCOS and subfertility meant there was no AF to go by, so I got a scan as soon as one became available. Even luckier that I was just over 8 weeks at this point as that meant hurdles had been passed without me even knowing about them

None of the postcode lottery makes sense to me and I am more than willing to shamelessly lie to get what I want But that I have had to! I lost a baby at nearly 14 weeks and having had a "dating scan" at 8 weeks they then wanted to leave me until 20 weeks for any more.

ashleigh no need for her to be so bloody rude! It's not your fault that their system collapsed. You do actually have a life of your own which the scan needs to fit into. on your behalf at stupid insensitive woman.

I hope you get your scan soon (I bet she's finding it and posting it now to "get you off her back" )
