scarlotti · 21/04/2009 15:11

Tamlin re the primrose capsules ... really??!? Not sure if I want to store that nugget of info for later..!

crunch indeed, your observations are true. Who knows, maybe I'm carrying the head of the climate change reversal movement (or something equally as important!!).
Hope you're not stuck ohmm-ing as you can't now get up off the floor

Tamlin · 21/04/2009 15:27

Yep, apparently it acts like a prostaglandin.

Just don't try castor oil - it's not actually safe for the baby, and it's also rather unpleasant for you!

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 21/04/2009 15:30

Scarlotti help! 'm stuck

Tam I'd heard of ingesting evening primrose, but not inserting! DS2 was 10 days over too (and I was practically snorting Clary Sage by then, luckily I love the smell). So I know that she'll only make an appearance when she feels like it, but that doesn't mean I can't pretend to have some say in it

OP posts:
scarlotti · 21/04/2009 16:08

Castor oil .... are we still talking about using this internally?!?!?

Never heard of Clary Sage either, sigh, I have so much to learn. However did I manage to get the last two out!

Just been reading up on Doula's - anyone got any first hand experience of them? Are they worth it do you think?

Tamlin · 21/04/2009 17:09

I don't have any experience with doulas, Scarlotti, I just want another line of defence against our local trust's habit of understaffing maternity units... I figure I'll meet up with one or two and just see if we click. Suspect I'm a bit picky and for all the wrong reasons - I've already ruled out two of the local doulas who can't spell 'episiotomy' right on their sites and one who can't get her apostrophes right to save her life. Why wouldn't you PROOFREAD a professional website?!

And no, you drink the castor oil (or actually, don't, it's not nice).

scarlotti · 21/04/2009 17:48

tamlin

I'd be the same as you with the doula's I'm afraid. Heck, if you can't spell episiotomy and that's part of your day job ....? Maybe we're just literacy snobs though..?

Gentle · 21/04/2009 19:08

I am glad we all dissect our chocolate bars. My favourite is a Dime bar, you can crack all the chocolate off and then chomp the toffee bit (and then go to the dentist and spend at least £50).

Crunch I appreciate that there are reasons why you can?t try sex to bring on the baby. Had you thought about a nice Ripple instead?!?! Might not be very ?zen? though. I love your philosophical, watch-what-happens approach right now. I must remind myself of it when (when, not if!) I?m near the end of this pregnancy.

Joolsiam Hello from me to you, don?t worry it takes ages to get to know everyone here!

Scotlass Nathan sounds like a lovely little fella. Thanks for reminding me about the health in pregnancy grant, too, I?m nearly 25 weeks now so can ask for mine J

Tamlin I know that feeling, and of course you?re not a pessimist. You?ve just had an experience that you wouldn?t wish on anyone else and it?s natural to feel a bit jittery when others announce pregnancies early with such confidence.

Scarlotti I?ve thought about a doula too. Always said I?d have a professional midwife next time around but have no £££s for this ? a good doula would be helpful as an advocate in hospital (I can be a bit of a pushover when I?m feeling vulnerable) and perhaps she would do some housework in the first couple of weeks!

SydneySuze you might be in Espana by now? Blubbing at work is fun. We have a document circulating at the moment entitled ?Every Child Is Special.? I have to read it by the end of the month but so far I can?t get past the title!

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 22/04/2009 08:34

Glad to hear I'm not the only pedant on this thread (apostrophes being my personal bugbear)

Gentle my biggest fear is being given a Ferrero Rocher at an actual posh do, because I would have to bite off all the outside chocolate, split the two wafer bits, eat the nut, lick out the nutella-type-stuff and then munch the wafers last. I can't eat them any other way Not a pretty sight.

Well I'm still here (not surprising since due date isn't actually until Saturday) and still sane (a little more surprising).

Hope everyone's ok and things are progressing as they should. Enjoy the sunshine ladies.

OP posts:
scarlotti · 22/04/2009 08:46

crunch amaz'ing how some of us' get r'iled at proper gramm'er
On a more proper note though, does that make us snobs in some way? I too get annoyed if things aren't correctly articulated, and the latest craze in schools for children to submit homework in text speak drives me insane. Don't their parents care?! I wonder if there is a hidden movement of literary pioneers amongst our generation..?

I have a lovely day off today, all to myself!! Everyone has now left for work, school and nursery and I have the very rare luxury of the house to myself. Am determined to try and spend at least some of it relaxing and on 'me time' however I can already feel the chores calling!!
Any more martyrs out there...? Sigh.

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 22/04/2009 09:00

Scarlotti enjoy your day off - and Happy Birthday (phew! Pregnancy brain let me remember just in time!)

No chores! They're banned. Lots of chocolate and leg wax and stuff like that - although don't mix them up

Right I am off to enjoy the sunshine, I might even make it down to the beach if I'm feeling up to it.

x

Morning all

I couldn't eat chocolate slowly - I just inhale it

Spotting today reddy brown and stringy - looks like the end at 5+3 - better than waiting till 11+5 like last time I suppose

ashleighbeee · 22/04/2009 09:39

Good morning all,

Firstly good morning Joolsiam please do not start thinking of this as the end, you're probably about to hear lots of reassuring stories from the ladies on this thread who have not only suffered miscarriage they have also experienced bleeding/spotting during the early days and are still having a healthy pregnancy... I am one of those people, I had spotting/discharge for almost 2 weeks and at the end experienced a red gush - I was adamant it was the end, certain in fact, I could not tell the difference between my m/c and this time round, I am now 22 weeks with a little baby who likes to kick and move around a lot. I know that its so difficult to take a positive view on things but please try and remain positive.

Secondly CONGRATULATIONS SCOTLAS I am over the moon for you I hope you're settling in at home amazingly.

Crunch Oooh I am SO pleased i havent missed anything.. have been so busy but have been keeping an eye on you and your little Trocodile Princess.. BEACH what beach.. so whilst I am sitting at my desk staring in to space you'll be watching the lovely sparkling sea in the lovely sunshine.. hmmf.. no no, me jealous, never

Gentle you're almost 25 weeks.. Time flies by so much, I am thinking back to when you first joined and how positive you sound now.. I am pleased you're feeling better and more reassured, I am the same, I think each day makes it easier when you have little feet inside you reassuring you that they're still there.

Scarloti your day also sounds like heaven! relaxing and doing nothing sounds amazing to me!

We're off to stay at DPs mum's tomorrow.. the dreaded time has come.. hopefully not for to long, however we are 4 1/2 weeks into the buying process and not one single step further to getting a moving date. siiiigh.. On that note I am off to chase solicitors/accountant/mortgage adviser!

Oh and ladies, I will try to watch my grammar and spelling.. I wouldn't want to upset pregnant ladies afterall

Hope its lovely and sunny where ever you all are xx to all!

scarlotti · 22/04/2009 09:41

Joolsiam am keeing everything crossed for you and sending you sticky vibes. Sorry to hear you're going through this.

crunch beach sounds like a wonderful idea, hope you have sand - we're pebbles here and it just isn't the same.
Thanks for the birthday wishes. Am off out now to mooch around town with my gift vouchers (and with no kids!!! How decadent is that!!)

ashleighbeee · 22/04/2009 09:55

Happy Birthday Scarlotti enjoy your shopping!! x

Tamlin · 22/04/2009 11:59

Joolsiam, I've been having reddy-brown and stringy spotting since nine weeks. I've STILL got it, in fact. Sometimes it means disaster, and sometimes it seems to mean that your body is a practical joker. I really hope that it's the latter for you...

herbaceous · 22/04/2009 15:52

Hello girls

Jools - keep the faith. I know it's sometimes easier to assume it's all over, and prepare yourself for the worst, but it doesn't really work. There's always hope!

Just back from my 30-week MW appointment, for which I had to wait AN HOUR AND A HALF after my appointment time. Grrrrr. Then she rushed me through, even though I had loads of questions. Cromwell 'good and wide', she said, which made my lady's area clench in fear.

And I'm with you on grammar. I even have to spell and punctuate my text messages properly, and take a dim view of those who don't. But then I have been an editor for god knows how long. As was my mother. Estate agents and menu writers tremble as we approach.

Joolsiam · 22/04/2009 16:05

Thanks for the positive stories

Well, maybe tmi, but one "wipe" this morning showed a little bit of red but mainly brown, slightly stringy stuff. It tailed off, then I had a bit more brown gunk after lunch.

Don't know what to think really - still feeling a bit sick, but not sure if that is worry or pregnancy nausea. Boobs still tender. My local EPU is GP referral anyway and apparently won't see you prior to 6 weeks. Same story with the private place local to me, so I guess all I can do is wait and hope ...

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 22/04/2009 18:12

Jools I have my fingers crossed for you. Hope you're ok. It might be an idea to see your GP anyway (if you haven't) they might be able to suggest something. How long before you're 6 weeks?

Fellow pedants Last time I was pregnant I wrote a firm letter to my local cafe who had the sign, "Toilets for patron's only" in the window, demanding to know which patron and which belonging or part of them was permitted to use the toilet. I blame hormones, but how could you use the plural 's' both correctly and incorrectly in the same sentence?!

Oh dear, losing my zen-like calm now herb I also punctuate my texts and judge others who do not - it's a sickness

ashleigh it was soooooo beautiful, not a cloud in the sky, sea sparkling, waves lapping, ds2 wiping sandy hands on my back...

scarlotti we have sandy beaches but the North Sea so nice for a walk and a sandcastle but not so good for swimming (what with the inevitable hypothermia and death). Ah well, you can't have it all.

Hope you're having a lovely relaxing Birthday and your day has gone according to plan

cece · 22/04/2009 18:18

hello waves t everyone.

Saw this is active convos and thought I would pop in and say hello

Keep meaning to catch up with this thread but very busy here. Have I missed much?

Well I am 36 weeks now and thinking of packing my labour bag at the weekend - still can't quite believe it...

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 22/04/2009 18:40

Cece hello. I should probably pack a bag too (having a home birth but should really be prepared what with being due Saturday )

You missed Scotlass popping! Very exciting (and early ) and sounds like the perfect birth (even more )

OP posts:
cece · 22/04/2009 20:43

ohhh what did she have? Names etc??? and you are due on Sat where has the time gone!

scotlass · 22/04/2009 22:27

Just wanted to say Happy birthday scarlotti and check if crunchies troc princess oops trocodile princess has graced us with her presence.

cece 36wks - hurrah, that seems to have gone quickly but I'm sure has felt an eternity to you.

I had a beautiful bouncing baby boy - Nathan James, 8lb 3oz. he made a bit of a rush entry into the world and nearly caught me out, I nearly had an unplanned home delivery or garden delivery as I managed to walk with my legs crossed to the car, got to the hospital which thankfully is 15mins away (took 7 mins at 100 miles/hr) and delivered 11 mins later. Am absolutely loving every minute of him, he's a laid back wee dude.

Hello to everyone else

jools hope you get seen and some reassurance, I too had spotting and even a bright red fresh bleed with this pg so all is def not lost, it's always worth getting checked over anyway and pushing to be taken seriously if you want to know early.

Joolsiam · 23/04/2009 07:15

Ooh, lots of happy birthday's and good labour vibes

I am going to see the GP today - woke up to one large smooth clot (part of lining ?) and now dull red blood but no more clots. Abdomen feels like I am having AF rather than stretching pains, so am not hopeful. I can't really go by PG symptoms as I didn't really have any apart from mild nausea and mildly sore boobs

I really have a phobia of seeing GP's as I always feel fobbed off I don't suppose they will do anything or say much but at least a second MC will be on record. It is actually my third MC if you count a CP back in July, but they don't seem interested in that one - need to push for investigations as I'm 40 this year so don't have much time to start a family ....

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 23/04/2009 08:46

Jools is there someone you could take with you to make sure you don't get fobbed off? It's so hard to speak out when you feel vulnerable. I will have my fingers crossed for you today.

Scotlass so glad you're enjoying Nathan so much - still nothing here, but not going too crazy

cece I know how can 9 months be both an eternity and fly by in a flash?

OP posts:
ashleighbeee · 23/04/2009 09:00

Hi Jools is there anyone that you can take with you? Before coming on Knickercheckers I saw you'd posted a new thread regarding self referring EPUs, just wanted to confirm that Watford is not self referring - Hemel have a very small EPU and I know that most Hemelers are referred to Watford so it is not that busy - I am not sure if they take self referrals but I do have the ultrasound dept number if you would like it? Thinking of you this morning, I am remaining positive for you and keeping everything crossed for you and hoping your GP is helpful.

Scotlass it sounds like bliss with your little Nathan.. Thanks for the updates, its lovely to hear you're all settling in nicely.

Crunchie Sounds like you had a lovely day out . I am pleased that someone is making the most out of this weather! I am waiting patiently for your birthing story, I know that it'll be any day now.

Good morning to all... nothing to report here really, I have been looking at nursery interiors though! How does anyone ever decide what to go with? I know I still have a few weeks to decide yet, we dont actually have a house/moving in date yet.. but it is still lovely to day dream
