Just popping in to wish the imminent ones - Scotlass and Crunch and Ladyhelen lots of luck and labour vibes. Really not long now - v. exciting !!

dan - hope the day is going well and that you're having a chance to either get lots done or enjoy yourself.

Agree with regards the early days... When I had dd1 a friend of mine said 'everyone will tell you to enjoy the first weeks but you won't but it doesn't last long'. That's what I'm holding on to this time. Am knackered and still have sore nipples.

Really looking forward to hearing all the birth announcements.

dan39 · 17/04/2009 17:25

I dunno if I have enjoyed it!! She will be back in 45 mins, I am anxious as to how she has been - I had a great back massage; took car to garage; repotted plants til I ran out of compost; read in bed (but didn't sleep as she only got up at 2 last night ) and expressed twice! Started to run a bath but decided it wasn't a priority activity so abandoned it for a shower. Shaved under arms but not legs....

Keep seeing her little face, both the smiling and the devil child versions, in my mind!Has she missed me? Has she noticed? Which will I mind more??

tsom · 17/04/2009 18:01

Oh yes - postnatal hairy legs, I didn't get round to shaving mine for most of the first yr after both ds's and therefore bought a philips ladyshave on tuesday thinking that it would be quicker - it's still in the box as haven't managed to unpack it and charge it yet

less absorbed with ds3? - probably less anxious and less time for gazing, esp during school hols. Ended up with blocked ducts past few days so have had to slow down and loll around at home bf again which is fair enough

Joolsiam · 18/04/2009 13:17

Hi everyone

Thanks for the welcomes earlier this week

Have been reading since then - lots of exciting and good news but taking a back seat and trying to ignore my BFP for a while. Today however, DP wanted to actually see a test, so I did another one - baaad idea and I'm having a major wobble now.

Any ideas on those Clearblue Digi tests with the Conception Indicator ?

Have just done another one and it STILL says Pregnant 1 - 2

BD CD 13
OV CD14
Implantation bleed CD24 (10DPO)
AF was due CD28 (14 DPO)
BFP CD30 - Pregnant 1 - 2
Now CD35 - STILL Pregnant 1 - 2 when I should be 5 weeks tomorrow

Should I be worried that HCG levels are not rising quickly enough or am I (hopefully) being paraniod ?

This is really messing with my head I think I have developed mild low level nausea over the past couple of days and I think my boobs are slowly starting to get tender, but no other symptoms so I just don't know if this pregnancy is doomed aswell

Trying to stay positive - will try another Clearblue before I see the GP on Tues

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 18/04/2009 14:30

Hi Jools I really wouldn't worry about what the conception indicator says - it could easily be out by a week or so (1-2 means 3-4 weeks preg, so it should be reading 2-3, but there's got to be a margin for error as it's just a home test).

I think the more information these things give, the more chance they have to terrify us!

Please don't let it worry you - when you think that conception could have happened later than ovulation (IYSWIM) and factor in other fluctuations (amount of HCG in urine at dif times of the day) then it's not at all surprising that it still shows the same result.

It's only been 5 days since your last test.

Hope that ramble helped

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 18/04/2009 14:36

dan I think you've done better than me - I think I spent my whole first day of freedom just worrying and failing to achieve anything

DS1 and DS2 are planning on driving me insane today - who would think a three year old and an 11 year old could find so much to bicker about

H tried to suggest that it was a developmental stage, but it's clearly a reaction to tension in the house. They normally get on so well

I think this baby is going to stay put and never make an appearance - and I don't blame it.

sydneysuze · 18/04/2009 17:43

Hi favourite virtual ladies ? is everyone having a good Saturday? I have emerged from what feels like 3 days of sleep and I look like a (very large) mole . Guess it must be the release of tension, had not realised quite how wound up I was about that last scan ? I was dreading a repeat of those most dreadful of words ?incompatible with life?......

Thanks again sooooo much for all your lovely words of support, it really does mean so much. Think DH was a bit nonplussed when after it was all over he asked if I wanted to stay in London, have a nice meal or something to celebrate and I said ?mmmm, great idea but can?t be back too late as I have to update the other Knicker Checkers that everything?s OK?. .

Gentle you are absolutely right about the baby keeping something to his/herself! That really made me lol, thanks also for reminding me that every pg is different ? was repeating that to myself like a mantra as we waited for 3 hours to be seen at the hospital. And Scarlotti ?odds schmods? was such a brilliant way of putting how we all react to stats after mc and neonatal loss. Am concerned about you and what you are going through with your (D)H, hope it all works out for the best for you ? sometimes I think pg clouds other relationship issues and makes it hard to be clear about how you feel as a couple, iyswim. If only we could ask our previous, non-pg selves what we thought about it all it might be easier!

Grinningbee ouch! And well done for coming through such a mammoth labour with at least your sense of humour still intact. Am v.impressed you can write that all down so lucidly.

Dan how did you feel after your first day alone? Was she OK with the bottle from your sister? I do love it when you graduates post to remind us what we?re doing this all for ? sometimes I still catch myself in denial/disbelief that a real, live baby will ever appear so to hear your news (and Wheely Gbee and tsom too) is lovely.

Lady Tamlin Macbeth how are you doing? I went through so many packs of M&S?s finest at the beginning of this pg that I threw them away once the spotting finally stopped at around week 8. Hope things are better with you ? how many weeks now?

Crunch my dear how are things? Any action in those nether parts? Good to feel like Mother Earth at times like this I reckon so keep at it And Scotlass what about you? Heard ?Caravan of Love? on the radio this morning which made me think of you . Am wondering which one of you will be off first..... Or LadyHelen - it could be you! Just realised that you are expecting a ?Right Honourable? bump

Ashleigh how are you doing? I would haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate to be staying with a smoker while pg so really feel for you. And moving house too. Such a lot to manage by yourself ? it does annoy me how with solicitors and mortgage people you have to keep hassling them to basically do their job and sort out your documents etc. I mean, surely that is WHAT THEY DO? Sorry, back to you ? have you tried divvying up the tasks and giving one or two specific ones to your DP to take responsibility for by certain deadlines? In my experience (ie my own DH) it?s all too easy to take responsibility for everything and then feel resentful because you?re doing all the work while they swan about. And as for the smoking thing, have you tried asking DH to get MIL to cut down or smoke outside whilst you?re there? Think it is his job to ask myself. Failing that, you could always dry retch and threaten to throw up into the nearest pot plant / umbrella stand / pile of cushions whenever she lights up near you

Jools Hi ? just a quick note on the Clearblue conception tests. I used those and I?m pretty sure they measure from your actual date of conception, not your LMP like doctors do. I?m not sure I have all your acronyms right (preg brain) but if you were 5 weeks pg your test should show 2-3 weeks by rights, BUT they work on averages and every woman / pregnancy is different. It is possible you conceived 2 or 3 days after ovulation, so would register 1-2 weeks until this weekend or so anyway. Here?s to a long and happy stay on the thread for you!

Right, off to lie down on garden seat again ? this post is by far the most active I?ve been the last few days! >>>> to Lola, hope you?re doing OK, and hope everyone else stays happy over the weekend too

scarlotti · 18/04/2009 19:11

tsom lol at the hairy legs and ladyshave! I've finally booked in a wax as haven't done a thing for about 3 months whilst I was feeling so sick. Must be on the up now as have been to he hairdressers today and have a wax on Weds!

Jools haven't used one of those clearblue things personally but I'd echo what the others say. They can't be that accurate so I really wouldn't worry.

sydneysuze am so glad you took some time out to recover. I don't think we really understand the tension etc. that we hold until the next obstacle is over. I really hope now that you will be able to relax a little more and enjoy the rest of your pg.
Thanks for your thoughts with me and (d)h. Sadly it's something that's been brewing in the background over a long time now, so I have a strong suspicion it won't just be pg hormones etc. Am feeling calmer about it all now though (crunch maybe your zen-ness has filtered through mn!) and just think whatever will be will be.

Am sure any calm and zen will disappear soon though!!

Hopeful2 · 19/04/2009 13:47

Tamlin sorry for late in getting back to you. I have just had a letter yesterday to say that I have two appnts comng up - midwife on this coming Thursday & then scan the following Tuesday. If I'm honest I'd rather have the scan first so I know whether everything is ok!
Scarlotti yes I have put the doppler away as it only makes me more anxious. Not sure whether the midwife will be able to hear the hb on Thursday but otherwise it the scan on the Tuesday. Something tells me this nest week or so is going to drag

My boobs are still sore but they have never been mager sore. I'm eating constantly as if I leave it too long I get headaches. But who knows if these are positive signs or not....

dan39 · 19/04/2009 21:27

ashleigh I feel for you re the smoking - its a tough one as its her house, if it was yours you could lay down the law but you can't in hers - I would stay in my room too if I were you...do you not have any other options of ple to visit, even if for weekends/long weekends?
jools agree with otrhers - try not to worry. Sometimes we can suffer from too much knowledge!

Scotlass ooh no words from you!!

tsom postnatal hairy legs amde me laugh - should be a recognised condition!!

Rose went to bed at 8.30 - she has been 'asking' to go to bed earlier for days...woww - eat your heart out Giuna, this babe sets her own routine!!

Tamlin · 20/04/2009 08:04

I thought the nausea was diminishing, but I walked into the kitchen this morning and promptly threw up violently into the kitchen sink. It's so UNSANITARY. However, at least the spotting has stopped...

My nuchal is this Saturday. It's going to be a very long week (in which I really hope I hear from the midwives, because I'm starting to wonder if they're leaving me as long as possible in case I miscarry again...)

Tamlin · 20/04/2009 09:02

Spoke too soon on the spotting front. At the risk of being completely revolting and setting off everyone's nausea, has anyone had very stringy and membranous spotting..? Is this normal?

ladyhelenatealltheeggs · 20/04/2009 11:31

Morning all. Am so sorry haven't been on for so long!

LOL at the right honourable bump, syndney!!! Nothing could be further from the truth! I acquired ladyhelen as a nickname when I did a ski season about 7 years ago. I was a bit older ( I was 32) than the rest of the staff who were all such young pups and they coined the ladyh/ladyhelen name for me and I quite liked it. Better than the nicknames I had a school, believe me!

SO glad your scan went well. I don't think the aprehension ever goes away, even at the later stages. You just need to hear " and there is the heartbeat " as the first words out of the sonographers and you can begin to relax a bit...till the next time. I had weekly scans at the beginning of this pg and fortunately the consultant doing them knew that this was all her patients needed to hear and as soon as she found a heartbeat she would immediately say and turn the screen round.

crunchie and scotlass where are you?? In labour I hope. So looking forward to hearing news from you both soon.

Jools those indicator tests can't be right all the time. The fact there is still aline there is all that matters. Deep breaths and step away from the tests!!

Am now 38+1. Had some contractions this morning at 4am but by 5.30am they were gone. Have no idea what to expect about labour as DS was induced. Just want to get on with it now......

scotlass · 20/04/2009 11:39

Hi everyone, please excuse me for not reading through the last couple of pages, I'll catch up in a moment but am bursting to tell you - HE'S HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nathan James was born on Friday 17th April at 0047hrs after an extremely quick labour - I got to the hospital just in time to push him out - 11 minutes from pulling up at the hospital door to delivering . Two paracetamol at 2200hrs and bobs your uncle. All a bit mental but absolutely what I would've wished for. He's breastfeeding like a dream and I love him to bits. We're soooooo happy

So there is hope for everyone - 3 unexplained mc's and 2yrs of heartache have melted away and I can't believe how much I appreciate him and am so grateful for our beautiful son.

Will attempt to post a pic

tamlin is your membraneous stringy like a discharge?? If so yes that's normal, excretions get more when you're pg - if that makes sense.

ladyhelenatealltheeggs · 20/04/2009 11:55

scotlass well done well done. You've brought tears to my eyes! Huge congratulations on little Nathan's arrival, and wow, how quick??????

scarlotti · 20/04/2009 12:21

scotlass huge congratulations!! You've made me blub in the office too! Am so pleased to hear the labour went so well and that he's feeding well. Sounds like you're off to a magic start.

Tamlin what is the discharge like colour wise? I get all sorts of odd stuff these days

crunchie haven't heard from you - hoping it's because trocodile princess is making an appearance

ladyhelen with both my previous labours, my waters broke first so a sure sign it was on the way. I wouldn't worry about it too much, am sure one the contractions start properly you'll know.

Doing ok-ish here. 12 week scan is next Monday so looking forward to that as will be good to get more concrete news.

prettyfly1 · 20/04/2009 12:22

Scotlass congratulations - best news in ages!!!!

herbaceous · 20/04/2009 12:25

Scotlass! How wonderful! And what a dream labour! Though a slightly more leisurely arrival might suit me better... say, 20 minutes from door to birth.

Is he big and bouncing, or small and dainty? I went to see my friend's new twins on Friday - both about 6lbs! SO CUTE.

As for me, 30 weeks now. Which frankly I can't believe. Get a seat on the tube - apart from the cruel and heartless Central Line - and all my non-maternity-but-pressed-into-service clothes are too small. Had a panic on Friday that he wasn't moving very much, but he then proceeded to go insane yesterday. Little shit tinker...

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 20/04/2009 12:44

Ok, I am completely but also completely for you Scotlass! That is fantastic news, sounds like a dream labour and welcome to little Nathan!

I am still here and still whale-like

Since ds2 was 10 days late I am expecting Ladyhelen to beat me to it too!

Both my previous two were born on a Friday so maybe that'll be my lucky day

OP posts:
scotlass · 20/04/2009 12:47

Thanks guys, I can't stop smiling!

Oo no news from crunchie - trocodile princess def seemed to be on her way, hope she had a lovely home birth.

ladyhelen it was really weird, this labour was soo different to DD's, that's why I nearly ended up with an unplanned home delivery. With DD it was 16hrs, every type of pain relief, ventouse delivery and stitches. this time I though I had a UTI and contractions came on fast and not particularly painful (compared to last time). Dh was timing my contractions from another room as he said I was too calm to be in labour . I hope you have the same experience . I found the last week really hard and quite emotional, all the fears and anxieties from the early weeks surfaced again and I was terrified.

jools - don't take any notice of conception indicator. Mine put me a week behind and I fed that back in the feedback to clearblue (I'd got it as a freebie from MN to trial). Conception dates are hard to be precise about, I knew when Dh and I had bedded (he worked away at the time so was easy to gauge). As ladyhelen says there's a +ve test so that's all that matters.

sydney so glad you're scan was good and you sound much more reassured. That's the thing - the tension and worry we try to hide from everyone in RL really takes its toll and you end up knackered throughout the 9mth pg!

dan - see told you it was the teats . Glad Rose had a good time with her auntie and you were definately productive - I'd have gone back to bed and stayed there all day!

Hope everyone else is well, sorry still haven't caught up with everyones elses news in my mush of a head.
