Hello everyone - yet another thread. I'm expecting a call anyday soon from ITV - as I imagine we'll be prime candidates for taking over the Loose Women slot when they need a break

So, for anyone interested in joining in with us - just jump in and say Hi - we don't bite - unless you're disguised as a chocolate sponge cake

Ladies..................Take it away

Morning/afternoon all. Still the land of the lurgy Verity did a poo so explosive and large that it went all up her back and squeezed its way out up into her neck and hair She was rocking in her chair at the time and each rock back squished more out - so she's already had to have a bath!

Am steam cleaning the floor while they're in bed (asleep at the same time - a minor miracle!)

Afraid I've got cot bumpers - but I've added straps to stick 'em down so they almost look like jw's wraparound thing. But quilts are a no no. Verity likes to sleep with a pile of soft toys of her head and I have to pick them off when she's dropped off!

tee sorry you're feeling bad. And you mrsB

jw hope dentist isn't too painful - finacially or otherwise

bonzo love the freedom of leaving loo door open!

Right - best get on with it while I've got time.

Where's mum41 ? Come in mum41?!

jeanjeannie · 16/03/2009 13:29

X-posts - that's good new jw I've put in for a sonicare for Mother's day!

OMG! That is what you call a poo You poor thing Sounds like you still have your nurses hat on. Make sure you treat yourself once everyone is back on their feet. It'll give you something good to look forward to Even if it's a wander around the shops - on your own

Yes where is mum41 and neddie? Hope they're ok. I know ermintrude will be around soon enough.

jeanjeannie · 16/03/2009 14:00

God I hate cleaning.

jw you read my mind. I've got to get an outfit for my Nan's funeral next week - so I'll be pootling round the lovely little villages of Marlow and Beaconsfield me thinks, while DP has the girls. I've found a skirt in White Stuff on the internet and both those places have a shop there so I can try it on.

The garden looks like th eGaza strip

More tea....

You know if someone we met in our former life BC (i.e. before children) told us that we were treating ourself by going shopping for a funeral outfit.....I think we'd look them in the eye and call them bonkers! But, I hear you sister. You have to take the breaks when and where you can. I'm sure a wander around the shops, even if it isn't for such a nice occasion, will give you a break.

Garden must go on hold JJ what with OH laid up pooing his kecks. You wouldn't put him out there while he's filling his pants. Mind you, I bet a Motherease would fit around him hears JJs cogs whirring into action

Talking of gardens I've told DH that I've phoned a man who can. He's gone potty at this news saying he was getting round to all the jobs I have listed. I only listed them 2 years ago so obviously, he's still at the planning stage Anyway, I want a patio area and I know for a fact his DIY skills are zero. In fact I build all the flat packs in this house he's that bad. meh!

mrsboogie · 16/03/2009 14:24

jj hehe that's disgusting - OH loved that description though!

Well the cot is up and its very nice (complete with scruffy blanket and a row of teddies acting as a bumper )but is having an odd effect - put D into it for his 10am nap and we (by which I mean OH) had to run up and down the stairs for an hour and a half as he refused to go to sleep until we gave up and brought him down. Fed him, more play, tired again, back up to cot and same again. So he's had no naps today and is again full of beans. I think I might get into it meself and see if it has the same effect!

jw I love my sonicare!they should come on the nhs and we wouldn't need any dentists.

ladymac · 16/03/2009 14:43

Hi all. Have been trying to catch up as hadn't been near my laptop since thursday. Can't remember an awful lot as my brain had trouble moving on from floria's Malibu roulade. Tongue has been hanging out ever since. Enjoyed reading about the poo that came up Verity's back and dirtied her hair. Sorry jj, know it probably wasn't much fun for you but it really made me

Sorry there's so much ill health around the place. I'm sure I've mentioned it before but can I highly recommend Lactobacillus Acidophilus? I take it every day in capsule form and am sure it's kept me healthy (ish) during this pregnancy. Have also found it in strawberry or banana flavoured powder made by BioCare which I sprinkle on to Elizabeth's breakfast or in her milk. It's really good during or after a stomach bug and essential in my opinion if you're taking antibiotics. You can buy a huge tub of capsules from Holland and Barrett relatively cheaply or the better quality stuff online. Right, that's my alternative health rant over!

Can hear noises coming from E's bedroom so I'd better go as we're off to meet a friend at the park. It's a beautiful day here so want to get some fresh air. Must go to Sainsburys on the way home as my parents are coming for an early supper and all I've done towards cooking the Cottage Pie is take some mince out of the freezer. Was going to cook it this afternoon but logged on to mumsnet and it's taken me ages to catch up. You lot can't half talk

ermintrude13 · 16/03/2009 14:44

Yes, here I am JW, co-eeee! So, let me catch up: JJ, writing from her poo-filled home, is looking forward to a shopping spree for funereal garb and the touching gift of a Sonicare for Mother's Day; JW is cruelly questioning her DH's manly DIY skills after only 2 years of his procrastinations and mrsB has narrowly avoided suffocating baby D with cot bumpers, the poor child being saved only by the swift actions of Bonzo. And all I've done is go to Asda (budget week, no Sainbury's allowed) and hang out a load of washing. Lovely sunshine though!

My DC also survived cot bumpers and this new one will be expected to follow suit, if it's full term and hale and hearty. We have one with little pockets in it each containing a soft toy that makes a different sound and I'm looking forward to being woken by the sound of baby giggles and various rattles and squeaks .

Tee so sorry you're still feeling nauseous. I'm not feeling 100% meself still, and the bump is really dragging. I looked in the mirror this morning and decided something needed doing so I used some of that new Boots No 7 skin illuminating fluid to which I treated myself with a £5 off voucher last week - and THREE people in the playground said how well I was looking. It's even lighter than their tinted moisturiser I usually use but still somehow manages to even things out. A miracle! btw, I'm in awe of your bladder sitting in a cinema for 2.5 hours! Slumdog Millionaire is 2 hours plus ads and trailers and I had to go for a wee just before the film started and barely managed to hold on til the final credits .

Parent's evening for DS this afternoon - here's hoping he's been more imaginative with his diary entries; last time we went in he'd written the same thing EVERY Monday in the What I Did at the Weekend: "I plaid with my dee ess". No mention of football, walks, family visits, lunches with friends, going to the park, bowling, the movies, parties etc etc... the shame of it!

johnworf · 16/03/2009 15:05

lol ermintrude at the 'dee ess'! That job sweeping chimneys doesn't half pay well

Great synopsis of the toings and froings of us avid posters.

mrsb all I can say is keep persisting with D. Otherwise he'll be still in his amby at 18 years of age..arms and legs hanging over the side

mrsboogie · 16/03/2009 15:49

spot on ermintrude

Will have to persist jw as the bloody thing is up now and he barely fits into the Amby as it is. I think he is missing bouncing himself to sleep but he sleeps in a travel cot at grandma's and a cot at nursery so he can't pretend its totally alien (well, he can actually )

so glad I stayed off today as the violent sneezes and geriatric hacking cough would have echoed throughout the open plan office all day...

Tabitha8 · 16/03/2009 17:00

Hello all. Had Little Tab scanned on Friday and she's looking like an 8 pounder. That's huge for a first one, isn't it? She'll get stuck. I hope she has a crowbar in there at the ready.

Tee2072 · 16/03/2009 17:00

Totally gross JJ! I am so looking forward to that sort of thing, really I am!

See, mrsb, this is why I am a little worried about getting an Amby or moses basket. Seems every baby I hear about then has a hard time transitioning to a cot when they outgrow it. But there is certainly no room for a cot in our bedroom and I do want to do the rooming in thing, at least for the first month or two.

Speaking of gardens, DH actually said to me this weekend, 'we should think about moving next year. It would be nice to have a garden.' I went and am wondering who is going to do the gardening, as I have a black thumb! Oh how impending fatherhood changes a man!

Tabitha8 · 16/03/2009 17:30

Tee It's ok. JJ is just winding up us first time mummies-to-be. Such things cannot be possible.
[Tabitha hurries off to find someone willing to bring child up for the first two years].

Tee2072 · 16/03/2009 17:44

I was thinking more the first 10 or 12 tabitha.

BonzoDoodah · 16/03/2009 17:47

jj eeeeeeeewwwwwwwww at the poo in the hair ... hideous but funny when it's ahppening to you and not me

jw woo hoo at the dentist. I have to reccomend the whitening toothpaste before you go spending money on dentist stuff. I used it (colgate) for a few months and my teeth are noticably whiter. It also helps if you don't rinse at the end as the stuff stays on your teeth a bit longer.

I was a bit eeek at finding out cot bumpers were bad bad bad. I'd used one with DD before I knew and only took it off after a (an?) horrendous experience with a babysitter. A mother friend with twins (same ages as dd) came to babysit as I'd sat for her. Was a bit reluctant to leave as baby wasn't quite asleep but was in bed. She said it was fine and to go and she'd sort her out. Well I did go but worried a bit and came back straight from our meal. SOooooo glad I did. Got in an noticed the baby monitor was off - odd - asked her how baby had been and she said she cried a bit but was then ok but had her head against the cot bumper so had untied it. I saw friend off ... then went upstairs and the first thing I noticed was the smell of sick in the room - horrendous - my girl was NEVER sick so it was very unusual. She was lying in it and was all over her side. Plus the cot bumper had sick on it!!!!!!! I was distraught! Friend has twins and so (by necessity?) has a different parenting style (let em cry) whereas I am completely hands on - demand feed, comfort all the way ... I was traumatised for days ... all I could think of was my (PFB) crying and crying until she was sick and "friend" downstairs with the baby monitor off watching TV!
I learned a few lessons that night-
not let her babysit again
trust your instincts
throw away the cot bumper.

Sigh.

Tabitha8 · 16/03/2009 17:48

Quick thinking, Tee. You are right. [Tabitha rushes off again].

johnworf · 16/03/2009 17:52

hehe @ you two with journey into the unknown tabitha I'm afraid that poo and sick get into places that you'd never imagine when you're a mummy. I remember walking around in work with rock hard weetabix that had set on my shoulder. Obviously burped up before I left that morning. I had no idea until someone pointed it out The joys.

tee your DH is finding more work for you - as if a baby isn't enough. Maybe he can get you a second job in the evenings?

tabitha are you having sizing scans? If so, they're notoriously way off. I'd take what they say with a pinch of salt

Tabitha8 · 16/03/2009 17:55

That's right, JW. Growth scans. Little Tab is on the 95th centile. I ought to take up smoking to shrink her down a bit .

ermintrude13 · 16/03/2009 18:00

My DH used to get particularly upset at having to wipe poo out of DD's fanny when she was a teeny baby. That's one thing you don't have with boys .

tabitha - I'm with JW, they're so often way out. 8lb isn't that massive anyway (although I'm glad my 9 and a half pounder came 2nd).

Tee my sis has a v small flat and she has done something with an Ikea cot which I didn't listen to at the time but will ask her about for you - basically they've taken one side off and fixed it to their bed at the right height so she can just 'roll on-roll off' and everyone can have their own space with minumum effort. I'll find out how easy it was or whether it's a mad thing made of string and paperclips (her OH is an eccentric DIY-er sometimes).

Bonzo at your little babe being left to cry till she puked, but I don't understand why the bumper was a problem....? The only consolation is that your LO won't remember a thing about it, poor lamb.

jeanjeannie · 16/03/2009 19:54

Evening all. Well, I'm thrilled I've amused you all with poo antics tee & tabitha .....Oh you guys have SOOO much to look forward too I can really relate to jw's rock hard wetabix on the shoulder story. I used to be quite groomed before DC - and now I'm lucky if I don't smell of sick BTW: you'll discover that weetabix and porridge, once cold, will set into a substance that could be called..."I can't believe it's not concrete"

ermintrude that was a fabulous precis of our lives thus far!

ladymac Acidophilus is marvellous - we have it here in capsule form. Hope the cottage pie got beyond defrosting the mince!

JW I'm still laughing at the thought of DP in a Motherease

bonzo OMG I'd have been traumatised too. Verity wails until she's sick - poor thing

Can I resist a nice bowl of greek yoghurt???

OP posts:
FloriaTosca · 16/03/2009 20:07

Tee Not all babies find the transition from Amby to cot difficult. My Alex out-grew his Amby at 9mths and went into a huge cotbed without any problems whatsoever..I'm the one who missed having him by my side, swinging and bouncing him to sleep. An alternative is like the solution ermintrudes sister used, a co-sleeper cot like this

bonzo at your babysitter...I would have flipped my lid!!!!!

JJ sorry but I couldnt help laughing.Ihope they all get better soon and you can get some rest

Tabitha as JW said, growth scans can be way out...my pal was told she was having a 10lb+er and encouraged to have and elective c-section, she resisted their urges and delivered naturally without even 1 stitch a 6lb 13oz boy

mrsboogie · 16/03/2009 20:19

oh bonzo that sounds horrible - poor baby - although like ermintrude I didn't quite get the bit about the cot bumper?

tee I know what you are the Amby however with the benefit of hindsight I would still go for it as we have had six lovely months with it.

I actually wrote the above 2 hours ago - before we tried yet again to put D to bed. Not a chance. Sat up there for ages with him and he refuses to sleep. He's back downstairs now in his activity centre bold as brass

tabitha I was told that D was going to be a ten pounder at least and they wiffled on at me about 95 centiles and how his tummy was very wide yadda yadda. When he came out he was only 7lbs 15.

duchesse · 16/03/2009 20:29

tabitha- my third was supposed according to scan at 36 weeks to be between 5.5 and 6 lbs at term (was having 2 weekly scans because they were worried about IUGR due to small abdominal girth (a family trait)). A scan at the Harris Birthright centre at Kings' college revealed her to be of perfectly average weight in fact. She was born at 42 weeks weighing 7 lbs 9oz.

My first baby was 8lbs 12 oz, and if it's any consolation his birth and my friend's first were virtually identical although her baby was 5lbs 3 oz. A very slight friend who herself normally weighs 7 stone soaking wet produced a 9 lber first time with very few problems.

Also, 8 lbs is a very good healthy weight. Go baby Tab.

johnworf · 16/03/2009 20:45

bonzo not sure that I'd call your babysitter a friend. I would have had to have words with her afterwards. I'd have been furious if my baby had been left to cry until was sick AND she'd turned off the monitor

I use the sensodyne whitening toothpaste and it has got them a few shades whiter but not as white as I'd like them. Still, £500 is a lot just to have them looking purdy

I'm craving a Starbucks skinny decaf latte. No chance. Nearest 462 Starbucks are all in a mile square radius in Manchester city centre. I can't be bothered going out now.

It's weigh in tomorrow. I wonder if I've lost anything?

jeanjeannie · 16/03/2009 21:22

Oh I'd love a Starbucks right now. I'm partial to their gingerbread latte - shame it only makes an appearance at Xmas

Weigh in....MMmm, I might give that a miss this week - what with not getting out much, snaffling down greek yoghurt and some rogue white chocolate with blueberries that found its way into my hot little hands.... Yes, yes, I think my weigh will have to go on hold!!!
