I actually had to throw up because I heard my DH having a poo. Didn't smell it, just heard plopping. Thankfully we have a separate toilet, so could go in bathroom to yak in the sink!

This stuck me as completely ridiculous--anyone else get triggered by something that seemed so daft?

(Please indulge me, I'm trying to see the funny side!)

Packets of cheese and onion crisps. I didn't even have to taste them or smell them, just seeing a packet or thinking about them would set me off.

brettgirl2 · 10/03/2009 12:26

It was the foul stench of those free british gas energy saving lightbulbs with me

EsmeWeatherwax · 10/03/2009 12:26

Soap. The smell of it made me hurl really badly.

Also if I even talked about being sick, I'd basically be sick.

And so far have hurled all over dd1 twice while changing her dirty nappies. It just came on so fast, I didn't have time to get out her way. She'll have a complex for life the poor wee soul...

christywhisty · 10/03/2009 12:34

Doing the washing up always used to get me started. With DS I had evening sickness rather than morning sickness.

PinkTulips · 10/03/2009 12:39

if i ate mushrooms.

oddly they were one of the few things that i could stomach eating in the first place but i couldn't keep them down

the smell of vinegar on dp's chips set me off really badly too.

upagumtree · 10/03/2009 12:41

The smell of Lenor fabric softener. Even now (post pregnancy) it makes me wretch. No problems with it pre pregancy though.

The perfume I loved. Also now still cant wear.

Patients vomitting. That was hell and no avoiding it.

rainbowdays · 10/03/2009 12:41

My car - the smell of it ! noone else knew what I was talking about, but in order to be able to drive it, I had to hold my breath while opening the door, then throw in a tissue with albas oil on, then close the door quick before I could smell the car. I could then get in when the car smelled totally of albas oil!!!!!! Filling the car with petrol was also a problem!!!!

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 10/03/2009 12:44

Cleaning my teeth, though that always makes me wretch.

The smell of beef crisps. And eating anything. I was sick a lot. I hated pregnancy and this didn't help.

frazzledoldbag · 10/03/2009 12:53

those blue carrier bags you get your shopping in at corner shops - the smell of them was horrific (especially in the car). I remember having all the car windows open, crying because I realised there must be one in the boot while I was driving along - and was on a busy road so couldn't stop the car immediately!! Even now (30wks) I can't even look at one without feeling nauseous. Yuck.

frazzledoldbag · 10/03/2009 12:54

oh and clarins skin care stuff. Dh got a load of clarins stuff for christmas and if he put some of the moisturiser on in the morning or had even used the face wash then got in the car next to me I'd have to open all the windows as I couldn't bear the smell. (and it's not even a strong smell normally either). Bleurgh.

frazzledoldbag · 10/03/2009 12:55

Actually, just thinking about those 2 things and writing them down has made me feel a bit sick. Gross.

helsy · 10/03/2009 12:57

Looking at the washing up set me off too - couldn't go in the kitchen. Honest

TV programmes where people were eating also did it.

MrsMattie · 10/03/2009 12:57

People talking about food - discussing what they were going to cook etc.

The sight of meat in the supermarket, especially packs of skinless chicken breasts

The sight of old fag ends on the pavement (triggered some of my worst wretching attacks)

helsy · 10/03/2009 12:58

Ooh, and cigarette smoke - so the women on the ante-natal ward I was on because I had hyperemesis who came back from the smoking room with their dressing gowns smelling of smoke used to make me vomit.

helsy · 10/03/2009 12:59

And the smell of hospital soap. It's all coming back to me now.

Mumcentreplus · 10/03/2009 13:03

My DH's aftershave he had to change it 4 times!..I couldn't stand him near me poor man

ToiletRollCover · 10/03/2009 13:06

It wa stale beer with DS1. Worked in a pub so it was really difficult to pry myself away from the toilets to do anything. Also just thinking about the toilet being dirty made me heave. We were lucky enough to have two loos at the time so I had to reserve one and no one was allowed to use it except me to be sick in.

SpookyMadMummy · 10/03/2009 13:11

Blowing my nose in a morning sets me off. It was awful when I had a cold.

MustHaveaVeryShortMemory · 10/03/2009 13:12

That song Grace Kelly - by Mika. Just writing it now gives me a wave of nausea.

PinkTulips · 10/03/2009 13:12

upagumtree has reminded me, the first time i puked with dd was walking down shop street in galway on a clear breezy day and was suddenly enveloped in a cloud of perfume that made me intensly sick.

the closest woman who could have been wearing it was about 20 feet away though, damn pregnancy sense of smell!

sarah76 · 10/03/2009 13:14

MrsMattie just reminded me....was visiting my Dad and he wouldn't shut up about what he was going to cook for dinner--had to run for the toilet!

His partner told him off for that--I had asked him several times not to talk about food and he honestly thought it couldn't be that bad

The theme tune to Bob the Builder and Thomas the Tank engine makes nauseaus even now as poor ds1 had to watch so much of it when I was sick with dS2.

The smell of my new lounge carpet and sofa used to make me sick. Didn't sit in the lounge until i was about 7 months!

frazzledoldbag · 10/03/2009 13:29

OH also was watching Nigella Lawson cookery programme (stupid, I know) and she started making something with spaghetti, cream and raw egg. The TV was switched off very quickly!

mrsgboring · 10/03/2009 13:30

Anyone talking about food, the sight of it in the shop or cooking or someone else eating or cooking. Thinking about the plughole or the hoover. Moving my head, therefore talking to people I didn't know very well as I had to make eye contact with them and nod/smile etc.
