Prams with carrycot which ones are the best and got longest use off???

Arrrrrg i hate this minefield of prams!

everytime i think i find one i like, i find something i dont like about it!

i want one with a carrycot that will last a while i was looking at mutsy but then saw a newish baby in one and he looked like too big for it so i think that idea is out the window. im not keen on three wheelers and dp not keen on anything with small trolly type wheels, there just doesnt seem to be anything that we i like out there at all!

key things i would like are

carrycot (good size one)
sturdy wheels
front and rear facing

any of you wise mnetters have a magical pram solution for me {hopeful emotion}

I have 10 weeks till baby is due and its not looking hopeful!

The Bugaboo does all of those things although I haven't actually got one myself yet.

They go for a scary £700 brand new! But I'm going to get a second hand one from EBay for around £350. I plan only to use it for a year (we've already got a McLaren) and then sell it back on Ebay for hopefully not too much of a loss.

I have a Bebe Confort one with a good-sized, deep carrycot. All of my 3 slept in it during the day until they were 5/6 months(moses basket was upstairs). It converted to a front or rear-facing pushchair.

I have a Silvercross classic sleepover - baby sleeps in carry cot in early days so no need for moses basket, comes with 'stand' for use indoors, and is forward and backward facing as a pushchair. Its big so you need a big boot or somewhere to store it, its not easy to lift, but I love it! Big wheels, big basket underneath, and bigger than some carry cots so lasts a little longer.

Had a Bugaboo until it was checked on board an airplane and got trashed

Good timing though as I was 8 months pregnant with DS and the airline paid out.

Loved the Bugaboo. I would look at the Frog/Geko as the material is more durable than the fleece on the Cameleon.

Thanks all, i like the sound of bebe confort lasting 5/6 mnths!!

I was looking at the bugaboo and i must admit i really like the look of them but the one thing that puts me off is that when i looked into them the carrycot seems to made of fabric hung by velcro to the frame and cant help wondering if it maybe a little cold?
I live on west coast of scotland and sunny warm days are few and far between!

also i cant see the difference between gecko,chamelion and frog??

any bug lovers out feel free to try and convince me otherwise!

can i also ask of who had/has the loola is it heavy? and are the wheels any good they look thin and small.

Wow, bonus MrObama!

I didn't go for the fleece fabric when I got my Cameleon, because of the durability. There is a pretty good choice of colours in the canvas too.

The geko is quite a bit smaller than the cam and misses some features (can't remember what).

The carry cot really isn't cold. My DD was a November baby and we had no problems at all. She fitted in the carrycot just fine until 5 or 6 months old too.

Ahh so fabrics are different then. i have been looking at then but they all just look the same apart from colour skulks away back to highland hut! im so behind with these sorts of things.

The iCandy Cherry has a carrycot (lasted DS1 until c5 months), pretty sturdy wheels and faces front and rear. Also fits in a relatively small car boot, although probably wouldn't be great if you were public transporting a lot. We really like it.

Thing about carrycot prams is that they are invariably heavier than strollers...by four months I had switched to a Mac buggy with a head hugger and lie flat function - suited DS down to the ground as he could look around when out and about and then I could lie him flat when he wanted to sleep. Much lighter, cheaper and smaller.

Given the small amount of time they spend in a carry cot, maybe worth going straight for a lie flat stroller type thing

I used a moses basket in the day and just moved it upstairs at night

Oh thanks for that eclectech i had saw this a few times and it looked pretty compact so i thought the carrycot would be also!

Bugaboos are brill we got a new camaeleon and our sil got a 2nd hand frog, hers is in better condition and its about 4 years old she only paid £230 for it.

To be honest i will get a buggy as well just for nipping about in and out car etc.

but where i live there is a lots of walking to be done and lots of lovely promenade and seaside, town and park walking so to be sort of old fashioned i quite like the feel of a proper pram
and if it was practical i would go for my most fave which is the vintage silvercross heritage pram but i have nowhere to store it at all so thats a no go and my dp hates them.

Is there any particular reason you would like a carrycot? They seem to be VERY heavily and expensive and the baby doesn't use them for a very long time. We have decided to go with the Bugaboo Bee with a moses basket to sleep in during the day...

I have the Silver Cross Sleepover on the Linear chassis - it's a big pram and carrycot (as another poster said), but if you plan on doing some walking, rather than lots of driving, it'll be good.

And looks lovely - mine cost £480, including car seat, wooden rocker to turn carrycot into moses basket, and loads of extras. Love it!

I really dont like the look of the bee it seems so dinky and almost toy like! Years ago when i had my dds i went straight for buggy from start but i am out a lot and i would like the baby to be as comfortable as possible because of that reason.

mamas & papas ultima with X cel chassis BUT I have managed to break 2 chassis' at £250 a pop.

The micralite toro is the best of both, the carrycot is lovely and padded, and the puschair itself is more like a buggy size and weight.
My ds didn't use the carrycot part for very long, but he is huge!!

Def worth a look.
