Come join our merry (talkative) band of ladies who lunch - feel sick - are getting fatter - sleep deprived or run off their feet with babies! Some of us suffer all of the above - while trying to retain an air of calm and mystery

All we ask is you play nicely, eat cake and indulge in the occasional gossip and moan about our ills....or anything else that we can think of.

We're like grumpy old women....only not so grumpy...

Afternoon all. Gosh it's the house of tiny squealers here. Iris has just cut a MASSIVE bottom molar - how the heck haven't I seen that before?! No wonder she's been chewing everything - stuff looks like it's been mauled by a jack russell

mum41 hiya! Must be odd seeing one twin break away and do things first. Verity has sort of rolled but she's not keen - it's straight onto the front commando for her!

Yikes re: an eptopic - ugh! Yes, I'm thinking the adhesions probably have something to do with it all - although I may have just forgotten how painful my periods always have been. I got to 6cm dilated without much discomfort - doc couldn't believe it when he checked - I said it was no worse than a period and he said "they must be bad then!" Shame I ended up with a c-section I was feeling all brave at that point in the labour

Pressure cooker is on the boil - steaming away like a nutter....I like to live on the edge....one day I'm gonna force that stew straight through the tiny hole....

mum41 I have a friend whose twin boys were born 1 minute apart (by emergency CS after awful trial of labour) and the 'younger' one will still look up to the 'big' bro. I remember when they were v tiny and had just mastered stairs, and they walked downstairs together and the 'older' one turned round, patted his bro on the head and said, 'Well done, Thomas!' as though he were ten years older

johnworf · 17/02/2009 17:48

haha ermintrude My oldest DD mothered both of her brothers and she was only 3 years older than the oldest boy.

Did anyone read this? I've only just spotted it. Can believe that there is all out war on this board at times which is why I'll happily sit on this thread, well within my comfort zone I wonder if I'm a moldie?? hehe. Hope so.

DH playing bridge tonight so I'm at home with the babies. Think I might have to peruse the new Boden collection...oh, and the new Mini Boden catalogue arrived y'day so that will need a viewing too Cor, it's pricey stuff.

Poor Iris getting her back tooth through while mummy ignored her Hope she's coping with the pain. Wow jj you're in a teething tandem nightmare.

jeanjeannie · 17/02/2009 18:24

AHHHHH!!!! Won't eat, can't eat....Iris is in tooth meltdown; refusing to eat all but the tastiest of smooth desserts Cunning little madame!

jw yep, I saw that - apparently the 'original' MNetters don't like newbies....so, rather than get a life - they got a new section of MN - by invite only SADDOS!!! Bit confused as to why MN have done it....then again....they all sound like the cliquey group of mums at the school gate who think they're cool! IF I were to be invited I'd be insulted....who want's to join a member's only club? So been there and done that.....so very late 90s

DOn't know why but 'Bridge night' always makes me smile! Have fun with Boden - I believe there is 15% off and free P&P if that helps?!

Off to tend to teeth although Iris is riding around on her trike with a clear plastic bucket on her head singing the Tittifer's song

mrsboogie · 17/02/2009 18:33

oh good Lord - what a kerfuffle!

That is something you wouldn't get on a male forum - women can be so cliquey.

/shelters in the warm fuzzy glow of the 40+ thread...

mrsboogie · 17/02/2009 18:37

yeah - why did it have to be invitation only?
there are dozens and dozens of threads on here about all sorts of personal stuff - why did that one area to exclude others? it's no wonder the excludees got the hump.

ermintrude13 · 17/02/2009 19:01

Ooh, when I read that headline I thought it was new (as in young or first-time) mums against older mums ie. US! Wondered how I'd missed it then put it down to my great decrepitude, the need for reading glasses and general confusion about the interweb . Then realised it meant mumsnet oldies as opposed to those of us who've clocked up a few years. Phew! And what a daft argument to have anyway.

jeanjeannie · 17/02/2009 19:04

I bet it smells of moth-balls & Ovaltine anyway...

and damp tweed

Tee2072 · 17/02/2009 19:38

Oh yeah, that whole moldies thing was just so stupid.

If you do cruise the main boards, you'll see, almost exactly a month apart, every month, a new thread about how all of MN is going to the dogs and the boards will close. And every time someone posts that, I post back that there it is, right on schedule, the end of the world post.

They are all just so young. Its the 'net people, it ain't real life!

mrsboogie · 17/02/2009 19:55

So, where or what are the main boards exactly?

Tee2072 · 17/02/2009 20:00

It usually pops up in Active, under AIBU. Its usually something like

'Am I being unreasonable to think that Mumsnet is going to explode?'

Or

'am I being unreasonable to think the newbies are annoying'

Things like that.

I used main board to mean anything that wasn't this wonderful thread!!!

Tee2072 · 17/02/2009 20:00

Hey, here's one, right here!!

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/706402-to-get-really-pissed-off-when-asking-for-advice- on

At least its heading that way!

johnworf · 17/02/2009 20:30

Oh dear. Reading those sorts of threads makes me want to weep. Bitchy, arrogant, obnoxious. Won't be subscribing to any of those thank you very much

I think I've been spoilt on here

jeanjeannie · 17/02/2009 20:36

Yes we have all been spoilt - we're all sooooo lovely. I think we're like 1950s style housewives; perma-grin, dirndl skirts and a look that says...."I've put poison in my husband's casserole"

Hahaha I like the Property / DIY board...I sometimes dip in there and at the moment there is a thread about buying property now...and it's amazing how many of them believe the prices are going up!!?? Tra-lee-la-lee-la....head in the sand kiddies or what?!

Oh am fancying Ric in Holby again

OP posts:
mrsboogie · 17/02/2009 20:54

Oh I see, thanks tee

haha that's funny - pointless circular arguments.

I think MN is brilliant - it amazes me that people will take the time to come on and give detailed advice and guidance, with personal history in order to help a complete stranger. Like on the Badhusband and bad husband's wife threads. It's worth putting up with a few narky patronising know-it-alls for that!

jeanjeannie · 17/02/2009 21:03

Hey up - what's going on..? I'm fancying someone else on telly - Dr Brian Cox - the physisist (and ex D-Ream member!) sad I know.
OOoo, maybe I just need to jump DP Damm and blast this period

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 17/02/2009 21:28

I agree mrsb. MN is amazing. Post a question and within an hour, BAM an answer!

johnworf · 17/02/2009 21:33

OOOOh Mistresses is back on. I soooo love it. Not being a mistress that is, but the series. Reminds me of back in the days when I actually had get togethers with real life (RL) g/f's.

I had lunch with my ex today. No idea why he still wants to catch up with me as we're just not suited at all. But, every 6 months or so, he pops up. I actually wore make up and looked nice - well you have to show them what they're missing. I couldn't go as in my usual guise of baby food all over me, greasy hair, leggings etc....so anyway, I said I was going out shopping to DH which was very naughty as I usually tell him when I'm meeting Ex. Anyhoo, when I got home he asked me if I was having an affair as I'm usually laiden down with bags and I had none What's the saying about the truth will out? Btw it was strictly lunch and no shenanigans so I've nothing to feel that guilty about - unless you count fibbing to your beloved. Dunno whether to come clean now......he'll be more hurt I fibbed than the fact I met up with him. Argghhhh.

Ooooh yes, Ric is lovely So is Joseph though....and he's posh!

johnworf · 17/02/2009 21:35

Just realised my last post included mistress and meeting up with an ex. Can I just clarify that the two are completely unrelated!

Kaz1967 · 18/02/2009 01:22

JW I fancy James May too but think it's cos I want to mother him he looks like he needs looking after LOL

This is a video of Kezzy standing you have to put your head on one side and please ignore boxes in background.

FloriaTosca · 18/02/2009 09:30

JJ Oh yes a wardrobe full of papernylon petticoats, winkle-picker stilettos and a drawer full of hair spray here too

JWdoes no harm to make 'em wonder every now and again... stops complacency setting in..

Kaz Well done Kezzy, she really was please with herself wasn't she?... and well done you getting it on video...Alex did it when we were in SouthAfrica on holiday, we have a few stills of it but had left the video camera at home to save weight

It is foggy and damp here today...I had better get the dog walked before it starts to tipple down

hedgepig · 18/02/2009 10:09

morning, much better sleep last night young O was showing signs of wanting to get up and play at 4:30 againg but I just snuggled him until he went back to sleep. We really are going to have to sort some sort of routine out with the boy but it is so much easier to bring him into bed in the night to get him to settle than sit there trying to calm him in his cot.

JW I would say very perceptive of your DH hopefully he will focus this new attention to detail more toward the washing up, it would probably be worse to come clean now though.

I must say I love MN as Tee says you can answers to pretty much anything within the hour and also get different perspectives on things etc. I can honestly say I think this thread has kept me sane over the last few months, I do find the whole new baby thing so isolating. There are however some posters who have a theme to bang on about and won't let it go, I tend to wander off somewhere else at that point.

DH Ill in bed again and Ben has decided he is ill too so is lying down upstairs (don't know how much rest DH is getting , shall I check nahhhhhhh)

Right off to check my new obsession Freecycle I must remember I am supposed to be getting rid of things not acquiring new junk.

mrsboogie · 18/02/2009 10:19

morning all

'orrible mizzly weather here, currently having heated debate with self about whether to go out or not...

I see that Jacqueline Gold (she of Ann Summers fame) is pregnant for the first time at 48 by IVF and has a 16 yrs younger fiance (tsk tsk how inappropriate )

Sounds like she's fit in well on here

Neddie · 18/02/2009 10:29

Aww. Bless. I'd forgotten how wibbly wobbly they are at that age KAZ. Had my first ante-natal appointment yesterday-all well BP 100/60 BMI 22 weight 9 1/2 stone (only put on 9lb in 9 weeks-feels like soooo much more)But tummy measured 13 weeks preg. OOOps . They will let me have a caesarian this time Yippee(no more snow shoe sized forceps for me!)Quite frankly I don't feel a failure for not pushing them out the natural way- I've got the tee-shirt for that one (twice).
Re-Jade It's her life and if she wants to continue the circus to help her sons then let her do it. I went to private school and it was very good for me but it was a Catholic boarding school and very strict -so not St. Trinnians. Both my children go to state school and are doing very well and are extremely happy (though I do correct their Wiltshire dialect quite a bit!)
Re- Mouldies- there are always people in this world who think they are better than others for some reason. Let them stay in their invitation only area- these kind of people (now I am being judgemental)probably have no real friends in the outside world.
I prefer to be in here with you guys, who are normal and don't seem to be perfect.
