Come join our merry (talkative) band of ladies who lunch - feel sick - are getting fatter - sleep deprived or run off their feet with babies! Some of us suffer all of the above - while trying to retain an air of calm and mystery

All we ask is you play nicely, eat cake and indulge in the occasional gossip and moan about our ills....or anything else that we can think of.

We're like grumpy old women....only not so grumpy...

Not my cup of tea errrrrrrrrm tee

New Wednesday pic of katherine

ermintrude13 · 11/02/2009 08:47

Aw cute JW she's saying - what is the point of wearing a tee-shirt with a cool motif and covering it up with a flippin' bib?!

Obama is far to clean to appeal to me sack-wise. James Martin just looks dirty. Clooney is just so handsome it's a joke.

The list of shaggable politicians is below:

talking of which, I awoke to the sound of Anne Widdicombe being interviewed on Today and instantly thought of JJ's FIL, which was an odd start to the day

Glad the stirfry worked ladymac. I meant to say that, authentically speaking, it should indeed be rice wine but my MIL was from outer Lincolnshire and thought that sherry was exotic, so I've just always followed suit. Always have a bit of sherry in, housewife tipple and vital for gravy.

johnworf · 11/02/2009 08:52

JJ the thought of AW and your FiL together, over lunch, scares me. I think you should phone ahead and pre-warn the restaurant. I don't think they'll know what's hit them

ermintrude I can't think of any politicians I'd shag either. But I would really like to get up close and personal with Steve Jones (the geneticist, not the good looker from T4).

Bib there as she tries to eat that rather than the filthy muck out of the bowl. Plus she likes to spread her food around

Neddie · 11/02/2009 08:54

Hi there not much sleep I'm afraid-foot up in the air and horribly painful. No painkillers as I'm pregnant. I too had a mega crush on James Martin but then I saw him on some programme where he was in a rally and he was such an odious tosser that I don't think I'll ever watch another item he's in. Sorry to shatter your illusions girls but just don't go there- I know there are probably loads of lovely Northern men but he was the epitome of all the stereotypical male chauvinists that appear to be spawned there. Sorry this was not meant to be a rant on Northern men-I honestly have nothing against them
How about Hugh Jackman? Morten Harket-yes high cheekbones and the accent- a winner.

jeanjeannie · 11/02/2009 09:14

ladymac I'm HOWLING at ED syndrome...that's it from now on - I'm gonna be spotting those lesbian men everywhere!

ermintrude poor you - being awoken by the sound of AW and thoughts of my FIL

jw that's such a cool outfit - goes with her curl. She looks such a big girl the Tripp Trapp Just googled Steve Jones...cor, he's got smething of the Terence Stamp about him

No - I don't do chefs....not for me. Can't think of any politicians...although I would have done Paddy Ashdown in his day! I'd obviously have to inspect the whole of the House of Commons though before I turned them all down....and while I'm at it - I'll sniff around the Lords too...no point in limiting myself

Forgot to say yesterday - we got confirmation of a place at the speach playgroup - I'm very chuffed as it means if there are any real problems we're fast tracked through Apparently most turn out to have no problems and just fall away leaving space for others. Such a simple system - why can't so many other things work like that?

OP posts:
ermintrude13 · 11/02/2009 09:18

Since Paddy Pantsdown could kill a man with one arm tied behind his back, just think what he could do to a lady with the use of both his arms..

MUM41plus5 · 11/02/2009 09:38

God morning girls

After cathing up and reading post from last night I was begining to feel a little beneath all you ex university, literary types and was going to ask if anyone had any sugestions for another thread where I might fit in a little more, that was until I realized the subject matter of most of the latest posts of sh..able men and thought.... nap maybe we're not so different after all, I'm staying

Tee I agree with you about privacy, I really am new to all this and I'm not sure what I should reveal, what I should't and I can't deny I do wonder if everybody else is who they say they are but I do find it has been very easy to feel like you know people in a way and the ease of which it is to share some things you probably wouldn't in RL.

ermintrude thanks for the rhymes

As for the current subject matter of afore mentioned attractive men I too have no firm favorites when it comes to the politians but a couple if we were to extend it to journalist or news readers...... Dermot Murnaghan and Donal McIntyre..... Oh and on the actor front would have to be Jonny Depp or Colin Farrell

MUM41plus5 · 11/02/2009 09:41

Aaawwww JW lovely pic all that gorgeous black hair

Tee2072 · 11/02/2009 09:59

Aww JW what a cute picture!

neddie I hope your foot feels better soon! James looks like a total nasty man...that's why I like him.

mrsboogie · 11/02/2009 10:00

hi ladies

First a wee whinge: OMG I am soo tired. Mr D is a Very Bad Egg. Woke three times for feeds in the night, plus a big Widdling Through of nappy and clothes and several episodes of loud pig wrestling. I swear its worse he's getting. After the worst night ever he awoke full of cheer at 7am and lay in our bed fizzing in readiness for the day while we perched on the edges weeping silent tears of exhaustion.

Now all I can think about is a ham and cheese toastie.

mum41* terribly sorry of we put you off a bit by sounding all highbrow for a bit - I'm sure it won't happen again

Obama is a definite would for me, there is one other politician who is quite fit but my fried brain can't reach for the name...politics is barren ground for attractive specimens anyway - what about the world of ohhh football? Jose Mourinho - now there's yum yum.

jj good news on the playgroup

neddie there will be some painkillers you can safely take

jw lovely pic of K shelooks the pictureof heath again. Love her hair! Oh and yes I liked Dr Green also.

mrsboogie · 11/02/2009 10:02

haha tee you like Obama cos he looks nice and James Martin cos he looks bad - are you me?

johnworf · 11/02/2009 10:31

JJ great to hear there things are moving along with the speech therapy. I bet she'll only need a few sessions to give her the 'push' she needs then she'll be off

neddie that sounds really painful. How come there's 4 inch nails lying around ? Hope that the hobbling isn't too painful.

mum41 don't feel intimidated by us as there's no need. You don't need an Oxbridge education to eat cake, read the DM website and lust after unattainable men

Durmot Murnaghan is a def yes from me. And Terence Stamp is scrummy - even though he's getting on a bit. Still love Terry Wogan though ...the lady is not for turning

Ok mrsb do you have any sort of plan for what you are going to do next week when you're back in the office and he's playing up? Crying doesn't count I'm afraid All I can think and hope for your sake is that nursery will tire him out as will spoiling by grannie. The usual fair of fresh air, warm bath etc does sometimes work. Btw does he have a set bedtime routine? I have one for K and I'm not saying it's the be all and end all but it does comfort them knowing that 'this is way things will go now it's time for bed'.

Tee2072 · 11/02/2009 10:43

Me? Inconsistent? Never mrsb!!

My entire management team just headed out for a meeting. Hence I am on Mumsnet. Bad Tee, no cookie.

I cannot speak to footballers, as I know nothing about them. As for actors...the list is too long, what would y'all think of me.

mrsboogie · 11/02/2009 10:49

jw crying was my only plan I'm afraid..

We don't have a set bedtime routine apart from daddy comes home and plays with him for a bit, he gets fed, bathed , he gets tired and up he goes. Getting him off isn't the problem though, its the fact that he wakes and drinks two or three full bottles between midnight and 6am. Its ridiculous I know and more than he was waking when he was a newborn!

We have also discovered a slight drawback to the Amby although I am sure this is unique to D. He has begun to bounce his bottom up and down quite hard on the matress while asleep in order to make the bloody thing bounce. I realised last night as he would stop doing it if I bounced him but start again if I stopped. It's noisy and most disturbing when you are trying to sleep.

Anyway I must be getting desperate because it popped into my head this morning that my mother would not have stood for this and instead of faffing about with bits of mashed banana and avocado she would make a bowl of mashed potatoes and stuff it down him til he was fit to burst, thereby ensuring no need for night feeding. I am going to try this today. No more Mrs nice mummy!!

johnworf · 11/02/2009 11:01

I was going to say mrsb that perhaps a late afternoon meal or even tea time meal. Btw are you on the second stage milk? I know you will be but just checking.

Might be worth trying to get a bedtime routine going especially when he's been to nursery and to grans. Babies are funny creatures and like the same thing over and over. Think it comforts them

K is now on the Oilatum and some highly flammable skin cream from the docs. Great as it's free! I've been buying the Burt's Baby Bees bubble bath and it's £10 a pop Every little helps as they say..........on the subject of which (HEDGEPIG AVERT YOUR EYES NOW!) Viva La Diva has a 70% sale on at the mo.

MUM41plus5 · 11/02/2009 11:14

mrsb oh dear no sleep, I agree with jw hopefully all the people watching he will do at nursery and the fresh air and general being spoilt will wear him out, will also hopefully give him a big ole appetite too so eat more during the day hence sleeping longer at night
Ohhooooo with you there mrsb, Jose Mourinho, shame its bad vibes between him and the Russian owner of chelsea otherwise with the recent sacking of Scollari he may have been destined to return meaning much more british tv appearances, never mind, maybe England manager soon, I live in hope

ermintrude13 · 11/02/2009 11:17

JW I still use Oilatum for myself, hope it does the trick for baby K. I love aqueous cream - far too greasy for normal people but absorbs very fast into my parched pores - and I already buy it in cheap 500g tubs but now I'm up the duff I get it freeeeee.

Another v g bland moisturiser - without lanolin, which can make eczema flare up in some sufferes - is called Ultrabase. I use it as my usual moisturiser and have done since a lovely lady consultant prescribed it for me when I was 14. You can get it over the counter in tubs or tubes.

I don't have the option of using Clarins or Clinique as nearly everything brings me out in a rash, so I look on the bright side and realise how much money I'm saving by having such problematic skin ,

MUM41plus5 · 11/02/2009 11:26

jw I totally agree, its such now that if we aren't getting the boys ready for their night time routine by 6:30ish its almost as if they become instanly tired and grumbly as if to let us know, I do agree a routine with regards to certain things being done at specific times in a specific way is very comforting to most babies and children, sometimes though there just is no rhyme or reason to why they go through those little phases, they all pass and then we're on to worrying about the next thing
It's teething I'm concerened about now, my girls sailed through it, didn't cut a tooth till around 10 months, hoping the boys will be the same
Oh and potty training, dreading it, never had 2 at once and never had boys, going to be fun

mrsboogie · 11/02/2009 11:32

oooh 'eck - potty training two at once

errm jw no he's not on second stage milk? should he be? I thought they didn't go onto follow on milk until six months?

ohh you have reminded me - what's the gloopy stuff you put on baby either before his bath or in it (can't remember which) for eczema?
D's is being held at bay so far by some very sensitive boots moisturiser but he does have some dry patches on his tummy that could do with seeing off.

MUM41plus5 · 11/02/2009 11:48

mrsb are you formula feeding?
we put the boys onto stage 2 milk at around 4 months and then progressed to follow on milk at 6 months when they began to have three solid food meals a day.

jeanjeannie · 11/02/2009 12:26

mrsB Both my girls had a HUGE growth spurt around 4.5 mnths...up all night That's when I went through my awful time with Verity.
i agree...move onto the next stage - as at this age solids are less calorific that milk - so chances are he'll still wake. Go on - give the next stage milk a shot !

mum41 gosh sorry for sounding highbrow...I'm really quite 'fluffy' I write about fashion, beauty and hair....no brains required Hahaha I'll fight yer for Dermot Murnaghan....MMmmmm, helllloooooo!

Verity has suddenly developed nasty eczema - so it's lashings of oat baths and oilatum for us too. I think it's also the dry air and layers of clothes....mixed in with folds of baby fat!

My mate in Dubai text me the other day to say that she was watching Jose Mourinho from her balcony with her binoculars as the Milan team train in the stadium opposite her house - she was thrilled! Oh and the credit crunch has arrived in the Middle East - loads of folk being laid off at her publishing company

News from Dubai! Sorry but had to share this random email I've just found in my inbox from my bessie mate (the one who watches men from her balcony)

JJ find out quickly, did he slip her the tongue?

MUM41plus5 · 11/02/2009 12:45

jeannie ermintrude oh it does make me chuckle, popping in now and then and seing some of the postings

johnworf · 11/02/2009 13:06

I think Frankie looks like he'd be a filthy beast in bed He's got that italian twinkle in his eye.

As for the eczema, well I've got eczema so good chance I guess that K will get it although none of my older ones have had it (very bad asthma though for DS#1 which he's outgrown).

mrsb I meant the second stage milk but not the follow on milk. i.e. SMA does gold cap for 1 stage and white for 2nd. We're on Nutriprem 2 now after NP1 etc etc.

K has just had some banana custard and I must have misread the jar as judging by the look on her face, it was dog poo flavour I thought Hipp stuff was supposed to be nice but dunno. This wasn't around when I had my older ones.
