Come join our merry (talkative) band of ladies who lunch - feel sick - are getting fatter - sleep deprived or run off their feet with babies! Some of us suffer all of the above - while trying to retain an air of calm and mystery

All we ask is you play nicely, eat cake and indulge in the occasional gossip and moan about our ills....or anything else that we can think of.

We're like grumpy old women....only not so grumpy...

Neddie · 09/02/2009 20:09

jeanjeannie yes do not encourage her- my parents eventually gave up on not letting me have a pony by the time I was 15. It becomes an obsession and makes you poor and have hands like a roadmender. However, I cry every time I see the video where my orphan foal (now 16.1hh snowy white stallion)wins his first competition. This year he had his first child (a daughter)which was bred from another homebred mare- she's so beautiful. In the Spring and Summer it's lovely watching the babies pop out. I seem to have trained the mares to produce when I arrive, 3 of the 4 this year saw me drive in and promptly went into labour.

Tee2072 · 09/02/2009 20:22

neddie I insist on pictures as soon as the horse babies are born! (I know nothing about horses, but I think they aren't actually called horse babies!)

jeanjeannie · 09/02/2009 20:23

jw OMG CLOTH KITS...it's still going [rush of nostalgia emoticon] When I were a nipper I was the belle of the school with my rust coloured, fine needle cord skirt with a black geometric border print. Oh, rock on 1973!

neddie Ah - I loved riding as a kid. I went to St Leonards riding school and would spend the weekend helping out to get a few freebies. I went a few years ago after about a decade of not being near one - and woah - I felt so high up and so unsure that I would still bounce if I fell off! Like your ability to get them to pop when you arrive....you should think about being a doula

Watching University Challenge - can get that

hedgepig · 09/02/2009 20:31

Uni Challenge is very educational JJ much better for the mind than corrie, Tis a pity Ladymacs boy got knocked out as we could all cheer him along.

Neddie what do you breed horses for? I mean racing or show jumping etc I must admit I am totally petrified of horses, it is the teeth I think they would easily have your arm off without much bother. So my parenys got away very cheaply there.

Love the cloth kits JW I am tempted but I am refusing to buy new clothes until I am thinner which could be a very long time the way I am going.

jeanjeannie · 09/02/2009 20:34

jw am LOVING the birdie stuff! Am also laughing away at the adult stuff - as they've got a skirt with a picture of the Trellick Tower which is a landmark in London that I used to live right by for many a year - loved and loathed in equal measure! Funniest thing on a item of clothing I've seen for ages!

hedgepig · 09/02/2009 20:42

Oooooo ((excited emoction)) have you seen the dolls JJ ??

Right that's it I am going to make a girl baby hedgepig so I can make them wear embarrassing clothes I have lovingly crafted and have rag dollies , oh DH it's your lucky night

MUM41plus5 · 09/02/2009 20:51

Good evening to you all

Neddie what can I say and yes I agree would be lovely to see pics

JJ I can think of something to do on those tv less nights too, but then, maybe not, thats what got us all here in the first place
Oh I think hedgepig has the same idea and I'm guessing there's not even a lack of tv in your house

Me I'm just waiting for Whitechapel to begin, hope I can stay awake, usually nod off by 9:00pm

ermintrude13 · 09/02/2009 21:02

Noooo, not clothkits! My mum used to make a lot of our clothes and I remember the age at which I began to long for shop-bought. As well as the clothkit babycord dirndl type things she often made matching outfits for me and my 2 nearest in age sisters out of your classic 1970's prints, and and I used to shuffle along at the back feeling like the black sheep of the Von Trapp family.

johnworf · 09/02/2009 21:17

hehe. Glad you lot are having a nosey at the cloth kits although I think it's had a big effect on hedgepig as she's now gone off to make a girl hedgepig baby so she can sew some dollies for it Is that some bed springs I can hear?

mrsb how did master D fair on his first day at big school? Are you a jibbering wreck or did you manage to hold it together until the LO got home, embrace him like the prodigal and swear never, ever, for him to leave you again?

I've just finished having a big shout (quietly of course as the children are asleep) at DH as he's not yet got his finger out of his arse and started pulling his weight around the house - I now have visions of DH pulling himself around the house with his finger up his bum Anyhoo, he's agreed to my T & C's so far so lets just see if he walks the walk as well.

Caught Uni Challenge with my darling Jeremy up there shouting at them all. Real norf/sarf divide today.

Hurrah! All snow has gone here and it was raining here today.

mrsb I've found another website which I've purchased just a couple of items in their sale bit (oooh the special things) and it's here. Now, go canny girl There's some nice maternity clothes on here too but they are £££££££££ ! Not that I'll be needing them of course.

No room for ponies in my garden although we were looking at getting some rescued battery chickens.

johnworf · 09/02/2009 21:18

Errr no sure about the Tower Skirt JJ. Bit too bold for me.

Tee2072 · 09/02/2009 21:29

So glad I've never before heard of or seen cloth kits. I think I am scarred for life.

mrsboogie · 09/02/2009 21:35

evening/morning all (as the case may be)

560 posts? 560? did we not start this thread about 2 days ago? MN are going to kick us off for taking up too much space and we will have to get our own server at this rate.

We have had no broadband or tv in York this aft as Virgin has had some sort of crash - back now and I must say reading your posts has cheered me up. Although I have decided that if I am away from this thread for more than a couple of hours in future I am going to make use of a notebook and pencil as I forget half of what has been said by the time I get to the end.

After blubbing pathetically for 2 hrs this morning I pulled myself together and went into town for some 3d lashes (lash extensions for the less shallow/financially feckless among us) a expensive and silly business but since I haven't regained my ahem figure yet I thought they might make me feel a bit better going back to mwork. They do look nice if I say so myself.

Then went to fetch Mr D from nursery where predictably all was well and he had been fine and had very much enjoyed, they told me, watching all the "big" babies thundering around him all day.

hmm what else - neddie cool job indeed and my hat off to you for your perseverance. The only thing I know about horses is that they are beautiful and smell a bit.

tee sorry to hear you are feeling a bit off - I suggest that you purchase some nice flip flops as this is all you will be wearing once the weather gets warmer.

Tee2072 · 09/02/2009 21:40

Then I really have a problem mrsb. I hate flip flops!

Guess I'll have to quit my job and go shoeless!

johnworf · 09/02/2009 21:55

Ahhhhhhhhhhh glad all is well with young Mr D mrsb. You're allowed to cry btw.

We've obviously had a good day on here today and getting all of our chat in this week before the children break up on Friday for half term - well they do in my neck of the woods anyway.

I like the sound of your eyelash extensions btw. In theory, like nail extensions, lovely things to have and enhance. In reality, for me anyway, last a matter of hours. I have navvies hands, coarse, cracked, rough and large. So my nail extensions just make me look like a drag queen. K has found out that pulling my hair and yanking my specs off is a fab game so I'm only guessing what the entertainment value of pulling false eyelashes out would be (I'm thinking warp factor).

tee flip flops are part of the uniform of a mum, especially a new mum. Coupled with leggings and a baggy top with a bit of sick down the front (this can be interchanged with food stains). Top off nicely with chipped toe nail polish and your outfit is complete.

mrsboogie · 09/02/2009 22:25

gawd tee I don't know what I would have done without my flip flops last summer - (sported with leggings and baggy tops as described by jw ) mind you, unless there have been some serious miscalculations, you won't be pregnant in the height of an August heatwave so all is not lost on the feet front

Cheers for the website jw. will peruse at leisure tomorrow -and will send to OH's work address so he can admire the jellycats and suchlike as he likes these greatly.

jeanjeannie · 09/02/2009 22:35

mrsB so pleased all went well....and he had a lovely time watching all the other children Yes, you really are allowed to cry - and not just over MR D...anything at all....it's a Mummy's perogative!

jw pleased you told DH what's what - I'm expecting you to report back on him doing the chores very shortly

ermintrude what a picture you paint of 70s sartorial elegance ala Sound of Music style..."My name's Ermintrude. I'm seven and I'm impossible," she declared in her needle-cord pinny and leg-O-Mutton sleeved top

tee yes, talking of sartorial elegance....any that you may have now will fly out of the window once le Baby is here. And eau d' posset is an aroma often found around the shoulder - it complements the sick stains. I found just managing to get dressed an achievement

Well, TV still weird....saw Fiona Bruce and her ancestors have the same name as mine and come from a place very close by - ah, I knew it - we must be related. Those long slim legs, sleek bone structure, striking good looks

Night Night....hedgepig Shhhh, I can hear you playing bed trampoline from here

BonzoDoodah · 09/02/2009 23:55

[bounces back] CLOTHKITS - we lived in clothkits stuff as kids. Some of it was sooooooooooo cute.

Not been on here over the weekend as been having MAJOR trauma. Our house backs onto a lovely tree-lined railway embankment. On Saturday a chainsaw gang arrived and started chopping ALL the trees to the ground! No explanation, warning or anything. Cut a long story short we ended up doing a sort of chain yourself to the tree protest and managed to save some of them. (Got the Manchester paper along - may be in it tomorrow) and British Transport police (threatening £1000 fines each) and real police and Network Rail representatives and everything. Exhausting but we think we've saved them. Look at my pictures for the view looking right from the end of the garden at what they've done compared with how it was-ish. Vandalism. Still all churned up and keep checking outside at the slightest of noises to see if they've sneaked back to finish them off.

Tee2072 · 10/02/2009 07:47

Sorry bonzo!! My excuse is baby brain!

Oh no about your trees. How awful. I would have joined your protest!

Yeah, I kind of figured my 'look' would go to sandals, leggings, floppy shirts and food stains in about 4 months. But it still won't be flip flops, I can't stand anything between my toes!!

Oh and if I am still pregnant in August? It will be in Guinness Book of World Records...and I'll murder someone.

Neddie · 10/02/2009 08:04

Tee I know what you mean about the longevity of pregnancy. It's only been 8 weeks and I am fed up. I'm sure I didn't feel so grotty the last time.I just threw up and carried on working.Speaking of which I must go and poke my head in. My other business is fabrics funnily enough (re-clothkits)my profile picture is taken in the store. I am moving my business to e-bay more and more so that I can have more free time. Ha ha.

Neddie · 10/02/2009 08:10

Blue skies and calmness (but coldness) here

Sorry bonzo that we missed you off the list. Hopefully you are there on the revised version that jj has just posted.

neddie I have a website and a shop on ebay. Ebay is getting ridiculous. The fees are now humongous! Plus as a seller you can't leave negative feedback and Paypal is a joke. Other than that, it's fine

Talking of business, had a conflab with DH (amidst me bollocking him) that I'm thinking of shutting down my business. I'm just thinking ahead to when K is walking and needs me more and more and I'm gonna have one foot in the office, snatching moments here and there, or she's missing out on me. It's a biggy and still in the talks stage. Don't want to give it up as it does earn but I have to think about what is more important.

JJ nothing to report back. You can't teach an old dog new tricks comes to mind. He's promised to help more, but always does. Anyway, I've said I'll concentrate on the children/house etc if the business closes down but the onus is solely upon him to earn a crust for us all. Hence we're still talking about it.

I'm thinking of taking myself out today, possibly to Ikea for a wander, a splurge and a general get some air/cheer myself up kind of trip. Will have to see how the orders lie and take it from there.

bonzo I'd be really upset about the trees too. I love trees. We have lots of trees in our garden, but actually had one chopped down professionally last year as there was no light in the garden. I'll post a pic, and by the time you read this paragraph, it might actually be there
