Have had opportunities to be told the sex of my baby but both DH and I agree that we want it to be a surprise. I still love guessing though, and I always ask others what they think. I'm 32 weeks now and I'd love to hear your old wives' tales or "definite signs" of gender. Come on, how can I tell?
TIA

Hello?

Come on, girls! What do you think?

dinny · 05/01/2009 19:54

oooh, CQ, you must be due near when I am (7th March) - I don't know whether mine is a girl or boy but keep trying to guess!

here are the old wives' tales I know...

carrying high = girl
putting on loads of weight = girl
fast HR (baby) = girl

um.....

2manychips · 05/01/2009 19:57

leg hair growth slows right down/stops- girl!

dinny · 05/01/2009 19:58

OMG - I wa just thinking today that I haven't shaved my legs for AGES......

2manychips · 05/01/2009 20:03

Ha! I'm gonna keep an eye out for your updates now!

surprisenumber3 · 05/01/2009 20:18

oooh - I have noticed the hairless leg thing too - and I am usually a hairy monster!!

Am 25 weeks with 3rd and never noticed it before and have 2 DS's!

mogwai · 05/01/2009 20:26

I think the faster heartrate thing is actually true according to midwives. Was certainly true for my DD but then it was a 50% chance anyway I suppose!

lilimama · 05/01/2009 20:31

i had all of the aboe re hairless legs/weight gain etc and had a real boy of a boy.

crackerqueen · 05/01/2009 20:55

Thanks All!

Hmmm! If the leg hair one's true...
I love this guessing!
dinny - I'm due end of Feb. Are you carrying high/have you put on lotsa weight/Is your LO's heartbeat fast?
At 23 weeks my LO's heart rate was 156bph. Is that fast?
If your bump starts just under your bra line, is that high?

Anyone - have you heard the one about having the same as your Mum's first child if you're the youngest daughter?

OP posts:
dinny · 05/01/2009 21:12

CQ - this is my third baby and with my other two I was totally wrong both times! convinced dd was a boy and that ds was a girl, lol

yes, under bra line is high

anything over 140 HR is supposedly a girl

but, as I said, I am a rubbish guesser!

dinny · 05/01/2009 21:13

I'm carrying lower than my other two actually

but that could be a tummy muscles issue!

chipmonkey · 05/01/2009 21:39

Hi Mogwai! Long time no see!

I dont know what having...
I think its a boy but its a pure guess!!
My leg hair has gone wild, Not put on much weight, Got small bump which is v low, Don't eat masses, ..(Alot of growing to do im 26wk 2day) Baby very wriggly, No sickness, no cravings... Dont know if all that means anything or nothing!!!!

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 06/01/2009 12:14

OOh love this. I am due in 10wks and we dont know what it is. Here are my symptoms:

no actual sickness but some nausea
no massive wt gain- so far
bump all out at the front - dont look PG from behind
slowed leg hair growth
hair less greasy- can go 2 days without washing easily when its usually a daily job
baby wriggles a lot (but since its my 1st I cant know if its normal or excessive!

I've had instinct that its a boy from the start but have felt less sure of this recently.

Will be watching this thread- when is everyone due?

MrsMattie · 06/01/2009 12:18

With me

moderate sickness
huge appetite, especially for sweet things and dairy
carried very large, round and high

= boy

hypermeisis
reduced appetite, but craved salty, savoury food
carried smaller, neat and low

= girl

Also, that Chinese gender predictor thing worked for me! Dont know if anyone has a link to it?

Of course, it's all bollocks really

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 06/01/2009 12:22

LOL defiantely bollocks but good fun anyway!

crackerqueen · 06/01/2009 13:10

GYo - If the old wives are to be believed, then you might just be carrying a boy?!?

ThePregnantHedgeWitch - you had the urge to paint your toenails bright pink? That's hysterical!
Got another scan this week. Worried I might see a little diddle or the obvious absence of one by accident.
This guessing is just too much fun!
My OBS says that 53% of live births are boys, 47% girls.

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 06/01/2009 13:33

How many weeks are you Cracker?

I've got a 4D scan this week, so really nervous about any bits being revealed tho they assure me they wont unless we ask!
Lots of people have said a boy to me based on no fact at all! My most recent feeling is that its a girl.... but again no basis!

would be handy as the search for names is impossible when we cant agree on anything male or female at the moment!

crackerqueen · 06/01/2009 17:20

Gyo - I'm 32 weeks. Bit fed up today. Colleagues going on about how "massive" my baby is. Was very small pre-pregnancy and had to endure "You're so skinny" remarks. Can't win!
Enjoy your 4D! They are amazing! Names are sooo tricky, DH and I have tried "baby names" sites.

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 06/01/2009 17:39

Some people are so rude having opinions re size of bump, suppose if you are naturally slim any bump looks out of proportion.

Though personally I'd rather be that that so wide no one can tell that I'm pregnant!

Hopefully you will be on Mat leave when you get proper big at the end?

crackerqueen · 06/01/2009 18:19

Thanks GYo, I've only got a few more days at work before that wonderful leave begins! I spose I'd better get used to others voicing their opinions on me and my baby.

Oh and don't worry about spotting gender on the 4D, sonographer can crop image you see to protect LO's modesty or ask you to look away!

OP posts:
wasabipeanut · 07/01/2009 13:32

The heart rate thing is apparently one of the more reliable indicators of gender. My ds was fairly consistently 140.

I am personally convinced about the hair growth/non growth thing. A poll of my NCT group when we were all coming up to the end revealed mainly accurate predictions on this basis (2 out of 6 already knew adminttedly).

Not only did my hair get thicker and darker with ds it grew loads. And I got a hairy tummy.

EsmeWeatherwax · 07/01/2009 13:46

I'm not so sure about the hair thing, I had a girl last time, and am having one this time too, and my...er...ladygarden is almost able to go in a ponytail... has been same both times. I'm not normally a hairy person at all, but looking quite hirsute.

Very very sick with both girls though, and both carrying very high and out front, my enormous belly is actually making the rest of me look thinner than before I was pg! (only 25 weeks too!)

samshepp · 07/01/2009 13:58

Hi...i was pretty neat in front with my daughter and kinda like a tyre with my boy...morning sickness with girl and not boy and with my boy my sex drive was through the roof...disappeared with my girl!
