Have had opportunities to be told the sex of my baby but both DH and I agree that we want it to be a surprise. I still love guessing though, and I always ask others what they think. I'm 32 weeks now and I'd love to hear your old wives' tales or "definite signs" of gender. Come on, how can I tell?
TIA

My leg hair virtually stopped growing when I was pg with ds. I am now 38 wks, don't know what flavour dc will be, but again, I have about 5 leg hairs in total!

CoteDAzur · 21/01/2009 11:53

Two signs I've seen proven every time:

Fetal heart rate ~160 bpm >> girl
Fetal heart rate ~130 bpm >> boy

Round, all around tummy >> girl
Pointy tummy just in front >> boy

Sunflower100 · 21/01/2009 12:25

Isn't the baby's heart rate linked to your own? With dd had slow heart rate and carried all in front and had very strong dark line up tummy

CoteDAzur · 21/01/2009 12:31

No baby's heart rate is not linked to your own. Normal adult heart rate at rest is about 70-80 bpm, while embryo/fetus has a heartrate almost double that, at about 130-170 bpm.

MrsMattie here's the link to the chinese predictor

www.eparenting.co.uk/pandb/chinesegenderpredictor.shtml

mine says im having a girl! we will see lol

Poppet45 · 21/01/2009 18:25

Ooooh that predictor says I'm having a boy, which I've always felt I might be having, but then that might be because I always thought I'd have a son first even before I was preggers.
Not sure if the hairiness has increased, it might even be less, had very mild gentle first trimester - so I'm having a sweetie whatever the sex - and I've been much jollier and less haridan like than usual. What does that mean?
I've got my first scan tomorrow (13 weeks) will i hear the heartbeat/see the heartrate then?

crackerqueen · 25/01/2009 20:51

Hi Poppet, yes the sonographer switches to microphone mode or something and you will be able to hear the heartbeat and find out how many BPM it is. Its sounds amazing!

Bought an Avent bottle and steriliser set and it has one of those Beaker type cups for later in it. They come in pink or blue, you can't choose, and we were sent a pink one. Is this a sign?!

Anyone else got any old wives' tales or gender prediction tips? This is fun!

I was in hospital for 7 weeks being monitored every day and the heartrate thing doesn't work. My ds's varied between 125 and 160 and we tried to guess if the others were having a girl or boy by the heart rate but it wasn't often right.
I carried both my ds and dd the same, sort of wrapped around as I have very strong stomach muscles which held the baby in

tsom · 25/01/2009 22:17

have ds1 and 2, thought ds1 would be a boy, just gut instinct, convinced myself that ds2 would be a girl based on less leg hair but obviously wrong. However, am 31 weeks with dc3 and my leg hair has definitely nearly stopped this time... a girl maybe . Bump the same as before though - all at the front and round.
Glad I haven't found out the gender on scan, much more fun to aimlessly speculate

mummy2joshuarileyandbump · 25/01/2009 22:19

I have 2 DS and had no sickness or craving, but this time round I have had both. I know the pickled stuff is just a myth but I seriously have been craving pickled onions...went and bought 2 jars earlier after polishing a whole one off last nite!
Fingers crossed this will be a girl for me, Chinese gender predictor says a girl, but i think i am destined to live in a house full of males lol
It is fun trying to guess tho isnt it. I cant wait til this LO arrives so will be going for a sexing scan (they dont tell you at my local hospital

frazzledoldbag · 25/01/2009 22:36

Girls (x2) - carbs, fruit, crisps, Rice Crispies, no sex drive what so ever
Boy - Curry, chocolate, fizzy sweets, went off crisps, high sex drive
(apparently the sex thing is due to more testosterone from the baby boy??)
Also have a pointier bump with the boy.
Heart rate prediction would have said he was a girl though.
Also the Chinese predictor said DD2 was a boy.

I always go with my gut instinct. With DS1 I found myself (unconciously) looking at boys things in shops (before I knew it was a boy) - never done that before!

wzmo · 26/01/2009 01:44

i always thought that with girls you didn't gain loads and with boys your bottom got bigger?!?! had a girl first time and gained most in the huge belly!! this time we are guessing again, i love this part!!!

mrsbabookaloo · 26/01/2009 16:12

This thread has got me all silly...it seems that if you crave crisps, it's a girl and if you don't, it's a boy.

I ate so many hula hoops first time round with dd, and this time I can't stand the smell of crisps at all....could this mean it's a boy?! I'm finding out on Feb 13th....

Anybody want to add stories of crisp-loving/hating and subsequent girls/boys so we can prove or disprove this theory?

It's all very scientific, you know!

minxi · 26/01/2009 16:27

I've eaten loads of hula hoops this time round ?! never normally eat them!

Does anyone know the needle on a thread over tummy theory - mine goes round and round but can't remember what that means and also if it works... I am due in 5 weeks and have 2 DS at the mo!!

frazzledoldbag · 26/01/2009 19:16

minxi - if it goes in a circle it means girl (I believe!)
Also I'd say with your penchant for hula hoops it sounds like a girl to me! Do let us know won't you?

HairyToe · 26/01/2009 21:29

hate to buck trend but i craved cake and chocolate with both dds. This pregnancy have been stuffing down olives, tomatoes and crisps - found out today its a boy. Also have gone off tea and alcohol this time - didn't with the others.

Wiltedrose · 27/01/2009 20:18

I'm convinced I'm having a boy, had a girl last time, this is what I think is different and hence why it's a boy....

I am carrying high this time but carried dd low - so not sure about the high/low thing.

Hair definitely lankier than last time. Just been for a leg wax at the weekend - but was long overdue so not sure about that one either.

Feeling loooaaads better than I did last time around.

Want to eat sweet stuff all the time - with dd it was Marmite and fish fingers (not together).

not very reliable is it?

Mnweiri · 14/01/2021 12:57

I did a 14 week gender scan and they said 100 percent boy. But could it still be the nub as girl or boys bits look similar? But it did look like a boy but dont want to promise myself!
