Pregnancy

Talk about every stage of pregnancy, from early symptoms to preparing for birth.

OK here's my theory re late/early babies. If you're fat you'll be late, if you're skinny you'll be early.

I was ten days late and put on loads of weight. My theory is that the baby's nice and snug with all that padding and doesn't want to come out. Babies with skinny mums can't wait to get out.

Oh and please take this in the light-hearted way it's intended, I'm currently 8 weeks and suffering with bad morning sickness so be nice!

worked that way for me. I put on 3 stone each time and each time the baby had to be hauled out.

Flightattendant7 · 05/01/2009 12:05

Well...

(you gotta think about something when you're feeling like crap!!)

Ds1 was 5 days early and I had put on about a stone. I was tiny. He was tiny. As soon as he was out, he slung a grappling hook onto the 98th centile and scrambled up there within a week or so, stayed there ever since!

Ds2 was on time, I put on about 2 stone, he was 8lb10 i think.

bronze · 05/01/2009 12:06

hmm nice try

I was an 8 (sometimes 10) pre ds1. He was six days over.

I was only a 10/12 with ds2 and he was also 6 days over.

Ont he other hand dd was 3 months early and I was a 10 straight after birth

MrsBadger · 05/01/2009 12:07

I was skinny

dd was early

fishie · 05/01/2009 12:09

i was fat. ds due date but did not come out by himself.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 05/01/2009 12:11

Put on four stone with each pregnancy, both babies early, sorry.

Haylstones · 05/01/2009 12:12

I was skinny with dd
I was fat with ds
Both born on due dates
(thankfully am fat no longer but no more dc planned )

Grammaticus · 05/01/2009 12:12

Skinny. Late. Sorry!

madrose · 05/01/2009 12:14

i was skinny before dd, but was massive when pregnant, All tummy - but it was massive, dd was 15 days late and had to be dragged out!!!

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 05/01/2009 12:14
  • nah didn't work for me - I was skinny when I fell pg with DS1 - but very fat by the end (I put on 5 stone ) and he was 2 weeks early, slightly overweight when I was pg with DS2 (didn't put on nearly as much weight) and he was a few days early. Skinny(ish) with DS3 and he was about 2 weeks early.

I'm such a short arse, and my babies so long that they get fed up being squashed up and want to get out (so my theory is that if you're tall you'll be late -as they're comfortable in there because there's more space, and if you're short you'll be early )

Picante · 05/01/2009 12:18

Ah you may be onto something there FAQ. I feel a line graph coming on....

Maybe fat and tall (like me) = definitely late?

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 05/01/2009 12:21

well DS3 was my earliest baby (actually closer to the 3 weeks early) and I was still short (obviously ), but also the skinniest i've been when pg......

MrsTittleMouse · 05/01/2009 12:21

I'm not skinny (sadly) but one DD was on time and the other was early. I put on more weight with the early one too (2 stone cf 1.5).
Sorry!

robinia · 05/01/2009 12:22

On the large size (certainly put on heaps of weight in pregnancy) ..... all early .... between 2 months and 1 day.

NCBirdy · 05/01/2009 12:24

I was skinny for all and some were early, some were late - so tick and cross here

Congratulations BTW, sorry you are suffering!

Egg · 05/01/2009 12:27

Skinny with DS1 - 2 days early
Skinnier with DTs - 3 weeks early, but not v early really for twins

Khara · 05/01/2009 12:56

Doesn't work here! I'm overweight (ok fat) and all three of mine were a few days early.

BalloonSlayer · 05/01/2009 13:01

I am was skinny. Only put on bump weight with DS1 (as lighter than pre-preg a couple of weeks after birth).

He was nearly 2 weeks late.

Sorrreee...

CatIsSleepy · 05/01/2009 13:06

dd was a week early, i didn't put on that much weight i don't think though actually didn't get weighed during my pregnancy and don't own any scales...

this time-out of curiosity i weighed myself at my last midwives appt at 27 weeks
had put on 5kg or so

does that mean this one will be early too?

am starting my mat leave a whole month before my due date (yahoo!!) so that's fine by me...

mistlethrush · 05/01/2009 13:06

No, doesn't work for me either - reasonably tall (5'8) too large - particularly with bump - ds was a week early and 10lb5oz...

Fat. Average height. Both late.

PinkPoinsettias · 05/01/2009 13:11

i was 55 kgs getting preg with dd, put on about 20 kgs and she was 4 days early

i was 70 kgs getting preg with ds (see how much of dd's baby weight i lost? ) was close to 90 by the end and although i was officially 2 weeks early that was based on a scan at 20 weeks which i disputed the whole way through.... am personally convinced he was overdue by at least a week

i was 65 kgs getting preg this time, am now 75 so will report back whenever lo makes an appearance

SpangleMaker · 05/01/2009 13:14

Friend is skinny and currently 9 days late.

Another friend more 'padded' and 10 days early.

Sorry!

PinkPoinsettias · 05/01/2009 13:15

i'm tall (5'9) but have a freakishly short torso for my height... i have the same length legs as my 6'4 father and yet when i sit next to my 5'4 mother she looks taller than me

my babies are definitely squashed in there... i spend from 6 months on with feet lodged in my ribs every time
