Pregnancy

Talk about every stage of pregnancy, from early symptoms to preparing for birth.

OK here's my theory re late/early babies. If you're fat you'll be late, if you're skinny you'll be early.

I was ten days late and put on loads of weight. My theory is that the baby's nice and snug with all that padding and doesn't want to come out. Babies with skinny mums can't wait to get out.

Oh and please take this in the light-hearted way it's intended, I'm currently 8 weeks and suffering with bad morning sickness so be nice!

Tall and fat here = 3 overdue babies by at least 10 days

lizziemun · 05/01/2009 13:27

Short and fat dd1 one week early, dd2 one week late induced.

I weighed the same for both pregnancies.

joyfuleyes · 05/01/2009 13:30

Nope I've been fat in all pregnancies & never made it past 38 weeks

My two three very slim best friends have all gone to 42 weeks (and further).

IAmTheNewQueenOfMN · 05/01/2009 13:31

skinny before pregnancy, huge during, all 3 of them about on their due date

beckmo · 05/01/2009 13:42

Skinny (then) and 14 days late and had to be induced. I have been trying an opposite theory to yours with this pregnancy and eating for England to see if the extra weight will push the baby out on time.

peppapighastakenovermylife · 05/01/2009 14:14

Lol - hyperemesis both times - half a stone more at term at most. DS was a week early and 7.5 pounds, DD 3 days late and 8.12 pounds.

Lovely idea though lol! Am going to apply it to breastfeeding - DD feeds all the time cos my boobs are sooo massive and cuddly right now!

Picante · 05/01/2009 14:20

Oh flippin heck none of my theories are working.

Not sure about this one.

I am not skinny but back then not really fat either (size 14). Only put on 16lb with DS1 and 18lb with DS2. DS1 arrived on his due date and 6lb 10oz. DS2 was 6 days early and 9lb.

Work it out for yourself cos I am confused!

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 05/01/2009 14:22

i am was fat, and DD was 4 weeks early!

endymion · 05/01/2009 14:23

With dd I was huge - put on about 4 stone when pregnant. She was born on her due date.

With ds I was comparatively lean. He was a week late.

nannyogg · 05/01/2009 14:26

I was big, DD was early..

BUT

She was breech, so maybe she wasn't that comfy - could you expand your theory in order to address this possibilty? Hmm hmm?

Peapodlovescuddles · 05/01/2009 14:27

I'm a scrawny midget who struggles to fill a size 6 half the time, all my pregnancies (of which there have been many) have been 8month affairs resulting in perfectly healthy 4lb babies...
Maybe there is truth in your theory

weblette · 05/01/2009 14:28

My weight has been bang on target for all of mine and the last three appeared exactly on their due dates

Picante · 05/01/2009 14:31

Aha Weblette - so you'd be on the x=y line.

Me-very skinny
dd-late and induced!

iwouldgoouttonight · 05/01/2009 14:46

My theory is the more exercise you the more likely the baby will be early (and possibly more likely you'll be skinny). With DS1 I was walking and cycling loads right up to the end and he was a week early. With this one I'm now 39 weeks and have been doing much less (just sitting about and eating a lot over Christmas!) so I am less skinny and no sign of any baby yet!

LiffeyAnnaLivia · 06/01/2009 18:12

My BMI is about 24, it was 22 pre babies and both mine were early. I have my own theory. People in their late 30s who are short have their baby a bit early.

boogeek · 06/01/2009 18:14

Skinny both times: DD1 18 days overdue, DD2 7 days over. (Did loads of exercise with 1 but not with 2)
Am shortish, but was early 30s not late 30s

I am slightly overweight and DS was 4 days late
My slim friend's baby was 6 days early (they had the same due date, so are 10 days apart)

modernart · 06/01/2009 18:21

My theory is that it's to do with cycle length - longer cycles = later babies and short cycles = early births

LoveActually · 06/01/2009 18:21

Hmmm, I was skinny pre pg baby and have put on three stone but no way am I fat. Baby is due any day now, so not early!

pucca · 06/01/2009 18:25

I am fat,- dd was 6 days early, i was even fatter - ds 2 weeks early.

So not right for me

Normally a size 10 & put on 2 stone with DS1 & just under 2 stone with DS2. Never looked very big when pregnant. DS1 came on his due date & DS2 was a week & a day early.
