The old thread was getting impossibly slow on my computer, so decided that it was time to create a new one with hopefully Rah and Ready joining us, and with a whole new due date list.....

so MrsM, Momwi - come and start the list and hopefully Rah and Ready will come here now too!!!!!

I am so excited that the temp buddies are back together again, can you tell?!?!?!?

Yup, its definately the pox! Its started off OK and I thought he was going to get it really mildly, but ist in full flow now... He's not been too ill with it thought its just obviously bugging him. The spots are all over the place, if I run my hands through his hait its just covered in bumps and the back of his nexk is particularly bad - but at least he's not properly poorly. The little tinker wouldn't sleep last night though and finally gave in at 4am - I then wokr at 6.30 as I was meant to be travelling to London with work (which I then cancelled!!), so I feel like crap too today!! I dont do tired that well anymore since the kids aren't babies anymore . The funny thing was that he wasn't that upset, he just wanted to play and watch bob the builder (kept saying builder - fix it!!!!)...

Aaaragh, there he is again waking up... Bugger... Am so behind on my work but have no chances to catch up.

Whats the news on Dex Honey - hand foot and mouth is pretty grim - its makes them so miserable. Theo had mouth thrush but only as a baby - I had some gel to put in his mouth - am sure called daktarin??? Although I think thats something for feet isn't it????

Right, better go and see my spotty man

greedygreedyguzzler · 17/07/2009 13:34

poor little thing chooster...him, not you! i guess your tiredness accounts for your terrible typing in that last post!!!

rainbowdays · 17/07/2009 13:42

Hi all,

Honey - hope Dex is doing ok?

Chooster - horrible chicken pox, but to be honest you sound tired!!! Not sure how a person can "sound" tired from a piece of text, but you do! Hope today is easier and that you are not on bob-the-builder overload!

Greedy - how exciting about your sister being soon to pop!

Ready - great to chat!

As for me, today I got a phone call offering me a job for 6 months. With both myself and dh currently unemployed I am not sure if I can turn it down. Jobs in my field of work are very rare, but it is two hours away. Not sure if I could cope with 4 hours of driving a day for 6 months, and hate the thought of living away from home for any length of time, I love being with dh and the kids. Oh the dilema. What should I do?
At the moment I have said that I could do August, but that after that childcare issues might be a problem. She then said the department would have NO staff for the first two weeks of September due to member of staff out on maternity leave and another staff member specially requesting time off as her daughter starts school then. I then found myself agreeing to doing the first two weeks of september as well as august - Duh - doesn't my daughter have her first days at school then too!!!!!! What should I do?

OP posts:
honeyapple · 17/07/2009 14:20

rainbow- oh dear that doesnt sound an easy decision- how much do you need the job? Is it worth it after all the driving and missing your kids? However it isn't for that long- so maybe you could manage? To me it sounds like TOO far away . Are you still hoping to have DC4?

How is Ready?

Dex is a bit better today- Dr said 'non-specific viral' (grrr) so nothing to be done- although one of his ears was red so hope that doesnt get worse. Lots of cuddles and lollies. So it's not thrush and probably not HFM.

greedy- very jealous of the imminent arrival of your niece/nephew . Do they know the sex?

fettle · 18/07/2009 19:54

Hello all

still no news from ready. When is the next full
moon?

Honey. How is dex? Non specific viral is a cop out from drs meaning we dont know what is wrong!!!

Chooster. How is theo? I'm not sure if I was lucky but both mine had it really mildly. Hoping thy don't get it again bit then mum says that we all had it pretty mildly too so maybe it is a genetic thing. Hope you get some
rest.

I'm annoyed though to have my 4th bout of tinsilitis ir the year. Milder than before so far but still really sore! Def think I'm going to get swine flu if it comes by as my immune system seems shot at mo.

Rainbow. Tough decision. I commuted 45miles to work for best part of 2 years with DD in car as she was in nursery near work. Also commuted bout 40mins
for 2 years either side of that too. Was v pleased to
go mat leave with toby and can't imagine driving that far to work anymore. It was really hard particularly in the winter months. However if u need the job it is only for 6 months and I'm sure you will cope however hard it will be.

Right at my sisters on my phone so it hard to type so beat go. Take care all

ready?

rainbowdays · 22/07/2009 22:50

Ready - just in case you check in here before tomorrow, I hope that all goes smoothly for you tomorrow if induction is still plan.

Tomorrow I have my parents coming to visit for 6 weeks, so have been enjoying time with dh this evening.

I am going to interview for job on friday, will probrably do a few weeks, but then ask about possibility of reducing down to two days a week after that. Interview is more of a formality as I have already had an interview there previously, but will have to start putting work thoughts back into my head.

Hope everyone has started recovering from the various bugs here.

Ok Ok - I can't keep it in any longer - sorry Ready (but I am using the excuse that Rah has broken the news in TTC already!)

READY HAS HAD HER BABY!!!!!!

This morning around 2am

And

It's a ......................................girl

Ahh - that's better I was fit to burst!

Sorry again for stealing your thunder Ready - but I waited all day!

Just can't wait to hear all the details

rainbowdays · 25/07/2009 08:06

Wow, that is great news, so happy for you Ready. I am sure that baby Ready is beautiful too.

OP posts:
fettle · 25/07/2009 15:23

Seaside!! Can't believe you've given in!!! Although I'm secretly really pleased as I've been finding it really really hard not to say anything either as I'm so excited for Ready!!!

Can't believe that after all this time she finally has her little baby - feels like ages ago when we all 'met' for the first time (in fact just as DH was going to Iraq, which was in 2006, so could it have been as long ago as 2005?

Right best get on - Toby is asleep and DH and DD are on a cycle ride, so I'm supposed to be working on such al ovely day as well. Supposed to be going to a firework prom this evening and the weather would be perfect, but our babysitter has cancelled and we've been unsuccessful in finding another! We'll be having a picnic on the sitting-room floor at this rate!!!

Hope everyone is well?
Rainbow how did the interview go?

greedygreedyguzzler · 25/07/2009 17:54

CONGRATULATIONS READY! cant wait to hear the details............a name at least!

seaside72 · 25/07/2009 21:34

Right - just typed a mammoth post and pressed delete instead of return arghhhh!
I know fettle - I am rubbish at keeping exciting news in I knew a few of us probably knew iykwim and couldn't bear how quiet the thread was - so once I saw Rah had said something on the TTC#1 forever thread I couldn't help myself!!

Hope Ready comes on soon to give us the full story.

Hope you managed to salvage your evening fettle

How did the interview go rainbow - hope you are doing OK.

All is well here except praying the plague has not struck Cassius as he has a fever today and then woke up after an hour asleep in obvious discomfort and after some burping and farting produced some foul, ammonia-smelling diarrhoea - we will see what the night brings. Other than that he is fine within himself eating, playing etc. I would not be that bothered by it actually except we are due to be going to New York on Tuesday so am praying it is not the dreaded flu

He had the same fever 2 weeks ago - which coincided with 2 of his canines coming in - then the next day all fine again. He has been teething like a demon for the past month and I think the 2 canines on the other side have just burst through - so who knows He has suffered so badly with teeth - I am so glad that we only have 2 molars left now - phew!

Apart from that he is brilliant - saying 2 words Bum and Car - typical boy He is also very cute - giving me random kisses with big lip smacking noises and also proper squeezing cuddles - awwww.

Hope everyone else is well especially the new mums and also preggers ones

rainbowdays · 27/07/2009 09:42

Ready - I have just seen the picture of your beautiful little girl, she is adorable, I just want to cuddle her. And you have chosen the best name ever!

OP posts:
Chooster · 27/07/2009 13:07

Brilliant, brilliant news!!! So pleased Ready! ... And now I see there are pictures and a name! But where???? I'll hvae to scan through ttc I think to get the low down. So pleased that she's here, its been worth all those frustrating ttc months (and years!).

How did the job interview go Rainbow? Did they agree to the reduced start. So, your DD starts school to this year - so does DS1.

Hope Cassius is doing better today seaside? Is he going with you to New York? Is this just a little sightseeing / shopping trip?

How much longer for your sis greedy? Am sure I've read before that its fairly imminent now . Whats the story with permanent premises for you?

All good here, Theo's spots have largely all gone although he's left with a few little scars - though he ddin't scratch at all bless him! DS1 is also doing good... Workwise we've had a bit more info and of the 7 of us who do my job in my area there are only going to be 3 jobs so its quite a reduction, and we're all doing our applications now although wont find out the result til October... Apart from that all is good... DH is away this week and one of my best pals is flying over tomorrow to stay - haven't seen her for a year!! Am so shocked by that - time just flies by!

Ready · 27/07/2009 17:43

Hi ladies

Seaside, you asked for the full story... something you might regret

Chooster, I haven't managed to put a pic on here yet - I did text those whose number I have with a pic and I have uploaded one onto facebook. When I get time I will try and pop one on here.

Ok, here is my attempt at my birth story? I am still processing it, how it all went, so things might not make sense, or seem rambly ? apologies for that.

Went in to the maternity unit on Tuesday evening to start induction process, which started out with prostin gel to ripen the cervix? next morning I was not ready, needed more gel, then 6 hours later they gave me my last dose of gel ? then I had to wait overnight to see if I was favourable for induction. I had very little sleep for the two nights of prostin as the pains were very hard to handle. Nothing to what would come later but impossible to sleep through.

Next morning WOO HOO ? I was 3 cm dilated so they would easily be able to break my waters that afternoon. So DH and I walked around trying to help nature (well, prostin) along. Went across at 2pm to have my waters broken with the big crochet hook ? all I can say is WEIRD. I feel slightly grateful for not having burst all over a supermarket aisle floor ? but disappointed that things were being so managed.

The midwife said to go and walk around for a little while ? so once the initial lot of waters had subsided, we went for a few laps of the hospital.

Went back at 3.15 and met the midwife who would be with me until 10pm, and she started me off on the syntocinon drip ? the synthetic contraction maker ? every so often they ramp up the dose and the contractions get stronger. I lasted about 5 hours without any pain relief ? much to the midwife?s shock ? if I had a pound for every time she said ?are you sure you don?t want any gas and air yet?? I would be rich . It was painful, and apparently more painful than natural contractions ? although I can?t compare, so I won?t try. I was coping well with DH just massaging my back and counting down my breaths through each contraction. He was awesome, I have to say. I was very lucky to have him there. He had done a playlist for us to listen to ? and it was lovely having music in the background. Something I will always recommend to people. At times I was even dancing and singing

At 8 o?clock they checked me and I had only dilated to 5 cm ? they would have preferred 7cm, but since there was some progress they were happy for me to continue, so that?s what we did.

I did move onto the gas and air at about 8.30 as the contractions were getting much harder to just breathe through, and if the end had been nearly in sight, I might have perservered, but I was worried about getting too tired to push, so thought I would give the gas and air a shot. I have to say it was quite good fun ? DH said that I turned into a stand up comic. I do remember laughing lots, and it certainly did take the edge off the contractions.

The midwife ramped me up to the highest dose of synto ? and this is where it started to go wrong. Not because of the synto, but because it was going to anyway, this just started the ball rolling.

That midwife was at the end of her shift, and the new one came through at 10 o?clock ? one that I had met already on the maternity unit, so it was lovely to see a friendly face ? and quite honestly, she was amazing.

My contractions started coming too fast between 10.30 or 11 ish - and at still only 5cm dilated I was getting too many contractions, one on top of the other almost, and certainly baby was not ready and neither was I for contractions of that nature. MW suggested I get up on the bed for a bit, but that was the start of when everything went wrong. I got up on the bed, and just felt terrible. Possibly I fainted, or something, not entirely sure what happened ? but basically I was in agony, and felt terrible and remember saying ?I can?t cope with this? ? then in the blink of an eye, alarms were sounding, doctors and midwives were running in, my legs were in stirrups, and an oxygen mask had been strapped to my face. DH?s face went white, and I had no idea what was happening ? I just remember saying ?I don?t want to lose my baby, and I don?t want to die?.

The baby had gone into distress, presumably because my blood pressure had dropped scarily low ? and the babies heartrate nosedived and disappeared ? they placed a clip on her head to monitor her, and then took blood from her scalp to see if anything was wrong. Thankfully there wasn?t. And we both recovered enough, so we were able to continue, but I said that I would probably need an epidural at this point because I was weak, exhausted and frightened. So they called the anaesthetist. Meanwhile they started the contractions again from scratch with the synto drip. It took the anaesthetist 40 mins and 6 attempts to get my epidural in ? he was very frustrated bless him ? he kept going into blood vessels ? kept asking if I was a horse rider or particularly sporty ? HAHA!

At about 1.15 I was still not any more dilated and the chief obstetrician decided that there was nothing to be gained from continuing as it was getting late ? and he because I was term plus 15 days he didn?t want to put the baby at any undue risk ? he suggested c-section.

So emergency c-section it was to be, I was prepped and taken to theatre ? and babyReady was born at 2.02am, weighing in a 9lb3 ? and she is worth every single ounce of effort that was put in.

Surgeon said, there was no way she was coming out naturally, her head position was in such a way that she was stuck. So glad we d didn't perservere any longer. As it turns out, her position coupled with too much synto was what caused the complications.

Ready · 27/07/2009 17:45

Sorry that was such a ramble [blus]

I didn't realise I had waffled quite so much.

Hope everyone is well?

Ready · 27/07/2009 17:46

Oh, and I forgot to say... Hannah Mae

fettle · 27/07/2009 20:32

Oh Ready - sounds pretty traumatic, but glad Hannah Mae is safely here - she really is beautiful!!! Has that perfect fully term, C-section complexion and perfect shaped head - beautiful!! hope you are recovering well?

I probably should have told you that my oxytocin drip was too high with Lexi and it was pretty scary for a time - her heartbeat stopped and they put a clip on her head as well - luckily for me it all happened very quickly after that and out she popped. So didn't want to add to your pre-birth concerns. Sounds like you had some fabulous care in there though! And she's perfectly healthy, which is the most important thing.

Right - I really must do some work - been doing admin for past 1.5hrs and need to get some coursework done before I go to bed!

xxx

Chooster · 27/07/2009 21:01

Ah, lovely name ready - Hello little Hannah. Like you say all worth it in the end isn't it, but what a birth story! Good job you went for that section when you did so as not to cause any more distress... you must have been exhausted as well after hardly any sleep - its not easy this labour stuff is it!

I totally empathise with you on the syntocin - I had it with both of mine, DS1 was because I haemorraged before labour ccould start and the second due to positive strep b result and DS2 was not coming out any time soon after water went. Like you the first time I managed with G&A and pethadine and I felt like superwoman! but the second time I thought "bugger that" and went straight for an epidural. Oouch, at the 6 attempts to get the epidural in ....

But like you say, all worth it now that she is here safe and sound... So thrilled for you, how is DH after the trauma of childbirth?

by the way if you feel like beig brave, there are a few of us hooked up on facebook, unless of course you dont want to 'out' yourself.

rainbowdays · 27/07/2009 21:36

Ready - thank you for coming and telling us your birth story, wow. I am also impressed that you are up and about enough to be typing it all to tell us too, that is great. Also as Chooster said - ouch on the 6 epidural attempts, I thought one was bad enough!!! (have emailed congrats to you too).

Chooster - hope you have a good time with your pal. Pain about you having to apply for your job and such a long time to wait.

My interview went well and I got offered job, but I am going in tomorrow to negotiate terms!!!

OP posts:
fettle · 27/07/2009 21:52

Chooster - forgot to say - sorry to hear about your work situation - is the redundancy package good? What is your preferred option? Hope all works out as you want.

Rainbow - hope the job details are worked out in your terms!

Right - still have to get on with work - really not finding it very easy to concentrate!!!

honeyapple · 28/07/2009 09:41

Hurrah! Well done Ready! Welcome Hannah! (Marvellous name ) You sound like you went through a bit of a rough ride- I'm sure your next experience will be much smoother!
Well done again .

Chooster · 28/07/2009 12:55

Redundancy deal wont be good as I've only been here for 3 years (and 14 months of that was on mat leave )... If I can I'd like to stay but drop my hours from 28 to 21 hours per week... Just dont know whether to be honest about my desire to cut my hours before or after the selection process... Any views ladies?

Scorps · 28/07/2009 18:46

Ready - Well done! Hannah is a beautiful name and i remember you saying a long time ago you liked that name. Synto does really hurt, far more than natural contractions, you did so well I have had 2 of my waters broken with the hook, it is very odd isn't it! Hope the feeding is going well and you're resting.

Waves to others, I'm 18+4 now, going nicely.

greedygreedyguzzler · 30/07/2009 22:30

ready - congrats again!! sounds all a bit traumatic to me, but i bet you feel like wonder woman having done it and at least you can take some consolation that you missed out on the 'oh my god, my whole body is going to tear in two' feeling when pushing her out. enjoy all these lovely first few weeks, although i know i don't need to say that, cos you seem like the sort of person who will love every second.

like chooster said we are all on facebook!

honey - i thought you might like the name!!!

chooster - sorry about your job situation but glad the spots are going. i have had the most stressful day at work EVER (maybe even of my life) today, seeing as you asked!! meant to be signing the lease on my new place and then one silly wench decided to back out at the last second and cock everything up. anyway, all very stressy and boring but i should be in my new place in the next 2 weeks hopefully!

rainbow - you negotiate yourself a good deal tomorrow!

fettle - hiya! hows the reflex course going? still enjoying it?
