The old thread was getting impossibly slow on my computer, so decided that it was time to create a new one with hopefully Rah and Ready joining us, and with a whole new due date list.....

so MrsM, Momwi - come and start the list and hopefully Rah and Ready will come here now too!!!!!

I am so excited that the temp buddies are back together again, can you tell?!?!?!?

Huge congratulations Rainbowdays - what lovely news. How very exciting. Hope you are feeling well

So... I am no longer at work, and I feel like I am the size of a house. Oh... and if another person tells me that it is going to be a HOT summer I might cry.

Could someone shed some light on something for me... how the heck am I supposed to sleep at night? I read that sleeping on my back is a no-no - but I sometimes wake up having rolled (or something more clumsy I bet) onto my back, and I worry that I should be preventing that somehow??? Also - someone told me I should be sleeping on my left - which is not really a problem, except that I keep waking up with a numb hip/leg - all the extra weight clearly - but I need to get some sleep.

I know, I know - in 8 weeks I am going to look back on this sleep as heavenly - but still.

Another question... sorry, all I ever do is ask questions - hope you don't mind?

I am getting my hospital bag sorted, and my book says quite helpfully - front fastening nighties. Great. Excellent. Or at least it would be, if I knew where to buy said item. Do they even exist? All I can find are nighties that my MIL would wear - all chintzy and floral - so not me. Did anyone manage to find anything vaguely acceptable? Don't get me wrong - I'm not totally vain or anything, but I would prefer something plain. But I cannot find anything... help.

Off on my hols this friday, very excited. Going to stay in a cottage down near the south coast, all very romantic and lovely. When we get back there will be 7 weeks to go Can you believe how quickly time flies?

Anyway, enough of my rambling on... hope everyone is well, and enjoying the good weather.

xx

Chooster · 12/05/2009 19:20

Hi ready - good to hear you are now off work - must be a lovely feeling!!! At least it gives you plenty of time to take it easy and slowly get everything ready and organised.

In terms of nighties I got mine from mothercare, they had some plain-ish front fastening nighties - I think mine was just navy? . Or you could try M&S and mamas and papas and see if they have anything?

For sleep I used to lie on my left and pop a pilow between my thighs (sounds a bit odd now? ) as that took the pressure off my bump and back... Also maybe put a pillow behind you as well to stop you rolling over. I dont think there is specifically any harm to the baby in lying on your back its just not so good for you and doesn't help your ability to breathe properly and get the blood circulating well. Others may correct me though!

fettle · 12/05/2009 19:48

Hi All

Not pregnant!!! Was actually so relieve this morning when AF arrived! AFter all those years of dreading it, I danced around the bathroom - I think we can safely conclude that I don't want another baby!! (although I'm sure we would have coped very easily and extremely happily with another!)

Ready - hope you are enjoying your time of rest. I really wished I'd had some decent maternity leave before DD arrived, but I worked until the end and then she arrived early, so I had no time in the end. Enjoy your break - sounds blissful!. As for sleeping, I never found an answer for comfy sleep towards the end as I always suffered with SPD which meant agony moving around! I think back sleeping is discouraged as the weight of the baby can push down on your aorta and preventing blood flow, but I frequently woke up on my back too, so try not to worry too much about it.

Right - must go - actually can I ask your advice, I'm about to post another thread on this, but I'll ask you all as well in case anyone is around...

DD has been telling me things that a boy in her class has been saying and I don't know whether to say anything to the class teacher or whether these are 'normal' things for a 5 year boy to say.

First thing was at the end of last term
"X is going to die"
"We're all going to die darling eventually"
"But he's going to die soon"
"why do you think that?"
"he told me, he said his Mummy is going to kill him"
"That's not true darling"
"It is Mummy, he said she's going to run him over in her car"

2nd thing was last night
"X wants to kill Y(girl)"
"That's not very nice, what's he doing?"
"He's throwing stones at the back of her neck and he says he has to find really sharp ones to kill her properly"

3rd time tonight
"X is going to kill Z(another girl)"
"Don't you mean Y"
"No he's going to kill Z"
"I'm sure he's not really darling"
"He is, Mummy, he's going to bring a gun in tomorrow to kill her"

Needless to say I'm a bit shocked - I know that he has a far from stable home life, but not having a 5 year old boy, I'm not sure if this obession with killing is normal or whether I should bring it to anyone's attention? Or whether it's just DD making up stories? What do you all think?

rainbowdays · 12/05/2009 23:07

Ready - thank you for the congrats, I guess you must be thinking me mad to put myself through all the agony again!!!! So for sleeping - kick dh out of the bed have 101 pillows of all shapes and sizes. one between the knees, one at small of back, another little one supporting around bump, obviously some under head and a few more scattered around in case I lost any in the night (when getting up for yet another wee!) and then ahhhhh, some sleep, oh forgot last time I could not lay down due to reflux so had more under chest and head to sleep at semi-recline on side sort of angle!!!!!! But the key factors were having bed to myself and loads of pillows.
Now regarding front nighties - I had loads but found them useless, perhaps it is just me. I found tee-shirts and pj bottoms much easier. I found oicking up teeshirt easier to breastfeed than to fiddle with silly little buttons and then bra and everything, but could just be me with this. I also liked having the pj bottoms on in case of little leakages from down there, just being able to change the bottoms and not the whole kit was easier. Just make sure that the pj's are the size you are now as you will grow in the next few weeks and then after having baby the jelly belly will be about where you are now approx. Does that make sense????

Fettle - I heard my ds saying things about death recently and dd then embellished it, I think that age 5ish is an age for fasination with death. So a child who has been exposed to some less wonderful influences will find it facinating and want to tell all the classmates. I would not think that it is very worrying in some respects, but obviously you do not want your dd to be hearing things like this if it carries on much longer. Also there is a distinction between fasination in death and fasination in killing. So if the comments continue in the same vain, it might be worth having a chat with the classroom teacher.

honeyapple · 13/05/2009 12:14

hi

fettle- just want to say that IM humble O you REALLY need to talk to teacher about the little boy in question- my kids might say some things about death etc but not to that degree. And i dont think any boys should be interested in killing people- maybe imaginery mosters/baddies but not real classmates...

ready- i did have a couple of button down front nighties from m and s- plain ones- but they were quite short- ie above knee- but also as rainbow i prefer PJs- baggy ones (although i was lucky and didnt have a big belly after so i didnt get MASSIVE ones). You could just wear a vest top and then a cardy or zip up sweatshirt.

another tip for the hospital bag- my pet hate- disposable pants!!! AHHHHH they are horrid- get a nice pack of cheapy supermarket/primark knickers that you dont mind chucking...

dex just woken up
bye
x

fettle · 13/05/2009 12:36

Thanks for tour thoughts honey and rainbow. I've made an appointment to see teacher after school as boys mummy was next to me this morning so could t say anything then. Seems from my other thread that death obsession is normal-ish but killing and in such detail less so.

Ready forgot to say I got mine from mothercare but the buttons were rubbish and wouldn't stay shut after a while! Agree with honey bout disposable pants. Big ones you're happy to throw away def best option!

Xxx

Chooster · 13/05/2009 13:38

While on subject of hosptial bag, remember to take flip flops as you dont really want to be walking in the communal bathroom once mini-ready is here with bare feet or slippers...

I think you are doing the right thing fettle. Max does talk about death but only like "You're going to die soon aren't you granny cos your old"... All pretty harmless although my mum was a little disappointed . Killing is different and especially describing how to kill someone properly . A bit odd in my view.

iamamummy · 13/05/2009 16:48

hi ladies

finally able to post, been ill since friday and had very bad cystitis (never had it before so saying it was a shock to the system is putting it mildly)also i started bleeding and stopped feeling movements so went straight up to the ward who eventually put our minds at rest - it took her 5 minutes to find a heartbeat!! anyway we had a scan on sunday and all was perfect, she said his sizing is average and above so looks like im gunning for another big one

quick question - how did you all go about teaching your dc to use cutlery and at what age? oscar is doing fine picking up food with his fingers and eats like a star but when i introduce a fork or spoon the whole things turns into one big messy disaster. we have friends round for dinner saturday and they are bringing their ds who has been using cutlery for past few months and he is same age as oscar.

rainbow - again i am so happy for you!!!

greedy - totally agree with you we have all come such a long way since those ttc days and its fantasctic that all our old pals are at last joining us!!

chooster - glad to hear mrsmc is doing well, please send her my love. sorry but i had to lol at your ds comment about death, i love the way toddlers are so blatant

fettle - i hope your meeting goes well with the teacher this evening, i agree something needs to be mentioned and make her aware of what that child is coming out with as i cannot imagine your dd is the only one telling her parents what has been said.

ready - when i was packing my hospital bag i found that primark was a fab place for button down nighties and also half buttoning nighties, i think i bought 3 for £5 which was good as i only planned on throwing them after. they were not the most attractive of things (imagine puppy dogs and penguins etc) but they did the job for me.

ladies when pg with no.2 did any of you have nightmares about the birth? i keep waking up all hours of the night having had dreams of bleeding to death etc of giving birth again. i am getting rather frightened about going through the whole process again. i am going to a birthing again group run by the nct in a couple of weeks to try and talk through my fears and hopefully calm me down.

off to start dinner now xx

fettle · 13/05/2009 21:27

Hi All

Teacher was pleased I mentioned it. She was already aware of the first incident as apparently another mother had mentioned it before. Feel a bit bad, but still think I was right to let her know, as she'll know what if anything she should do now (I hope!).

Iammummy - I was terrified about giving birth 2nd time around. Just suddenly got really worried about dying during labour for some reason. I put it down to having DD and feeling a lot more mortal. DH was big enough to cope without me, but DD needed me. Silly I know, but there is no accounting for the effects of hormones on your brain!!!
As for cutlery I really can't remember. I think I've always given spoons to mine while feeding them in the early stages and gradually DD wanted to have a go. Toby on the other hand wanted to copy me and DD and asked for cutlery as he got older - he's the only toddler I know who won't eat now without at least a spoon or fork (if not a knife too!!), for everything including raisins and sandwich pieces!!! Can't fault him though as how should he know that some things you can eat with your fingers and others you should use utensils! Doesn't stop him using his hands for shovels if he gets too hungry to use his fork as he hasn't quite got his coordination right yet!!

Right - must start concentrating on the apprentice!!
xxx

greedygreedyguzzler · 14/05/2009 12:50

fettle - what a strange little boy! i am glad you mentioned it, i definately would have done. he sounds seriously disturbed to me. i would discourage dd from playing with him too, but then i am a bit controlling!

iamamummy - i was terrified about giving birth second and third times! use to have nightmares all the time. i think first time you KNOW its going to hurt, but really you are in ignorant bliss..........next time you know EXACTLY what to expect, so you are bound to get nervous. hey, at least you ALSO know what its really like to have a baby and and how amazing they are!

ready - no tips from me im afraid, just sympathy! the last few weeks are so uncomfortable aren't they? think i got my nightshirt from marks. agree with the knickers. dont buy paper pants! whats the point when you can get normal cotton ones so cheaply. dont forget your mobile phone! i was in a birthing unit last time and they allowed phones, so once dh had gone and marcy was asleep i rang round loads of people for a chat!

have found new premises for my clinic which is all a bit scarey. committed to 3 years so i hope it works out or i will be bankrupt! we have also put an offer in on a house which needs completely gutting and renovating (not sure what we were thinking actually, and im kind of hoping they refuse the offer!) anyway, lots going on here at the moment! my sis is 26 weeks now which seems to be really dragging............cant wait to meet her little baby!

better go and tidy up my house which is a complete tip!!

wonder where bodders is? she hasnt been around for a while

Ready · 15/05/2009 09:43

Thanks very much girls for all the helpful insights. As always you are all legendary.

I had already decided against disposable pants ? preferring instead old cotton pants. The thought of paper knickers filled me with dread. I also have taken on board the pjs advice. I prefer to wear bottoms and a top ? I think the thing that concerned me with that option was if I had to have an emergency c-section ? bottoms that sit across the stitches/scar would not be good. So, I am going to treat myself to a cotton nightshirt and also have some bottoms/vests/cardi. Cover all the bases

Anyway, off on hols? so can?t write much ? just wanted to check in and say thanks for the help. No doubt when I get back I will have thought of some more questions for you all

Ready · 15/05/2009 09:46

Oops, and on the subject of sleep - I have been surrounded by pillows for weeks now but nothing seems to make a difference. Hey ho. Just going to grin and bear it.

greedygreedyguzzler · 15/05/2009 19:59

have a great holiday ready.............relax and enjoy!!!................holidays will never be the same again!!!.......................they will be much more fun once you have your babe!!!!

rainbowdays · 15/05/2009 22:28

Ready - go have a great holiday, hope you get plenty of rest and relaxation.

iam - I have introduced Jak to cutlery and encourage him to use it, but it is SO messy when he does that I often end up feeding it to him, which kindof defeats the object!

I am already feeling huge and icky at only 4 weeks..... I am as bloated as can be and nausea all day, what the heck... oh well I suppose it was what I wanted! I got those conception indicator tests use tomorrow, just want some reassurance, just hope that is what it does and does not come out too low !!!!
