mrsboogie · 26/01/2009 20:33

yay! congrats to Verity on sprouting teeth! and not one but two! must be all that yummy fish pie that mummy made

ermintrude13 · 26/01/2009 21:53

JJ don't worry, I bfed mine til 22 and 18 months respectively, teeth and all. If she tries an experimental bite, an extremely loud YELL and yank away from the boob should shock her enough not to try it again. It sounds like I'd planned that response but no, it was just a natural reaction to extreme pain. It made both of mine cry more than me and they were v gentle after that, poor shocked mites. Except when they're nodding off and a bit of snoozy nipple-grinding is just toooo hard to resist .

johnworf · 26/01/2009 22:10

blimey ermintrude. No way would I want anyone chomping away on my nipples.

JJ well done for not one, but two toothy pegs! Woot! Obviously not YOU, but Verity.

First night in big cot tonight. Change of routine as normally rock her to sleep in her crib but obviously cot doesn't rock. So far so good as she's asleep. DH said when she was in her crib last night she got her arm stuck in the bars...so it's def time for a change up to bigger things.

Oh btw for anyone interested...Superdrug have ovulation kits in the sale from £19.99 down to 0.99p. No need for one here (thank goodness).

DSS has discovered the joys of popcorn. However, his speech not being 100%, he asked me tonight if he could have some cockporn which...could be tricky next time we have guests.

ermintrude13 · 26/01/2009 22:14

Cockporn, a classic!

No chomping, JW, just the one big bite with each DC and the need to make sure they didn't fall asleep on the tit after that. I knew I shouldn't have been allowing them to feed to sleep but it made life so much easier - before they got teeth .

Hope baby K enjoys escaping from her crib prison into the wide expanse of a big girl's bed!

night night all

jeanjeannie · 27/01/2009 08:31

Morning all - thick fog - can't see the bottom of the garden

ermintrude I see what you mean about 'grinding' yeeoww! MMmm, definately time to do something about the nipple/sleep association. It's odd as she doesn't need a feed to get to sleep in the day or when she goes to bed - just when she wakes at night...MMMMM? *rubs chin and ponders.

jw how was first night in the big girl's cot?

LOL@Cokporn - bless him

Ovulation kits eh? I think I'd be tempted - just to make sure I wasn't ovulating

Off to a load of garden centres today - taking our 84 yr old friend too. I'm on the look out for plants for our new super-doopa garden - when we do it.

johnworf · 27/01/2009 09:07

JJ touch of frost here but bright and sunny. Think we'll just admire from the window today.

K did incredibly well in her new big cot Apart from she'd managed to wriggle up to the top of the cot and her arms were like little blocks of ice this morning. Today's quest is to go and buy some more cotbed size bedding. Would like something along the lines of a quilt but I know that proper baby quilts are not reccommended for the under 12 months.

Now that K is tolerating her daily meal of porridge and banana her poo is now almost black. Good consistency (takes some and rubs it between fingers...sniffs). Amazing the hues her poo has been through in the past few months.

Poor woman in the US who has just had 8 of the blighters and she's breastfeeding them all Jeez. And I though I had it bad with one

Have fun with the plants JJ. Can't think about re-doing our garden yet until we hear what Mr Accountant has to say. I'm desperate to line up the decorator as well to get the downstairs living rooms done before spring but again it's on hold for now.

johnworf · 27/01/2009 09:08

Oh btw, Thorntons are doing a 20% off again. I shall not be tempted though

Not lost this week nor gained which is an absolute miracle the amount of crap I've had over the past couple of days.

ermintrude13 · 27/01/2009 09:35

JW have you tried grobags? They don't keep the arms warm so you need long sleeves, but are vg for little ones who work their way out of their bedding...

johnworf · 27/01/2009 09:40

Yep I've got a couple of grobags but as you say, don't keep the arms warm. Only tried her in the grobag a couple of times but think now she has the room to wriggle I'll need to put her in one every night.

mrsboogie · 27/01/2009 10:05

mornin all

Just been thinking we need to get D bag into his grobags - once it starts getting light in the bedroom he pulls the blanket over his face to keep the light out. I bought several, full of good intentions, when he was born but stopped using them as they are bit of a faff getting him in and out of the Amby.

Weather seems nice here - hoping to get out for a walk once I have done several admin tasks which I failed to do yesterday as I was so tired.

How in god's name is it possible to breastfeed eight babies at once? how would you even keep track of which ones were fed and which weren't yet? Amazingly good weights for premie octuplets. And its natural as well rather than assisted conception.

Well, tried D with some baby rice yesterday. Cue much shock and horror and dramatic retching. You'd have thought the spoon was electrified the way he was going on. I don't think he likes baby rice

Tee how are you feeling today dear?

Tee2072 · 27/01/2009 10:13

Good morning all!

Verity! Teeth! You go girl! (but stop biting mama!!)

JW glad she's settling well in her cot. I hear wonderful things about grow bags. DH saw some hanging on a rack in Mamas and Papas and said 'see? we can just hang the baby on the wall, we don't need a cot!' I keep telling the baby that daddy thinks he's funny and we try to not disillusion him.

She's going to breastfeed? Can't see that lasting long. She'd be done with the last and have to right back to the first. She'd be doing it 24/7!!

And what is with y'all's children? BOOBIES and Cockporn!!!

Speaking of which, I said at work today 'I just wish it was June so I could get this damn baby out of me!' The men were all shocked, the women with children nodded in sympathy! Total nausea back again. Ugh.

BonzoDoodah · 27/01/2009 11:47

Phew ermintrude - glad yr sis is made of strong stuff! Yes mine is a Matilda (what good taste you have). It means "strong in battle" - did we pick the right name for her or what!!!

Notts Babies at the soft play - erm yes ... LOTS of jewlery. The little boy near me was about 2 with a silver bangle and a gold chain with a pendant and the little girls all had pierced ears and other jewels (at about 2-7 years old). I do lead a sheltered life! Mind you - when I lived in Notts I did live "south of the river" (for a bit) - although I MUCH preferred it in the Meadows - right next to the river and a lovely community.

And jeanjeanie - I'm with Ermintrude on the BF with teeth. I only fully weaned DD this month at 17 months. The first time she bit me (sort of experimental nip) I jumped and screamed. She cried and didn't do it again for another month or so. Then, when she did I had the same involuntary reaction and she really didn't do it again. I think she knew which side her "bread" was buttered.
jw love the cokporn! Classic to remember! As for blankets I'd go for the sleeping bag. We do - but with a fleecy top on the top. Keeps her arms and shoulders warm and she can rotate round the bed to her hearts content.

johnworf · 27/01/2009 12:13

I'm def going for the grobag option with, like you say bonzo, a warm long sleeved top underneath.

I've just sold my gliding crib off piste on Ebay. I'll end the auction and get cash on collection. Getting our bedroom back slowly! And, I got more for it than I paid for it (and it was secondhand when I bought it). Bonnet de douche as Del Boy would say.

Babies with earrings are just so wrong. Little girls are bad enough (would that be one pair or two pairs of creoles hanging there on that toddler I see?), but the one stud on little boys is so very wrong. I've seen it combined with; a mullet, a mohican, or a skinhead and they all reek of chaviness. I think a stud in any mans ear looks a bit strange - said within the knowledge that there probably/possibly/hopefully no one on here with a DP who has one My DH even refused a wedding ring as he really doesn't like jewellery and won't wear a watch either for the same reason.

mrsb K hated the baby rice and now I use what I've got to either mix in with the purees I've made or mix in with whatever else I have (but not the porridge). Try him on something a bit fruity. I bet he'll like that far more

FloriaTosca · 27/01/2009 12:16

Morning All!

I'm with everyone extolling the merits of sleeping bags..used them in the Amby too as I found them more convenient than blankets, I just put fleecy sleepsuits underneath when the weather turned.

JJ; sympathy on the biting, like Bonzo and Ermintrude I did the involuntary scream and upset him so he didnt do it again except when dropping off (my fault for letting him go to sleep on the boob)and we are still bfing now.

Tee oooh,I hope the nausea settles soon.

Wow on the octuplets! Good luck to her trying to bf them all! Only 2 on ventilators and one on oxygen, that is amazing!

Well I did the deed with the scales this morning, not expecting much... but I have lost the 2lb I gained last week plus one! so 3lb!!!! now XX Stones 9lb, total loss 5lb ..that is what an abcess on your tooth does for you!...had it drilled yesterday to drain ready for a root canal next week but I think the dressing has just falled out while I was drinking my cuppa so will probably have to go in to the dentists again today, what joy!

duchesse · 27/01/2009 12:59

Just double-checking- how mad do you ladies reckon it would be to wrap a two month house extension project around the estimated birth date of a new baby? I'm thinking "woo-hoo! Time saving!" I probably wouldn't be up to much work anyway in the last month of pregnancy/ first month after birth, so why not combine the madness?

points to note:

  1. I work from home, and am self-employed, so free to turn work down if needed (money constraints the only consideration)
  2. our build will be managed by a supremely competent and efficient friend, who is completely tuned to our needs for peace and quiet during the boy's GCSEs. He doesn't yet know about this gestating one though...
  3. our plan is to have a useable living space tacked onto our detached garage, chiefly so that we are not left for many/any days without running water.

Is it mad? Workable? Have I forgotten what having a new baby is like?

ladymac · 27/01/2009 13:25

Hi everybody,

Been busy here as usual but have been trying to catch up with all the goings on. Thanks for asking after me jeanjeannie

Have skimmed through most of the news and can't remember everything but did want to say to johnworf that Elizabeth loves her Tripp Trapp, we have it in turquoise. Goes very nicely with our Jacobsen Series 7 dining chairs (assorted colours) which are about 15 years old now and my favourite of the few things I managed to get in my divorce settlement. Will definitely be buying another one for number 5, am liking the limey green one at the mo. BTW, I never used reins with it, just had the baby set and the padded bit. Will be cheaper next time too as will only need to buy the basic chair.

Am almost 30 weeks now and I must say I've had a great 2nd trimester, feeling well and happy and also horny , much to DH's delight. Was like that last time too. Lots of very erotic dreams so am waking up 'in the mood'. Still feeling good now I'm in the last trimester. Am trying to have a bit of a rest after my lunch on the days I'm not working but that's not always possible. Think it's looking after a 21 month old more than the pregnancy that's making me tired. Have found that bed at 9pm is the answer. If I sleep during the day it just makes me more tired. Waking up for the loo once or twice during the night which is very boring. I quite often wake between one and two with heartburn and stupidly keep forgetting to have the bottle of gaviscon by the bed.

Saw my friend's 6 day old baby this morning. She's a beautiful little girl, her third daughter, and it seemed a bit strange to think that I'll soon be holding a baby of a similar size.

Elizabeth is doing brilliantly and her speech is really coming on. She says yeah or yep for yes and over the last couple of days she's been saying bir when she sees a bird. The speech therapist will be very impressed as we are working on the 'b' sound at the moment. Bird was one of the first words she learnt to sign too and I was very proud when she signed 'bird gone' last week - 2 words together!

OP posts:
ladymac · 27/01/2009 13:34

Meant to say we will definitely be buying a Tripp Trapp for the new baby rather than it's own Arne Jacobsen chair

And duchesse, yes I do think it would be mad but that's because i am the sort of person that finds even the idea of decorating stressful. I had a large top floor conversion done about 13 years ago now when I was pregnant with Grace. Think the builders finished 2 days before I gave birth and I swore never to do anything like that again.

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 27/01/2009 13:55

duchesse sounds a bit mad to me, but, like ladym decorating totally stresses me!

Good to see you ladym and nice to hear that Elizabeth is doing so well! That's a sentence, is what that is 'bird gone'!!

BonzoDoodah · 27/01/2009 14:02

Duchesse - you are mad but so what - go for it!
I had the boiler and raidiators and pipework replaced while I was in labour (6 days of it) ... scabby 70s boiler was cut off as I smelled gas and then we had it replaced quickly - but this took a week - during which I went into labour and spent about 4 days with the plumber looking at me nervously as I paused talking to him to have a contraction. We survived though.

ermintrude13 · 27/01/2009 14:05

ladymac glad to hear all is going well. Will tell my DH that he might get some action nearer the 3rd trimester because things aren't going on much in that dept; I'm still full of nausea most days. Elizabeth is doing very well talking and signing!

duchesse that's the kind of thing we'd do and everyone would say it's crazy, which it would be, but if it's someone you absolutely trust then i think that makes a big difference. If you're freelance working from home (same as me) I think it changes your view about what is and isn't 'workable' and only you can be the judge of that. A plan b - a place to retreat to with a new baby in case there's dust all over the place - may be wise though.

Floria hope you didn't swallow that dressnig and that you get sorted out by the dentist very soon! Root canal work - yuk. Eat ice cream!

jeanjeannie · 27/01/2009 14:45

Afternoon - we're back from the plethora of plants.

duchese it IS bonkers but just do it - I live with a builder/carpenter and we've done two major projects while preggie and then into the birth. When I was 2 mnths preggie we totally gutted downstairs and we lived in the two bedrooms upstairs. We used a camp stove to cook - until I was 7 mnths! All the washing was done in the bath and the first time my midwife came she had to walk across a plank and a three foot drop to get up the stairs If you want a laugh I've still got the website I knocked up at the time so we could let DPs family keep in touch as they were all off around the world.
www.character-building.co.uk

AND we then changed it all again while I was preggie with Verity - as we realised we didn't need planning for an extension - so we trashed part of downstairs AND built a glass-roofed utility room down the side alley!

ladymac hoorah for Elizabeth - signing, speaking and TWO words joined And YAY! for feeling horny Loving the idea of a baby with its own Jacobsen chair egg chair

Oh and duchese not to push home the fact that you should do it - BUT it is a friend doing it for you - who will go out of their way to make sure you're comfy....tee hee....do it, do it, do it, do it.....

Not weighed myself - not sure I should after watching Horizon last night - I'm condemmed to be rotund - either that of I've got that strange chicken virus wot makes you fat

Good luck to the lady attempting to BF 8 babies Hope they're all ok.

jw well done on your ebay successes - tripp trapp fund is growing

FloriaTosca · 27/01/2009 14:48

Duchesse I think you are out of your mind but if you think it is the right time for you, you go for it. We got a lot of home improvements done before Alex arrived (cavity wall insulation, roof insulation, new draught free patio doors and a new boiler)but stopped everything when I was 8 months (we are just starting again 18 months down the line) I think Ermintrudes plan B an excellent fall back if it all goes pear shaped though.

Ladymac lol at your heightened libido...it happened to lot of the girls on my antenatal thread too ...sadly for my Dh it didnt hit me until I was stuck in a 4 bed ward in hospital!!!Well done Elizabeth!

ErmintrudeYes I did swallow the dressing [yuk emoticon]but it was only the first layer and doesnt need to be re-done before next week unless I manage to suck out more of it....Ice cream! What a good excuse to fall off the dieting wagon again!

johnworf · 27/01/2009 14:50

floria oh that smell of the rotting abcess when they drill [sick emoticon]. It's total putrefaction. Yuck!

Am just in the process of buying a couple more of the bigger size grobags as the one's I have she's touching the bottoms with her toes so they're no good. Can't believe how much they are! Nearly £30 for a 2.5 tog. Thought I'd get a 2.5 and a 1.0 tog in the 6-18 months and then there's one for all seasons.

Duchesse it's something that in my pregnancy mad state I'd do. When I was having K I wanted to knock the whole bloody house down and start again and I would have done so if DH hadn't thwarted my plans So I'd say go for it, especially if it's a good builder and one you trust. I love big jobs like that especially when you peer through all the dust, grot etc and it starts pulling together. Love it! Love it!

Thanks for thumbs up on the tripp trapp. It's JJ's fault I'm selling all K's worldly posessions just to fund it Can anyone help me out with this though...been pricing up the bundles for them and it seems there's a new model out that the 'old' cushions will not fit on. Does anyone know what the difference is apart from the price? (old model retailing at £110 approx just chair and new model is £150 just chair).

ladymac so fab that Elizabeth is coming along in leaps and bounds. Remember back a couple of months when you were fretting and she was just getting on with it? Don't like to say we told you so...but we did

johnworf · 27/01/2009 14:56

JJ love the pics of your house in progress. Really entertaining and innovative, especially the washing over the pile of rubble and the tomatoes in the tyres

I take it that was a mock up of Vogue or are they really doing a special on tool belts?

jeanjeannie · 27/01/2009 15:03

Hahahah jw t'was indeed a mock up and the only time I'm ever likely to grace its cover

We've gone for the old version Tripp Trapp again - didn't even realise there was a new one. Got ours from Back in Action (£109.50). I think they're so fab I can't see what they've done to improve? I see according to Stokke website JAme of St Oliver has chosen them for his new restaurant....the bank can't have called in his loan then unlike Mad Axe-Man Ramsey
