Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

A long walk sounds nice JW for some reason I had assumed you couldn't take K out in the cold since you were in exile until March but it is great she can get some fresh air.

We have really been struggling with B today , mostly our fault as we are so tired we have let him play for too long on the Wii and this we know (playing too long that is) makes him very cheeky and rude . And then we start snapping back and it all goes pear shaped. I have had a talk with him and agreed we will only play computer for an hour tomorrow, so here is hoping for some more sleep tonight so we can keep up that resolve. I am finding it pretty hard juggling two LOs and I only have to do it at weekend as B is at school in the week.

mrsboogie · 24/01/2009 21:16

hedgepig and there was me thinking you had the perfect age gap- I have to confess that D's latest play-we-me-all-day-long stage is making me wonder whether I could manage two at all.

hedgepig · 24/01/2009 21:34

the 5 yrs gap is good in many ways MrsB it's just we are really staring to suffer from the lack of a whole nights sleep and at the weekend we have a very energetic young boy who is used to 100% of mommy and daddys time and it if just not possible to give it anymore.

The problem with being over 40 and thinking about a 2nd is you start feeling you may be playing Russian roulette on conceiving if you leave it too long. I am really pleased we had a 2nd and B is so in love with his brother it is just lovely too see (this may change as O gets more mobile and starts breaking his stuff )

jeanjeannie · 24/01/2009 21:54

Did I hear talk about lack of sleep? [nods sagely and adopts Sybil Fawlty-style voice 'OOooooo, I know']

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for tonight - as Verity has eaten a huge amount of moroccan lamb followed by fruit and yoghurt! Hoping that'll tire her out just digesting it
hedgepig - you have my sympathies as do you mrsB I think tiredness is so hard to explain to someone who's never experienced it on an ongoing basis.

Had lovely afternoon in Windsor - pootled about - Iris liked the castle, especially all lit up at twilight. But even more exciting were the low flying planes from Heathrow - they were a huge hit

duchese that's superb news about the predicted marks - how exciting

jw a nice long walk sounds nice - clear the airways and cobwebs I know - 12mnths clothes Went to M&S and got some babygrows and they fit perfectly - no tight straining on the thighs - she should be comfy tonight!

DP made a gorgeous mexican dinner - just lovely - Quesadillas with chicken and salsa...yum yum. Off to bed now with a full belly - that'll do me the world of good

johnworf · 24/01/2009 22:19

hedgepig I took her out in her pram, all wrapped up, with the plastic thingy over it all. As long as no one tries to stick their face in the pram she's fine. It's contact with germy people that are the problem. Not the fresh air. Although I wouldn't take her out if it was too cold. Early days for us on walks I really enjoyed it though as afterall, I've pretty much been under house arrest myself for the past few months.

Your afternoon sounds like a good one JJ and the girls enjoyed it. Fresh air might do the trick for Verity tonight (fingers crossed).

mrsb are you thinking about another one in the not too distant future? I had 3 under 6 when my older ones were little. I found it easier in many ways as they were closer together. They'd entertain each other most of the time (or fight - that was the boys)

I'm off to bed myself shortly......what a rock n roll lifestyle we all lead

Tee2072 · 25/01/2009 07:23

Good morning.

JJ I had the exact same dinner, except with Spanish Rice as well. And I cooked! I agree, yum yum.

Well, my aunt died last night. She had ultiple sclerosis and came down with pneumonia. We weren't very close, but I am close to her youngest daughter. I really wish I could go see the family/be at the funereal, but it is in Boston and I don't have the time or the money at the moment.

FloriaTosca · 25/01/2009 08:57

Good Morning

Tee Thrilled for your fabulous test results but so sorry about your aunt. MS is a nasty disease, my cousin suffered from it for 40 yrs, she was also finally released by pneumonia It is at times like this, when you want to give comfort and support, that living far from family is so frustrating ...I hope you get the time and funds to see them soon for a happier event.

sympthy to those who are sleep deprived ...last night Alex didnt go down until 9.30, slept 'till 3.30, went down again at 3.50 'till 6.40..and that is one of his best nights ever!

johnworf · 25/01/2009 09:09

Morning laydees. Well I must say I do feel very lucky that K is sleeping so well at the mo. She went down at 9pm, woke at 6am for bottle/nappy change and is just stirring as I type. She really is a good girl but it took me 4 children to get one this good. None of the others were

Tee sorry to hear the sad news of your aunt. I guess this is one of the downsides of living across the pond not being able to get back home at the drop of a hat.

Seem to have a glut of hospital visits all arrive within 2 days of each other. Four different appointments in 2 weeks. Sigh. Have the next cardio appointment through and seeing the surgeon this time. I'm going to tell him I want to hold off for as long as possible so that she can have this new non-invasive procedure and see what he says. I've taken all my cues from a recent episode of Holby City so I know it'll be just fine

jeanjeannie · 25/01/2009 09:50

Morning all. Well, Verity went down at 7.30 - woke briefly at 5am then back till 8.30 Way to go!!

tee sorry to hear about your aunt Yes, it's not like you can get the bus over.

floria it's hard isn't it - you wonder if you'll be doing this in 10 years time

jw 3 under 6... what a good idea - I think I'll get me another

I find that Holby is definately a good source of medical knowledge - much more so than Casualty! Reminds me of a mate who is a dr - we were at an (illegal) rave/party when a girl had a fit. He sprang into action despite bing much the worse for wear. When the ambulance arrived - he gave the paramedics the low-down and they looked at him dubiously asking him if he was a doctor. Realising he was probably breaking the law (drunk, substances and treating someone) he said he wasn't a Dr - just incredibly well read and a fan of Holby

Verity is whacking Bob over the head with a spoon...! We're off to the new soft play place....Play Train...toot toot!!

ermintrude13 · 25/01/2009 13:45

So sorry to hear about your aunt's death, Tee. I hope you get to see your cousins, and your mum who must be so upset to lose a sister, when there's the happy news of your new baby to celebrate.

MS is such a strange thing; my dad has had it for 40 yrs but could get about fine with a walking stick and had no other symptoms - until 8 yrs ago when he had a stroke that was theoretically mild but, because of the MS, completely knocked him sideways. He's in a wheelchair now, dodgy motor skills, occasional incontinence and all sorts of problems. It's a disease that leaves sufferers so vulnerable to any other health problems.

hedgepig we have had to limit 'screen time' for DS (who loves his DS way too much) whereas his big sister naturally limits the time she spends in front of the TV or computer. Boys are definitely more into staring at a screen and pressing buttons.

mrsb I don't think the 'ideal' age gap exists. In some ways I can't imagine dealing with JW's 3 under 6 but I have friends who've done it and can see the advantages of having them all little at the same time. But we've been v happy with the 4yrs 4 months between DD and DS even though it wasn't planned that way - I feel they each had a good chunk of uninterrupted babyhood with me because DD had started school 2 wks before her bro was born. Swings and roundabouts, I reckon, as with so much to do with child-rearing. Fingers crossed for the 6 yrs 9 mths gap we're headed for now [oops]

JJ LOL @ yr doctor friend pretending to be a Holby fan . Illegal raves! Will you be taking the girls to Glasto this year?

hedgepig · 25/01/2009 14:05

Tee (((hugs)))) sorry about your aunt it must be hard to be so far away at times like these, I hope your cousin is OK.

Weather is pants here today, we have been swimming and B is now playing cars (the computer hasn't been on yet). I know what you mean about girls being self limiting on games ermintrude, I was exactly like that but my brother would (still will) just play for hours.

jeanjeannie · 25/01/2009 14:29

Boys are definately able to watch a screen for longer than us girls. My DP can watch hours and hours of Scrap Heap Challenge or Ideal Home shopping channel without blinking

Yes, ermintrude we're thinking Glasto or The Big Chill....anywhere with tents, mung bean burgers and two foot of mud

Raining so hard here - it's flying past the window horizontally!

The new soft play place was lovely - full of horrendously skinny yummy mummies though. I do wonder how many of these dreary early 30s couples(her in Boden - him with yellow Pringle sweater tied around shoulders over a striped shirt) are going to continue affording their 4 wheel drive, executive home, humourless lifestyles. They were spending money like water; little Jocasta and Horatios were all in their Dior and talk was of entrance exams for public school We walk past with two snotty ones in Primark and lower the tone nicely

This afternoon I will be mainly trying to identify a spice I put into a jar- could be cumin or fennel seeds! And I'm checking the availability of local allotoments. Dig for Victory!

johnworf · 25/01/2009 15:28

JJ fennel is very aniseedy so should be easy to spot. Bright sunny day here with a hint of cloud but no rain forecast until Wednesday. Myself and DH went out for a walk with K in the pram and the dog, not in the pram.

I can just imagine the people at the play place. We don't have that problem in the area where I am JJ. I doubt whether there are many places around Manchester that do apart from the Cheshire set which isn't Manchester at all (and neither am I come to think of it as I'm in Bury...but nm). Sounds like a very shallow lifestyle.

DSS would spend all waking hours on his Xbox 360 and we literally have to tell him to come off it. He'll go on it straight out of bed in the morning and I've had to impose a 7am curfew start on it as he was getting up at 6am or before to start the days gaming Aspergers again methinks...but I think boys are just like that.

When I look back on the years my older 3 were little it was so bloody hectic all the time and hard work but back in the day, I had loads of energy and easily coped with it all. Now I'm frazzled with just the one LO and DSS

Managed to get myself a lambskin for the pram. Big girl day today as the carrycot turned into a pushchair I've also started her in the big cot for her afternoon naps in readiness for going into her own room. The crib is miles too small for her now...she waves her arms through the bars now like a prisoner begging for more bread and water

mrsboogie · 25/01/2009 19:19

arf at the imagery of K waving through the bars jw

had friends round all day (childless but not for much longer methinks) so haven't had a chance to post or read up on the chat but jeanjenie are you sure? an allotment? do you not have enough to do? or are you secretly wonder woman?

the lifestyle of the yellow Pringle sweater wearers sounds most enviable (not!) aren't people pulling their kids out of private schools all over the place?

mrsboogie · 25/01/2009 19:23

oh and speaking of how the other half lives - have a look at a website called adorabletots.co.uk if you want to see some gear to swoon over. The playhouses!!

jeanjeannie · 25/01/2009 20:31

Oh wow JW Princess K is in the pushchair! I felt with both of the girls - when they moved to the pushchair that was the end of the teeny 'baby' stage.

mrsB I love gardening and DP would be really keen too. I think growing stuff works for him when he knows he can eat it Plus, I reckon it'd be nice to truck down with the girls when they're older and do a spot of light weeding - and listen to them moan! My mate across the road fancies it too - so they'd be someone to share the load with. And think of all those turnips

OMG that website.... those playhouses I like the ones where they don't have a price. If you need to know then you can't afford it! Hahahah, lighting, wireless the lot.....when can we move in?!

Had FIL round....then DPs brother & girlfriend turned up - all unannounced...I love it when I don't know folk are coming and therefore no warning to get changed and I end up making tea with my ar*se lolling about in leggings

Tee2072 · 25/01/2009 20:49

mrsb for £3499 that cot had better change nappies, feed and cuddle. Holy cow!

I swear you can buy house in NI for less than some of those play houses!

hedgepig · 25/01/2009 21:37

I want the pirate ship!
I want the pirate ship!
I want the pirate ship!

Oh and a garden big enough to put it on

night night

mrsboogie · 25/01/2009 22:22

I want the princess bed! for meself!

nite xx

johnworf · 25/01/2009 23:08

omfg. They're def a second mortgage! I don't think I've ever met a baby wearing Fendi bootees

Can you imagine if you had one of those play houses in your back garden. Every kid in the neighbourhood would be knocking on your door.

Tee2072 · 26/01/2009 07:41

A person could live in one of those bespoke ones!

I am taking the day off. Slept really badly last night. I heard from my cousin today and she's doing okay, but it brought the tears back. I so hate that I can't be there.

hedgepig · 26/01/2009 09:03

Tee I hope you can get some rest and feel a bit better later on.

FloriaTosca · 26/01/2009 10:42

GRRRR! Just lost a long post in the ether!!!

Just saying;
tee (((hugs)))the hormones will be making emotional times like this worse ...go easy on yourself ...hope you feel more yourself later

Love the web site but OMG those prices!!! In their lighting section the Avigo ceiling light with the wooden plane mobile cost us half that price from a local shop! Love the twin stroller though..do you think one of those would be a good reason to try for another lo?
JJ & JW your los sleep patterns...and JJ,if Alex is still sleeping like this at 10 I'll be taking out that second mortgage, buying one of those playhouses and moving out!!!!

Off to the dentists in an hour...I've never felt my age before but having only just got over the worst of laryngitis and conjunctivitis I have developed an abcess on my tooth and have been in agony all weekend and the antibiotics my dental nurse SIL gave me on Saturday have upset my tum (she did say they might)...coupled with Alexs inability to sleep I feel ancient!!!!

... And I want another!

mrsboogie · 26/01/2009 11:24

oh floria that is nasty - there's nothing worse than an abscess poor you hope you feel better and younger again soon!

tee it is hard that you can't be with your cousin at his sad time. Maybe she could come and see you later? Hope you feel better too.

I am wrecked also - Mr D woke three times for feeds in the night - at 12.30, 4am and 6am. Full bottles each time. He seems to have increased his feeding frequency this week. OH reckons is is time to start feeding him stuff out of bowls. Not sure what to do as he is only 5 months still.

johnworf · 26/01/2009 12:00

mrsb you can start weaning from 4 months onwards so he'll be fine.

floria poor you. Really been in the wars Hope you're on the mend very soon.

Busy busy day here. Accounts need to be submitted to accountant today so no rest for the wicked

Laters.
