ermintrude - wow and wow! My hubby has just jumped up and down saying REALLY!!?? Fab wedding or what!

JW - have you chosen an organic box supplier yet? We use foodlife-doorstep-deliveries and they are really good quality and I think a good price. The veg is always top notch. I recommend them to anyone who is looking at veg boxes in the South Manchester area.

DD and I have just come back from visiting a friend who's over from USA and staying at her parents in North Wales. We trekked over there to see her and her gorgeous new baby and had happy cuddles.
An hour or so into the visit DD started scratching her tummy in distress then went all sleepy. So we lay her down on the new baby's play mat for a snooze. Five mins later she sat up and Vommed all over bl00dy everything. Nice. Especially the carpet. Was mortified as not even friend's house. Fortunately the mum has been a nurse so was lovely and cool about it.

BonzoDoodah · 18/01/2009 23:29

Oh ermintrude - meant to add - we love purple sprouting broccoli - just steamed -yummy. And red cabbage is delicious if you follow St Delia's recipe of baking it with apple and onion and spices- divine recipe

mrsboogie · 19/01/2009 00:26

mmmm.. speaking of veg I made [http://uktv.co.uk/food/recipe/aid/610688 this] tonight and it was fab. Wd highly recommend it. Lots of veg and replaced the rigatoni with whole wheat penne - its an Allegra McEveady recipe and I so love her cooking.

And speaking of poorly kiddies my little man has caught the cold from that effing visit to the nursery on Friday. First ever sniffles and snotters and he ain't a happy bunny so we are up v late.

johnworf · 19/01/2009 08:44

Aye, one of the problems with nursery is picking up all the bugs that are going around - and there's seemingly lots at this time of the year (hence we're locked up and hibernating until March). They will build up a resistence in no time at all though.

For the veg box I've already ordered from these guys DH spotted a smelling mistake on their website so think we're in for a bit of a discount on our first order I've asked them for no celeriac as I know only I will eat it. They're good in that they'll take out what you don't like and substitute it.

JJ how was last night? Any better?

mrsb hopefully D will be back to his perkier self really soon. Feel for him (and you) though in the meantime

ermintrude13 · 19/01/2009 08:45

bonzo I sometimes forget there are other ways to use red cabbage, I use that Delia recipe so much. Did it over Christmas twice because it freezes and reheats so well. And steamed purple sprouting broc is great too - it's when I have 3 veg that don't obviously go together but must be used before they wilt away that the probs start. But there is always soup!

mrsb that pork dish looks lovely. At the wedding I keep going on about (will get over it soon, sorry) they had braised shoulder of lamb noisettes - tastier than the leaner cuts and slow-cooked to the point of meltingness, served with a garlic jus and the best steamed spinach I've ever had - not sure how they managed to do that for 140 people, hats off to the chef. Mmmmm.

Sorry to hear baby D has the snuffles. I smugly sent my DD off to nursery thinking that all the breastfeeding would protect her - but that immunity only kicks in when they're older (and they never do get very poorly these days) whereas at nursery they catch every snotty thing going. Hope he feels better soon.

...and that everyone has caught up on some much-needed sleep?!!

jeanjeannie · 19/01/2009 09:17

Morning ladies. Well, DP slept on the sofa with Verity until 1pm last night - she screamed, threw up but calmed down a bit. Then she's been up 3 times since! Ermintrude cheers for that - sounds the same as us - nipple comfort. Will think about giving it a go at the weekend.

mrsB and bonzo sorry your LOs are feeling rubbish Iris still has a dodgy tummy - think that's from first nursery day too!

Oooo, veg box - we go through phases. We use RIverford. They don't substitute but after using everyone around they were the best. Abel and Cole box was almost bare! Yet, in London I lived round the corner from Abel and COle HQ and the boxes were heaped with goodies

jw like the idea of you working your way through a celeriac! Oh and red cabbage is a firm fave here. My dad salts it down and pickles it - gorgeous.

ermintrude That lamb (my fave meat) sounds gorgeous...I'd have been very excited. I get very animated if I like something! I'd have probably clapped!!

Oh I feel such a hefalump today Time to mither DP for a Wii... why when I type Wii do I alway type first WW1...? Not the same at all....

hedgepig · 19/01/2009 09:54

morning, a long night here too. It started so well with O put in his basket awakeish and falling asleep by himself woppee BUT then he woke ever 2 hrs for bottles & nappies (he is a little poo machine) yawn

Big hugs to our poorly LO's. MrB to put a positive spin on it, nurseries are great places for building up immunity .

Must go and clean the bathroom you can write your name in the mold on the tiles .

johnworf · 19/01/2009 11:09

hedgepig funny you should say that...my order from Lakeland has come this morning. Mould remover for the bathroom! Plus a grout cleaner and grout whitener. Rawk!

OOOh dear for little O waking up all night. You must be knackered too H Go and have a lie down with JJ

I like the look of your dish too mrsb but I'm off pasta at the mo. Shall save it for when I'm a couple of stone lighter (jeez, that sounds a looooong way off).

Is it weighing in day tomorrow folks?

Home alone again tonight as DH is playing bridge. Twice this week Cup match on Wednesday. I think that means that I should treat myself Any old excuse.

hedgepig · 19/01/2009 11:24

JW you will have to tell me if it is any good I am using some evil bleach stuff which stinks the house out. didn't get very far as young O woke up

lilibet · 19/01/2009 11:58

Good Morning one and all

Loads of hugs and sympathy for those with poorly and non sleeping children. It's not the best time to be dieting, is it, when you're tired and feeling low anyway.

I'm still on carbs, pretty hard not to when you're veggie. The best diet I ever did was Rosemay Connelly where you can't eat anythign with more than 5% fat, but my love of cheese won out over my love of a smaller backside.

I'm off to the gym later for the first time in yonks. It's not a proper gym tho' , i can't cope with that, it's this

Tee2072 · 19/01/2009 12:03

Had another horrible night here as well, with me waking at 3:30 for wee, and not being able to get back to sleep thanks to copious snoring from DH. Decided to have a duvet day and have just woken up! Feel much better!

Lots of sympathy for all the non-sleeping children. I said to DH this morning I can't wait for this baby to be on the outside. I definitely think I would rather be awake all night with an LO than just staring at the damn walls unable to sleep!

lilibet · 19/01/2009 12:27

Tee hugs to you, hope you are soon feeling better. A Duvet day does sound really good tho'

Thsoe of you who have veg boxes delivered, would you give me your opinion on this please. I have always fancied the idea but thought it may be very expensive, this firm has a branch in Wigan and to me seems quite reasonable but I'm a novice at this and so would welcome advice.

mrsboogie · 19/01/2009 12:53

tee a duvet day sounds just the job! and rest assured (no pun intended) that once the LO is on the outside you will not find yourself awake staring at the walls and unable to sleep ever again! (well until he or she is a rebellious teenager and hasn't come home by 2am)

I'd never be organised enough for a veg box - I go through phases - like now when I am on a diet and we go through veg like its going out of fashion - other times it would all be left to go bad - if I am busy at work or whatever. Anyway we have a little fruit and veg shop only a few doors down from the house so we have no need of deliveries!

Mr D had a restless night but after all the wailing he did actually sleep which was more than I expected. He is still sick but has reverted to his cheery smiley self thank god.

Have been to the dentist today for an extraction v painful tooth which had broken after a filling fell out when I was pregnant. Couldn't face dentistry when pregnant so left it until now. Got told I must try harder with respect to my brushing (gums also were fine until I got pregnant then went downhill) So I must go now and look for a really good toothbrush.

johnworf · 19/01/2009 13:28

mrsb I can thoroughly reccommend the Philips Sonicare I got for xmas. It's fabulous. Any my teeth (and DH's) are already much whiter. My checkup is in March so we'll see if it's made a difference

I'm trying to set a good example to DSS by eating lots of fruit and veg. His diet is shocking. I inherited the chicken dippers/smiley faces etc when me and DH moved in together and it's really hard to get him to change, what with the Aspergers and all.

lilibet your box looks good to me. Except yours has celeriac too Not sure I get bananas in mine. Must check as I'm eating lots of them.

All this fruit and veg has bunged me up. I'm usually regular as clockwork but nope, bum is on strike. I'd have thought it'd have the opposite effect.

lilibet · 19/01/2009 13:29

It's snowing very heavily here

johnworf · 19/01/2009 13:38

We have rain...and wind

Not sure if you pregnant ladies know about this. It's the first I've heard of it. Mind you, I shall not be making use of it

Tee2072 · 19/01/2009 13:59

There's been much talk of it on the pregnancy boards JW, but thanks for the link!

ermintrude13 · 19/01/2009 14:00

JW that has been mentioned on the pregnancy threads but thank you for flagging it up - must ask MW about it next time I go. I shall, of course, be spending the whole £190 on fruit and veg boxes and NOT cakes...

C'mon, surely it's worth getting pregnant for?

mrsboogie · 19/01/2009 14:08

yeah - if you could spend it on cake it would be

jw thanks for that recommendation - have had a look and the sonicare seems reassuringy expensive - any suggestions on where to get it at a bargain price?

ooh anyone seen he news about the premature twins born on Stornoway? 27 weeks. They had to be flown to the mainland by the RAF. Good job they were 27 weeks - quite poorly but if they'd come any might not have made it given the wait to get them into the special unit.

jeanjeannie · 19/01/2009 14:17

Phew - just come back from swimming with the girls and MIL - it was most fun - and energetic!

Hahahah that £190 for good food makes me laugh. We thought we were going to get it last year and had already prepared ourselves to splash out at le Manoir or the Fat Duck....I mean it does say good food - how much better could it get?

Sympathies all round to us tired oldies - poor hedgepig and tee

mrsB OUCH! I can second the sonicare - very good, very pleasing results. I need fillings replacing - been in there for over 25 years....Oooo, that's gonna cost...grrr.

Yes, I saw the twins story - flown onto the mainland...what a trauma. Thought of you jw - naturally.

It's turning really cold. Did someone say snow!

johnworf · 19/01/2009 15:35

Aye, as soon as I said no snow here, of course it snowed. It's really thick and even DH commented on how thick and big the flakes were Thanks lilibet for sharing

I got my Sonicare from Amazon when they were half price. Not sure if they're still on offer but Boots sometimes do them on offer too so they're worth checking out.

Saw the news of the twins. They're obvious first class flyers at a young age like K

Didn't get a discount on the veg boxes but got an email to say they'd be throwing in organic cheese and eggs for free instead! Woot!

Thought that the £190 payment would have already been discussed but just in case.......ah well.

Now to more pressing matters....pics of Madonna on DM website. I'm not sure I'd say she looked good for her age. More freakish. Discuss.

BonzoDoodah · 19/01/2009 16:02

lillibet - that box looks lovely. not sure we could get through 12 eggs a week though. Looks a good selection for the money. I suppose it depends if those things are what you would eat regularly. And how easy they are about you changing what you order - e.g. you have a million spuds left over one week - can you get a smaller box the next?

mrsB - poor you - I hates the dentist I does - hates it. Need to take Kalms before i can even walk in the door (double dose). Had to have an extraction a few months ago and was so freaked out they gave it me under sedation. Bliss! Almost like it didn't happen!

jw Looking forwards to £190 worth of Thorntons (I presume they do take those vouchers??)

mrsboogie · 19/01/2009 16:03

cheers jw

I think she looks good, if a bit daft, in the photos (those white knickers have a look of old fashioned sanitary wear about them IMO) Unfortunately if you look at pictures of her in her unairbrushed and unmade up state I think she looks dreadful and probably worse then she would have looked if she had left herself alone. The cheek implants are hideous.

speaking of sanitary wear - has any of you ladies ever used a mooncup (if its not an impertinent question ?

mrsboogie · 19/01/2009 16:08

I hate it too "Bonzo* the injections as much as anything. Last time I went I nearly fainted after and I'm not a fainting type of person. Couldn't even contemplate going while pregnant. This time the anaesthetic didn't quite to the job and it began to really hurt when she was struggling with the root but I just told her to carry on to get it over quickly.

My boss has to take lots of valium before going to the dentist.

johnworf · 19/01/2009 16:25

Seen the Mooncup but don't do tampons. Look like a good idea though

I've got a fab dentist now and no nerves with him. Think it makes a difference.

LOL@Thorntons!
