Ha Tee - love DH's comments - I'll have to try that one. Although my hubby is an angel and is doing virtually everything at the moment.

I had my best friend round for tea last night and I fell asleep, sitting upright, in the middle of our conversation (well friend and hubby were talking).
Woke up to friend sneaking off home snickering to DH. Sigh. Such a wonderful hostess.

ooh - spam! have reported!

hedgepig · 16/01/2009 12:29

afternoon, it seems to have gone a bit surreal in here? Hello BeanieB ((waves))

Bonzo lovely scan pictures they are so clear my always looked like a poor of mud (maybe to much covering in the way).

JJ I hope Iris enjoyed her nursery, she will probably be very tired this afternoon.

big sleepy cushions for all our tired pg ladies.

We went to the dentist for our check up today, OMG it was mad in there it took 15mins to check in, they have a new computer system which the poor lady on reception is not very familiar with in the end I was leaning over suggesting buttons for her to press to make it work , I don't think I broke it.
I had a lovely day yesterday Shopping! bought O loads of clothes he doesn't need (because I have all of Bs old ones) but they were so cute AND I tracked down a Wii Fit in John Lewis (well in Liverpool and they are posting it to me I'm so excited).

jeanjeannie · 16/01/2009 13:39

Ooooo - yes, surreal....spam

Hello beanieb!!

As you predicted hedgepig Iris was asleep before we pulled up outside the house - as was Verity! Now running around like a loon trying to get place a bit clean for guests tonight. Only trouble is - DP is halfway through dry-plastering a wall right by the dinning table... Think it'll be paella with plaster flakes for dinner

Bonzo good sleeping - upright too-atta girl

tee Anna Mouse - it's got a ring too it

ermintrude take the clothes/stuff and run! Once you've got it they can't ask for it back till you've finished with it!

We were wondering only the other day if the kids would enjoy the Trans-Siberian all the way to Mongolia and then live it large in a yurt....I mean it's only camping...but more so

hedgepig · 16/01/2009 13:50

JJ plaster has less calories than Parmesan and it's cheaper too .

BonzoDoodah · 16/01/2009 14:07

Hedgepig - my NHS scan was really blurry - my sister said it looked like a budgie! But hte scan pics i my profile are from teh nuchal fold scan - and as I said - she did about 4 diffent scan sessions trying to get it to move and it was much clearer - despite having to scan through an 18-tog-lard-duvet. I can't remember if I posted the hand pic - astounding .... will go and heck.

Tee2072 · 16/01/2009 15:55

Okay this ex-pat has another 'is this a British thing' question...

There is a thread about the poor ante-natal care some women are getting. And it seems to be mostly bed side manor issues, not so much the actual care itself. So why don't these women complain? In the US if someone is unhappy with something, especially medical care, you bet your life the practice manager or other responsible person would hear about it.

Personally, I have no complaints about my care. Every Midwife and Endo and nurse I have dealt with at my hospital have been wonderful. But if they weren't? You bet your ass I'd be making some noise about it.

johnworf · 16/01/2009 16:07

tee my care was fab and K's care (on the whole) was excellent. I guess it's like anywhere, there's always one bad apple. If it was me then I'd complain but a lot of [british?] people don't like to complain....just whine about it to anyone and everyone for months/years later. It's a British thing

Had BiL here today fussing over K and DS#2 is still here too. Had lovely lunch with him and DD#1 today. Very good I was too but very tempted by lovely walnut cake Really would have liked some but ah well. DD#1 commented I look as though I've lost some weight in my face (without any prompting either). Made me feel all the better foregoing the cake

jeanjeannie · 16/01/2009 16:42

AHhhhh - am fuming - have all the ingredients for the cheesecake and no darn tin!!!! RATS!! Well, we've all lost lbs by not eating it I suppose - but what can I do with all these blinkin blueberries, soft cheese etc? Perhaps I should race over to the recipes message board

tee My care with Iris was appalling - and I complained and got a hearing with the board of the hospital Unfortunately one of the midwives was fired (not just through me) and a case for negligence was almost filed against the hospital....It was THAT bad. I was infectious after C-section, they threw me off the ward (without even discharging me) and then let me in as a border into SCBU while I was seriously ill and ignoring me !!!!! I could go on - it was horrific. Previously they'd sent me home with my waters leaking telling me off for bothering them. Iris was seriously comprimised in the womb.

Upshot - complaining worked! 18mths later I had Verity and the care was SUPERB!

Forgoing cake eh....good girl jw excellent work

mrsboogie · 16/01/2009 16:43

its a very British stereotype tee the dislike of complaining, Americans are not similarly afflicted and its a standing joke about Brits in restaurants eating rubbish food and when asked how they are enjoying it saying *oh its lovely thank you". Same goes for the service you get when you put your life in other people's hands

oh jw i feel your pain on the cake front - had to drop D into nursery for a one hour session today and went off to marks for a bit of shopping. Dumped at the check out there was a lovely fat buttery looking walnut cake that someone had obviously had second thoughts about AND stacked up on the checkout a load of packs of yummy looking mini white chocolate and lemon muffins - wish I had had one of those while I still could

excuse typos - grumopy child on lap

mrsboogie · 16/01/2009 17:03

still, its not all deprivation round here - am having cheese omelette and a salad of red grapefruit with avocado and rocket for tea -

BonzoDoodah · 16/01/2009 17:08

JJ you could make what my husband calls "sex-in-a-glass" ...
Whip up cream and soft cheese or greek yogurt until sort of fluffy - whip in a bit of icing sugar if it's too zingy for you. Layer this into a large wine glass with a layer of dark brown sugar and then creamy whip, then fruit and then creamy stuff etc finishing with the sprinkling of sugar on the top.
The sugar melts into the creamy stuff in a divine caramelly sort of way and the zing of the cream/yogurt/cheese vs the fruit and sugar is yum!

mrsboogie · 16/01/2009 17:12

or get some meringues and make an Eton Mess type thing..

hedgepig · 16/01/2009 17:54

bonzo that sounds lovely.

Tee it is a cultural thing not to complain, I am particularly hopeless at complaining especially to medical people I just see a white coat & get a rabbit in headlights look and my brain turns to jelly.

ermintrude13 · 16/01/2009 18:15

Mmm, all this talk of food is making me peckish. Fortunately it's an M&S £10 meal deal weekend so the veg in pesto dressing are roasting beside the chicken breasts with mozzarella and tomato and the bread and butter pudding is waiting to cook as we eat. The cava will have to remain unpopped though as DH would get indigestion if he drank a whole bottle of fizz.

Thing is, once you're used to cooking good stuff yourself even M&S meals are a bit disappointing, but they save you having to have ideas on a friday night and they do feel like such a bargain .

JJ if other ideas don't appeal, you can prob make do with a pyrex or something? Ooh I love cheesecake - there's a white chocolate and ginger one I make that bakes for about 3 hours and is absolutely divine.

Sorry dieters. And congrats on resisting cakes.

jeanjeannie · 16/01/2009 21:52

Ladies - HUGE thanks for the ideas....bonzo oh wow - that sounds FAB!! In the end I just smashed some blueberries, whipped them into greek yoghurt, put whole blueberries ontop and added swirls of honey and flaked almonds - t'was alright

ermintrude that cheesecake sounds divine. I've never made a cheesecake before - it's sort of a challenge of mine; to make things I've never attempted before. It's up there with making a souffle, ice cream and a quiche.

Need an early night - Verity has howled all evening - I think it's teeth although there were some monumental f*rts eminating from her little growbag Just what DP's new beau needed to hear!! He took it all in good humour - he was terrible posh and very nice - even Iris liked him....she gave him her Tombliboo collection to hold

johnworf · 17/01/2009 09:18

Another 3am feed guzzled down in 2 minutes She was very good though and went straight back to sleep after she'd filled her boots. Growth spurt time anyone??

Boy George in the chokie.....whatever next!

This reminds me soooo much of what K used to look like Wishing this tiny toes huge 'get big' thoughts

mrsboogie · 17/01/2009 10:21

oh its such a sad story.

Have you seen the state of boy George - he has some sot of star drawn on he back of his head??

Tee2072 · 17/01/2009 10:59

Oh man, that is so sad.

And I must be a freak. Didn't someone one here say that my band size wouldn't go up, only my cup size? Well I was measured today and band size up 2 sizes, cup size still the same! But YAYAY bras that don't pinch!

mrsboogie · 17/01/2009 11:14

tee random question for ya - is it true that in the States your peanut butter is sweet rather than salty like ours?

Tee2072 · 17/01/2009 11:19

Well, no. I wouldn't call it sweet. Maybe a bit sweeter than in the UK, but still mostly salty. If that makes any sense!!

mrsboogie · 17/01/2009 11:32

sort of

johnworf · 17/01/2009 11:35

mrsb I was too busy looking at his (big fat round) face. What has happened to this man who used to be so uber fashionable? He looks like a fat, bald, middle-aged man to me. Still, he won't have any problems if he drops the soap in the showers

No idea what's happened with your bra size tee. Twas only my cup that went up to a D from a C...and now it's back to a C again

lilibet · 17/01/2009 14:02

Hello all.

I love the Prince Charming scan pictures - ok, so I'm a bit behind the rest of you, but it takes ages to catch up if you miss a day, you lot chat that much.

I'm another who loves cooking, really enjoy having people round for meals especially once some of them get over their disappointment of no meat, it's really a good way to spend an afternoon.

I have booked my holidays!! We are going here and are hopefully taking a mate for ds1 who will (hopefully) help him stay on the straight and narrow.

Jw I raise my hat to you in resisting cake.

Has anyone else unlocked the boxing on the Wii? It's grat fun and hopefully getting rid of my bingo wings.
