Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
johnworf · 14/01/2009 19:06

Well ladies, I admire you for wanting to further yourselves as there is no way I want to study ever again...for anything! My degree was enough for me. Looking at the course content it reminds me of O level English Lit.

Are nice feet such a rarity these days? What happened to yours over the years? Is it from wearing high heels? I've never been a consistent wearer of high heels and even at work have worn only sensible heels (under 1 1/4 inch heels) and maybe this has helped my feet. I've also got quite large feet for my 5' 2" frame at size 7.5. My mother says when I wear high heels I look like I have transvestites feet

I've heard about the pile cream under the eyes trick but never tried it.

Kerry Katona losing all that weight. Seems her hubby still isn't happy......bleugh. He's so......yuck! Looks as though he needs a good bath.

What's Posh thinking of laying around in her bra and knickers?

mrsboogie · 14/01/2009 19:15

blimey - they've made her boobs look real!
The words airbrushed, within, inch and her life come to mind

johnworf · 15/01/2009 07:10

Yes mrsb that is how I look too when I'm padding around the the house in my undies

See it didn't last long with Amy Wino...doesn't that woman have any dignity left??

And the pic of Boy George! Where was the airbrush when he needed it!

lilibet · 15/01/2009 09:40

Jw don't say that my second year degree course looks like an o level - I'll cry!!!

Those of you with older sons, what sort of holidays did you ahve when they were in their mid teens? The ones just before they were too old to come with you?

We have always gone to France on the very large campsites, but last years was a nightmare with ds1, I started a thread on it here. Dh read it and said I had greatly underestimated how bad he was . Any suggestions oh wise ones (and Tee in two weeks )

Dd went on a date last night, the first one since she came out of a three year relationship last October. They went to the cinema and she was home for 9.15!! Obvioulsy hadn't gone well.

jeanjeannie · 15/01/2009 10:46

Morning all. I gave up on the online tax return and my accountant agreed to do it with her software. There are so many blips on it that I couldn't put in what I needed to! She was appalled at how bad it was

Wow I take my hats off to you all studying...I'm like JW a degree was enough for me! I still have stress-related dreams about not having finished my collection and models going on the runway naked

Looks like I may have some freelance editing work though - it's a mag produced 4 times a year - that's plenty for me! May need to travel to Norway though ....best brush up on my Norwegien and the history of the Fjords!

Celebs and dignity. Oh, so few celebs even know the meaning of the word

lilibet no help I'm afraid....we've got that joy to come. We're still toying with the tents - looks like it's gonna be the Diablo - but which one?! Then I'll have to badger campers on MN for campsites not famed for their stag-nights and drinking orgies!

Just off to pick Iris up from her 2 hours stint at nursery. She was none too happy when I left her They were about to do painting - so that should perk her up.

Tee2072 · 15/01/2009 10:49

lilibet stuff him in a barrel and feed him through the bung hole until after the holiday.

Obviously I have no advice as I have no older children!

Too bad DD's date sounds so disastrous! Hopefully the next one will be better.

As for me, I'm so tired that DH looked at me sideways yesterday and I burst into tears. Can I start maternity leave now?

lilibet · 15/01/2009 10:53

When does your Mat leave start Tee?

Tee2072 · 15/01/2009 11:05

Not until beginning of June, at the latest, lilibet. I am trying to get my boss to agree to let me take all of my holiday time at the beginning of the holiday year (which starts 1st April) so that I can start on 1st May, but he's dragging his feet on it.

lilibet · 15/01/2009 12:09

Gary Barlow's wife had had a little girl called Daisy - sweet name.

jeanjeannie · 15/01/2009 12:58

Awwwww...sweet and to think I thought Gary Barlow was gay clearly my Gaydar wasn't working properly back then....well, it was before Sat-Nav!

Iris back from nursery and full of paint. Apparently they were given different things to paint with - one of them being toothbrushes..........yep, you can guess the rest - apparently she was thrilled with her blue teeth!

Quiet today ZZzzzzzz

Let's all wish tee's maternity leave closer.....*closes eyes, waves wand and sprinkles fairy dust

Tee2072 · 15/01/2009 14:28

Thanks JJ. I could certainly use the rest before baby comes and I get no rest at all!

johnworf · 15/01/2009 15:36

tee just wait until the baby is born..........................

Tee2072 · 15/01/2009 16:20

Jw but then I won't be working! I expect to be exhausted when I am not sleeping, but I am sleeping well and totally exhausted by the end of my work day!

BonzoDoodah · 15/01/2009 16:51

Ah Tee so am I - sleeping all the time and still utterly shattered. Hopefully this will pass soon.

I had my nuchal fold scan today. Little pesky baby wasn't playing and wanted to sleep curled up with its back facing us. I had 4 seperate scans with breaks for 1) turning on my side and back and standing up 2) jiggling around in the waiting room 3) having a drink of water and a wee 4) walking round the block in the icy wind then dancing salsa in the waiting room!
Finally it obliged and turned towards us for all of 2 minutes. All was well and the required stuff was there. woo-hoo.
Scan photos in profile - funny one of baby's arms crossed across its chest - a la Adam and the Ants video. Happy day.

Oh and last night I had a mad urge to bake so made Peanut butter and raisin cookies, Brandy snaps and chocolate-and-date-brownies. YUM. Especially fresh out of the oven with the chocolate pieces still melted ...mmmmmm.

mrsboogie · 15/01/2009 16:52

Oh give me tiredness form looking after a newborn over pregnancy tiredness ANY DAY!

hello all. Have been to the nursery to fill on forms/look around etc. Much fuss made of D. He is the youngest baby they have had for a long time (guilt )

Bought myself a TENS machine today to deal with the agonising shoulder as taking three different types of painkillers wasn't touhing it. Ooooooh but it is fab! Have never used one before.

Tee2072 · 15/01/2009 17:34

bonzo I'll be right over to help you eat all that.

mrsB definitely. Know I will be so much more tired once the baby is no longer in the interior. But looking forward to that tired!

DH just asked me if I wanted to empty the dishwasher or if he should. I said he should because I am over here resting on the sofa and making a baby. He told me that that excuse was getting tired and I could only use it for, oh, 5 more months. I told him he had a deal.

jeanjeannie · 15/01/2009 19:44

Evening all. Bonzo excellent news on the scan and LOVE the picture - you are having Adam Ant's baby

mrsB that's good you've done the nursery thing. And don't stress about the guilt - apparently we have a lifetime of guilt to look forward to....eek!

Tired...MMmmm, I seem to be an authority on that. However despite having had a 'child of the night'....I'd still take that, over pregnacy tiredness. There's something about the tiredness you get when you're preggie that completely consumes you - and swamps you with blinkin hormones too. Oh, how I bawled when tired and with-child!

johnworf · 16/01/2009 09:07

Morning ladies,

Great news on the nursery front mrsb. At least 1 day a week won't be so hard to do and will leave you with a few pennies left.

I only remember being tired up to 12 weeks and felt full of beans after that until I gave birth. I remember having afternoon naps on my older three after 34 weeks but it wasn't like the exhaustion I had in the first 3 months.

mrsb hadn't realised that you'd knackered up your shoulder so badly. How did you manage that? I know you were on the Wii but what happened?

I'm out for lunch today with DD#1 and DS#2. Off to M&S for coffee and light lunch. Already in a quandry what to do as they only sell pasta salads and sandwiches (it's a small cafe). Think I'll just have a skinny latte and a banana as really don't want to start on the carbs when I've done well without them.

ladymac · 16/01/2009 09:15

Morning all. Bit weird here as I am awake but Elizabeth isn't. Thought about sorting some laundry but decided it was a better idea to get back in to bed.

I'm always so tired after my 2 days of work. I think it's the combination of 5 days of looking after a 21 month old and 2 days of other people's children that does it. Even though it's lovely to have a job where I get home at 4.30 I sometimes wish I walked in the door to a fed and bathed toddler, just in time to read her a bedtime story. Or would that make me a dad?

How exciting bonzo that you're going to give birth to Prince Charming Apparently ridicule is nothing to be scared of!

Had an email from my lovely boy yesterday. He's leaving Vladivostok on saturday for a 3 week trip to Korea and Japan with another Cambridge student who's also doing his 3rd year in Vlad. I think it's brilliant he's going on this trip but at the same time I'm still sad that he's not coming back here for 3 weeks. He's been gone for 4 months now and won't be back for another 4 DD1 also studied languages at uni and did her year abroad in Granada, which was a bit more accessible (and affordable) for a visit. Plus she flew home every holiday. Girls are just more thoughtful!

Right, the washing machine calls. As does the kettle.

OP posts:
jeanjeannie · 16/01/2009 09:35

Morning all - just dropped off Iris for her first full morning - eek! Fingers crossed it goes ok

Yes mrsB run us through the injury again .....and how's it feeling now?

jw your restraint in the cafe will be amazing. I've got DP's sis and new beau round for dinner tonight. I'm doing a rice dish and finding it sooooo hard to be good I'm expecting another disappointing result at the next weigh-in.

ladymac Hahahaha - yes, a calm, clean home and child upon arrival does indicate that you are indeed a dad . I hadn't realised you worked with children.

It's a long time for your boy to be sooo far away. Now, I can see the appeal of Granada but Vladivostok has been on my list of places to go for years and years! I've an idea - I'll go and see him for you but then again, I imagine the fares are horrific Perhaps you could fly to Moscow and then pop onto the Trans-Siberian express....would only take about 10 days That's another thing on my list of 'must-dos'!

Cor what about that plane crash/landing on the Hudson in NY Blimey - I bet that pilot will be in demand. How amazing that it all ended so well.

Tee2072 · 16/01/2009 09:41

Morning all!

I was actually less tired during my first trimester! I am waiting for the 2nd trimester burst of energy to begin...

I am a bit concerned at those of you whom seem to be removing all carbs from their diets. Don't do that! You do need some carbs to be healthy! [done lecturing icon]

johnworf · 16/01/2009 09:43

JJ not read any news so far as work called first but shall look later. Have to go and pick up DS#2 shortly so it'll be this afternoon.

ladymac you're in training for them fleeing the nest for good eh? That's how I'd look at it. Both my older two now live with their partners in their own places. Youngest son will be off come September to uni so it'll be me and Katherine and of course DSS.

JJ same thing almost for you and Iris. It's all little steps towards the same thing. Not that I'm saying she'll be leaving home anytime in the near future! She'll be fine, you'll be worried/blubbing. That was me on their first day. All smiles from them when you go back and huge sigh of relief from you!

K woke at 3am last night and she's drinking milk for fun at the mo so think it's GROWTH spurt time

ermintrude13 · 16/01/2009 09:54

Good Morning ladies

Didn't post yesterday as I had meetings morn and eve and a long lunch with an old friend and ex-flatmate who, after swearing she'd never breed, had a little boy a couple of months after her 40th bd. He's nearly 4 months now, really adorable, and I got some good holding practice in. She's already offered me all of his clothes - which are expensive and beautiful - and any other kit I need, as she has sworn she won't have another. Should I trust her?!

ladymac, you must really miss your boy. I was talking to a friend whose 17yr old one and only child has just gone to live with his father (for the first time ever) to study for his A levels - his mum and her DH lives in the countryside too far from any good 6th forms/colleges - and she is dreading that he'll stop thinking of her place as home. But I reckon if his dad remains as useless as he has been all his life there's little chance of that. And she still gets hugs from her 6'2" baby. Dreading my boy leaving because they are useless at correspondence and phone calls aren't they? Must enjoy the next dozen years while I've got him here!

JJ ooh me too for the Trans-Siberian express! DH and I want to go Paris-Moscow - where they used to serve tea in samovars at the Russian border while they changed the rail gauges but that prob doesn't happen now - and then Moscow-Beijing. One day...

mrsb - little D will be the star of the nursery, doted upon by all and sundry including the other kids. They all love the little 'uns.

Bonzo hurrah for scan, can't wait for my 21-wk on 3 Feb!

Tee hope you're getting some zeds. I've gone all extra-tired again in the past week but haven't puked for TWO DAYS [GRIN]

jw If that were me I'd get myself so psyched up to ignore the sandwiches and pasta salads that I'd inadvertently pick up a clotted cream tea or a slab of chocolate cake by accident. Good luck!

Tee2072 · 16/01/2009 10:15

Yay on no puking ermintrude!!

DH and I had a brief conversation about names today. In that he was reading Private Eye and kept saying things like 'what about anna mouse' (anonymous)?

Thanks, honey, that's very helpful.

mrsboogie · 16/01/2009 10:52

mornin all

haha tee typical bloke!

don't worry tee I don't think we are cutting out all carbs - carbs is just handy shorthand for pasta , bread, cakes etc. I think we are all still eating things like porridge, sweet potatoes etc. There's sufficient carbs in things like that surely?.

the shoulder - well I've had it before - I think its a trapped nerve. While pg I had it at work - had to get one of those special fancy chairs for sitting at my desk and it went eventually which was lucky cos I couldn't munch painkillers then! I thought it was due to the bump and my changing centre of gravity etc but but it was never as bad as it is now. I was half joking when I said it was the wii or Davina that caused it - it could be anything. Happily after wearing the TENS machine all day yesterday on full blast it eased enough that I was able to get some sleep. Have a docs app on Monday - see if I can get referred to a physio or something.

Yep I think D will be the star in the nursery but he looks so tiny compared to all the great big lumbering one and two year olds thundering about. He is quite big for his age but he was sat in one of those potty -type chairs and just seemed so ickle. Still, yeah he will get lots of attention as most of the others are walking and sitting etc and he can't. There is one little lad only a baby - maybe a year old - there with hearing and sight problems and he was wearing glasses - looked so sweet! how the hell do they stay on him though?

ladymac how fab that your DS is having the adventure of a lifetime- you must be very proud.

ermintrude well done at not puking - didn't realise your ms was that bad.

jw shame Marks don't do those low carb lunches like pret a manger do - v handy for a lunchtime I find.
