Oh my god

The poor husband! Sounds like she wants a good kick up the ar*e!

hedgepig · 11/01/2009 17:49

good grief Ermintrude, how does he not kill her?

I'm shivering as I look back to my thoughts on sleep when B was little , I think part of it was my PND doing insane things to my normal reasonablemess but I read so many books that said if you huggled/rocked a baby to sleep or took the baby into your bed to sleep you would be doing it when they were 3 so I never huggled or rocked him etc so obviously he cried a lot and we got no sleep. Also tried CC when he was very little cos I thought that was what we were supposed to do , didn't work at all.

Needless to say we are doing things differently this time, ie everything you are not supposed to , it is so much more relaxed.

johnworf · 11/01/2009 17:50

Same here ermintrude. My DH wouldn't be woken up if I stuck dynamite under him although...he's done night feeds when K was tiny....he stayed up until 2am!

She's sleeping through now though and has been for a while. I've emptied her cot bed today (of clothes she's outgrown) in anticipation of the next few weeks that she'll be going into it. Probably introduce it for afternoon naps first then ease her into it. I have a gliding crib (wanted the amby but DH said too expensive) that is getting on the small size now. However, the cotbed is too big for our bedroom so she'll be going into the nursery when she goes into the cot full time. It'll be a blessing actually as her constant grunts and groans do sometimes wake me up (it's a prem baby thing). I'll still keep the monitor next to me though just in case she wakes up.

I'm finding at the mo I'm making up less bottles and using a few less nappies. Huzzah!

It all horses for coarses really and again, no set rules.

ermintrude I'm sat here feeling so sorry for this man I've never met. The poor soul for putting up with all that.

ermintrude13 · 11/01/2009 18:09

Aw, JW do prem babies grunt and groan more than full-terms? My DS was a worryingly quiet sleeper - I was always leaning over to check he was still breathing (and sometimes still do ) whereas DD used to sound like a snuffly piglet - which matched my feeling like a milk sow. Great that little K sleeps through now! And hedgepig, I bet most of us have tried 'methods' of one kind and another with DC1 which we'd never do again, and the great mercy is they won't remember it .

My sister used to feel sorry for the henpecked husband but these days she's a bit mad with him for being such a pushover and only bears spending time with them for the sake of her DH - who is one of the few friends the poor guy has left, oddly enough. Oh, and to make it all worse, the woman is one of those who says stuff about her kids like '"X's Mandarin teacher says she's never known an English 3 yr old pick up an oriental language so quickly" which she said right after my sis was talking about her own little one's speech therapy

Tee2072 · 11/01/2009 18:36

She sounds like a lovely woman ermintrude.

Of course, being a first time mum I have lots of plans. But being an older first time mum I can also accept that those plans will probably go right out the window once the LO is here!

DH is planning on saving all of his holiday time so he can be with us as long as possible after the baby is born, but once that's up, its up and he'll have to be at work, obviously. Then I can see me and LO moving to feeding at night in the nursery or our front room so as to not disturb him. I can also see him doing all the night feeds (if I don't BF or can express) over the weekend! He's considerate like that.

hedgepig · 11/01/2009 18:37

thanks Ermintrude, I think it is part of being a parent assessing what you have tried and then never doing it again.

O grunts and snuffels a lot too, at least you know they are still breathing. He is snoozing on my lap at the moment and doing baby snores ahhhhhh

jeanjeannie · 11/01/2009 18:51

Good grief - what an odd woman - me thinks her DH maybe under the thumb! My DP would also sleep through most things - I was amazed he woke up when there was the most terrific car crash outside the house last year. But that was only cos he thought our car was involved. He can annoyingly get back to sleep really quickly too

I think we should write a book - the 'old gals making-it-up-as-you-go-along guide to parenting. Give it a fancy cover and a few glossy weekend newspaper magaizine articles about us and we'll be raking it in

mrsboogie · 11/01/2009 19:13

We'll have to give it a poncey title though hedgepig if we are to really rake in the dosh

Good plan tee every day he can spend with you at that time will be priceless for lots of reasons (not least allowing you to wee/have a shower/nap in peace)

I did the same when OH went back to work - took over night duties but he claimed that it made no difference to his tiredness as he was woken anyway. I still do most of it in the week and he does weekends but even when he does it I still feel as tired as when I do it myself so maybe there's something in what he says. Of course we don't leave the room as neither of us would be arsed to get out of bed.

hedgepig · 11/01/2009 19:37

Unfortunately "The fat ladies club" has already been used but I'm sure we can think of something. I have always fancied my self as an author but can only write sciencey stuff not beautiful flowing prose.
Cooking apathy has set in and a Take Away is beckoning

Tee2072 · 11/01/2009 19:43

"The cake ladies club"?

hedgepig · 11/01/2009 20:01

very good Tee!

jeanjeannie · 11/01/2009 20:18

I've had a cake And NO, I'm not proud of myself!

tee I like it - has an Alexander McCall Smith feel about it!

"Cake! BOOBIES! and the Art of Baby Maintenance"

mrsboogie · 11/01/2009 20:22

perfect jeanjeanie!

ahem. I had one Very Small biccie last night.

oooooooooooohhh Dancing on Ice!! I love it.

mrsboogie · 11/01/2009 20:25

ditto hedgepig re writing and sciencey stuff

johnworf · 12/01/2009 08:11

Morning ladies (in Boycey voice over).

ermintrude yes, prem babies grunt. A lot! I was warned before I left SCBU but you don't hear it on there as it's busy. She sounds as though she's straining to do a poo, wanting a cough, crying (but she's still asleep) and a whole other range of farmyard animals inbetween. We were prewarned by SCBU staff before we left but I thought they were overegging it...not so. I was talking to one of the other prem mums I bumped into at a check up clinic and she told me she'd had the MW, the GP and her own mother out to look at him as he was so loud. Totally normal and she moved him into his own room aged 1 month as neither she nor her DH could sleep with the noise! Actually K's is waining slightly as she gets older but she always does it while she is trying to get herself to sleep.

DH has done the night shift usually by staying up until it's due as he's hard to wake too I've found I've gone from a moderately light sleeper to someone in a coma once I'm in bed. Can't hear a thing usually so he has to get up on the odd occasion she wakes during the night

Hospital run this morning for her bronchiolitis jab. Penultimate one for this season. Woot! Starts again in September so we have respite until then. However, she'll be getting one in each leg by then as she'll be heavier so it's a trade off

When is weigh in day this week?

hedgepig · 12/01/2009 08:53

morning, I am so tired. O is doing the hand chewing dribbling stuff and would only sleep last night in our bed, I never seem to sleep so well when he is in with us. we have talked about this before, but I can't believe he is teething 3 months it too little.

Just thrown B & DH out of the house, there is a faint chance they may get to school on time .

good news about the jabs coming to an end JW, but they have given her the protection she needs this winter so that is fab.

I was half thinking about going to the shops this morning, but it is very wet and I hate the rain cover on the buggy faff.

hedgepig · 12/01/2009 08:53

weigh in is Tuesday ekkk, must eat some more lettuce.

Tee2072 · 12/01/2009 09:23

Morning all.

YAWN.

That's really all I have to say on this Monday morning.

jeanjeannie · 12/01/2009 09:37

*Crawls in on knees...sobbing

Verity awake every two hours.....yelping, fist in mouth -- my nipples now look like chewed up old dog toys WHERE are these teeth?? hedgepig I'm with you in sympathy.
and thanks for reminding me about Tues - I shall join you in a nibble of lettuce

jw penultimate jab - woooh hoo Nice too cos you can almost use it as a guide to the weather getting warmer!

I'll second the prem noise! Iris was like a small warthog. They didn't tell us in SCBU and I remember ringing them a few days later after we'd come home to ask if it was something I should be alarmed about!

Another lack lustre day from me i'm afraid - gosh I must get motivated

hedgepig · 12/01/2009 09:57

JJ (((big hugs)) poor you, at least once O was asleep he stayed that way for 4hrs. can you get any rest today?

mrsboogie · 12/01/2009 10:24

oh jj poor you [sad} naughty old V.

At the weekend we often stay up until late feed is done 2am as I find it easier to do that than wake after sleeping for a short while. Last night D slept from 2 til 7 then went back down til 10am.

To amuse ourselves we watched a couple of episodes of a funny off beat sitcom called How not to live you life that OH found on the i-player. Has some v funny moments.

Well I have been on the new eating exercise regime for a week ladies. Have been really really good with food - no bread, potatoes, pasta rice etc. Mostly salads, veggies, lean meat etc. No sweeties except one biscuit. A bit of exercise most days.

And guess what? I have not lost so much as an ounce of fat! same weight as last week.

johnworf · 12/01/2009 12:27

Oh dear mrsb....are you weighing yourself at the same time each day wearing the same clothes (or no clothes as the case may be)? Don't give up just yet. I see that 75% of people have given up their good intentions already and we're only 2 weeks in!

I've had a splendid morning. K had her jab which was ok and I also had a stand up row in the doctors surgery with a large queue of people watching the floor show. Not gonna bore you with the details but it was mighty quiet in there when I left

I'm in the mood for a fight now I've got my hackles up so I'm gonna get Davina out and see if I can beat her

JJ sounds like those teeth are almost there but not quite. K is dribbling all over her tops and the fists never leave her mouth. I had a look in my DD#1 baby progress book and she was 5 1/2 months when her first came through so we're a bit early yet.

Yes, warthog sounds like a good description of the noises. That's what K is. A warthog going off to bed dressed as a baby

Well done Charlotte church on her little boy. Not well done Kate Winslett for blubbing as she received her award....oh dear, very Gwynnie.

Right, just ordered some stuff from Lakeland but missed off 1 thing off my order. If anyone is interested E18 gives you free delivery.

Tee2072 · 12/01/2009 12:45

JW being nosy I want to know what the fight was about...but you don't have to tell...

JJ much sympathy!! Just remember, this too will pass, and when V's a teenager you'll wonder how to wake her up!

mrsb sometimes it does take a week or so to kick in, so don't give up hope!

jeanjeannie · 12/01/2009 12:52

jw well done on a stand up row! I'm thinking some sour-faced old trout disguised as a 'helpful' receptionist was behind it all

Oooo, cheers for the Lakeland code - have a small (but interestingly formed) order

mrsB I've put on 3lbs - gutted. I think it's the reaction to having got all my size 12 trousers down from the loft - the pressure was too much!!!

Aww, yes, well done Charlotte. Can't imagine Gavin was much help though... She seems the sort of bird to be clearing up afterwards and making tea for everyone. I'm rather fond of old 'Churchy' she's an old-fashioned, plucky bird.

kate Winslett - apparently that was a real shock - as she's British, and there were rumours that they were only going to give the big awards to Americans - to boost the feel-good factor in the States! Did she blub? Oh Dear....not another 'you love me' speech. These stars are so needy!

hedgepig no rest today. Iris appears not to want a nap and I'm spending the afternoon making some food for Verity, Plus I'm fuming at the tax office online registration. Been waiting yonks for my activation code - but have only recieved my user ID - which is no use at all....GGgrrrrrrr!!!!

mrsboogie · 12/01/2009 12:55

does it tee? I thought the weight was supposed to fall off in the first couple of weeks? Please let that be true No doubt my metabolism is fecked after years of on-off dieting.

I will stick with it as I have no option

Ooooh Lakeland? might have a gander as I wanted some nice glass bottles from there. Bit of shopping would be nice to cheer me up.

Oh go on jw what was the fight about? do spill!

hedgepig D has been doing the slobbery fisty chewy dribbles for weeks and weeks and no sign of a gnasher yet.

One good piece of good news ladies is we have been offered one day a week at the work nursery! yay! only £80 a month. He will spend the rest of the week with either me, OH or grandma so we are very lucky.
