I started bleeding last night, bright red blood, I rang my MW and she told me to go to A&E. A&E examined me, and sent me to the ward. A gynae gave me an internal examination, he said my cervix is closed (well as closed as it is after I have already had a DC) and there is no bleeding around it.
The bleeding had slowed down to just spotting by this point, I have an early scan on Tuesday morning. He said it looks like a threatened misscarrige

I have started bleeding again now and I have some pain in my lower tummy and back

I feel your pain! I had bleeding at around 4-5 weeks - some spotting, but thought it was nothing to worry about (had read about implantation bleeds). I went to my 6 week check and the doctor was quite concerned about it and I felt awful for not going to get it checked. We went for a scan the following monday (this was a friday) and everything was fine, but I can remember the anxiety very clearly. DS is now 11mo by the way, and currently fighting to get out of his highchair

Hope everything is fine for you when you have your scan.

HallelujahHeisBorntoMary · 27/12/2008 08:36

Can you see someone today?

belgo · 27/12/2008 08:36

I'm sorry. How many weeks are you? It still may be ok, many women bled but go on to have a healthy pregnancy.

But some women do miscarry. I miscarried almost exactly one year ago, and it was one of the blackest moments in my life. I was fortunate to conceive successfully three weeks later.

Look after yourself.

DustyTv · 27/12/2008 08:42

I am approx 11 weeks (I can't remember the exact date of my last period so may be give or take a few days)
Pregnancy with DD who is now 13 mo was fine. This one has been okay so far but very different to DD.

I don't think I can see anyone today unless things take a turn for the worse.

The bleeding isn't very heavy but it is very noticable, I have had none in my underwear/pad but it is when I wipe, there is a lot, sorry about the TMI

I am not sure if the pain I am feeling is actual pain IYSWIM, I could be just noticing things more because of the bleeding if that makes sense to you. (wishful thinking)

Rest and look after yourself. If it gets any worse, I think you should go back to A&E.

CharleeInPantoPaperChains · 27/12/2008 08:53

Rest with your feet up, if its going to happen it will what ever you do but hopefully it wont. I beld through my pregnancy with both my ds's and they are now 2 and 4.

All the best. x

DustyTv · 27/12/2008 08:55

Thank you. It's good to hear positive outcomes when others have had bleeding in pg. I have been googling (I know I shouldn't) but it doesn't all look bad. Apparently many women who bleed in early pg go on to have the baby.

I keep flicking between sheer panic and an odd calm/numbness. I feel like it is not really happening at the minutes I am oddly calm

good that your cervix was closed. if you are not losing clots, and it is not getting any worse, it might well be ok. lots of women ahve bleeding in pregnancy, especially aroudn the time they would have had a period

it is natural to fear the worst, but only time will tell. nothing you can do to prevent it becoming a miscarriage if it is going to happen,

so sorry you are going through this

DustyTv · 27/12/2008 09:42

I know, DH was very worried last night and I just kept saying, it's part and parcel of life, but I don't think it had totally hit me.

I am trying to be positive.

I have my DD so I am a hell of a lot luckier than others. But god I feel so weird.

Lulumamaloveslatkes · 27/12/2008 09:45

of course you feel weird. hope all turns out ok for you x

DustyTv · 27/12/2008 09:57

The pain in my back an tummy have died down now and the bleeding has stopped, so all good signs. I am feeling a lot calmer.

Hi Dusty and sorry to hear you are having problems. I have had spotting and bleeding in both my pregancies (two episodes in each, both in the first trimester) and it is apparently not at all unusual. Have you had a scan to check heartbeat and growth- if these are within normal range I was told that then bleeding is often innocent.

Hope all settles down for you

DustyTv · 27/12/2008 10:38

Not had a scan yet, was booked in for one on the 5th Jan but they re-booked me last night for the 30th Dec.
I have been looking at private scans to see if I could get one earlier, but they are really expensive. Not sure if I can wait until the 30th though.

I am trying t stay positive, the bleeding has stopped and the pain in my tummy and back has gone. I keep getting twinges but not sure if I am just picking up on stuff like that more because of the bleeding.

The bleeding is back, but it is very mucusy, similar to a show, but again not a lot of it. I have an aching type pain in my lower tummy, should I call my MW again?

Do you have an early pregnancy unit at your hospital where you can just turn up/ring them?

stuffmyturkey · 27/12/2008 12:17

That sounds like a good idea
You must be so worried x

I hope they will give you a scan to reassure you

PheasantPlucker · 27/12/2008 12:18

Totally agree re EPAU. Can you give the hospital a call, and check if they have one and when they are open?

DustyTv · 27/12/2008 12:19

Yes we have an early pg unit, not sure if open today though, I will ring them and hopefully they will be there.

I am sorry to hear this. I dont want to get your hopes up but I bled with DD and Dr told me it was almost definitely a miscarriage and there was nothing I would be able to do about it, just rest.

DD is currently 2.5 and watching Totoro! I recall the anxiety well, the expectation at the scan that it would not be good news and the shock and delight that she was still there.

I hope things work out for you, big hugs x

mediocrebronze · 27/12/2008 12:23

I'm sorry you're going through this. Having had mc I understand the stress but For a good news story. I started bleeding at 11 weeks with my last pregnancy. They did the same as you have checked and scanned and no obvious reason. I carried on bleeding continuously after that. Normally it was as heavy as a period at other times it was like weeing blood (sorry if tmi). It came with numerous aches and pains and eventually my waters started leaking. My dd was born at 27 weeks and yes it was hard and the stress was enormous but shes now upstairs wreaking havoc with her older brothers aged 2 and absolutely fine. I hope this helps you stay positive.

IAmTheNewQueenOfMN · 27/12/2008 12:27

I am so sorry to hear you are going through this
I hope everything turns out fine

lollypop101 · 27/12/2008 13:27

Get yourself down to early pregnancy unit to ease your mind. A family member of mine bled quite a bit through her pregnancy and is now a proud mother of a 3 yr old boy. Hope all turns out well for you too.
