I started bleeding last night, bright red blood, I rang my MW and she told me to go to A&E. A&E examined me, and sent me to the ward. A gynae gave me an internal examination, he said my cervix is closed (well as closed as it is after I have already had a DC) and there is no bleeding around it.
The bleeding had slowed down to just spotting by this point, I have an early scan on Tuesday morning. He said it looks like a threatened misscarrige

I have started bleeding again now and I have some pain in my lower tummy and back

Hi Dusty,

I had early bleeding and at my first scan was told baby was 'of questionable viability'. I'm now 33 weeks and bubs is kicking away madly as we speak. Get yourself to the EPAU for peace of mine, but I'm sure all is okay...

Will be thinking of you.

treedelivery · 27/12/2008 14:41

Just wanted to offer wishes and support. x

xxhunnyxx · 27/12/2008 14:55

I bled a few occasions at the beginning of this pregnancy and (touch wood) everything is fine.
It also happened to my mum when she was pregnant with my brother, they signed her off work for a couple of weeks and she went on to have a perfectly healthy pregnancy.
I know it's easier said than done but try not to stress and worry about it too much, it'll only do more harm than good, and there's no point in stressing over something that you have no control over.
I hope everything turns out ok hun, I've got all my fingers and toes crossed for you. Sending lots of baby dust your way xxxx

DustyTv · 29/12/2008 08:17

I didn't go in as I couldn't get hold of anyone at the early pg unit and I didn't just want to turn up. The bleeding actually stopped, but I started to get period like pains then

The bleeding came back last night, it was like a medium to heavy period with pains, but it all seems to have calmed dow now.

I am dreading the scan tomorrow but also cant wait to find out one way or another. I still feel oddly numb, like it isn't really happening to me. Like I am looking in on someone eles life and not my own.

This baby is so loved and wanted I couldn't bear the thought of loosing it, and having to tell family that there will be no baby. Well not yet anyway. I can see why people don't tell family and friends of a pg until after 12 weeks now.

I keep going through things in my head, trying to see if there is something I have done to cause this. I feel so guilty on xmas day as I had a sip of my mums wine when having lunch. I mean I know that it could not have caused this but I still keep thinking, what if I didn't have that sip, maybe I wouldn't be going through this.

Other than that I have been really strict with myself, like I was with DD, but it is still happening.

OP posts:
WinkyGirl · 29/12/2008 08:36

I am sure a sip of wine would not have made any difference. Dont blame yourself, though I know its hard not to.
I have had MCs but also bleeding in both successful pregnancies. And I remember people reassuring me just how common it is.

Have you got company today to keep you distracted?

juuule · 29/12/2008 08:42

Dusty, don't blame yourself. If you are miscarrying (which isn't definite) then it's not going to be due to anything that you have done. I've had 8 confirmed m/cs and eventually I got to the stage where I realised that nothing I did would have caused them.
The only thing that I did was take things easy if I could. I had a huge bleed at 12+ weeks with one and it was due to the placenta separating slightly. I took it easy and the bleeding stopped and the pregnancy continued.
Please don't be thinking that it's something you have done that's caused this to happen. You'll just be torturing yourself unnecessarilly.
Hope that you get good news at your scan.

DustyTv · 29/12/2008 08:42

Yes, DH is off work until the 5th, I am so glad he is here.

I just don't know if I can wait until tomorrow for a scan, but I am so scared about what I will see.

Did you have bleeding all the way through your pg's? or just at certain points?

DustyTv · 29/12/2008 08:48

Thank you.

From what I have read googled the amount of blood I am loosing isn't actually an awful lot in comparison to others who loose lots of blood. Its not pouring (sorry tmi) just spotting and when I wipe I tend to get more.
Apart from last night when it actually filled a pad full But them stopped.

I never know what to expect when I go to the toilet. I keep remembering that feeling of awful dread when I first saw the blood on boxing day, I just sat and looked at it until it hit me and rang my mw.

Hi DustyTv
Thought I'd share my experience with you. Hope it helps.

I am currently 15 weeks and have had bleeds at different intervals of this pregnancy. The first was at about 6wks, then 9wks and the last major bleed, with clots, was about 12wks pregnant. On each bleed I filled at least one pad, then like you I would bleed and only really notice it for the next few days on a thin panty liner or when I wiped, which was almost every 10mins.

On each bleed I had an early pregnancy scan and on each occasion I was told everything was ok. I know exactly what your going through. I really is a dreadful time having to wait for tomorrow....nothing else fills your thoughts.....

The good news is, all might not be lost. Still bleeding now as I write this, but have settled in the thought that this one is just a bleeder and won't worry unless something more occurs.

Hope all goes well for you tomorrow. Has the bleeding turned brown yet? That would be a good sign....

DustyTv · 29/12/2008 10:53

Waiting2Exhale, thank you for sharing your experience with me.

The bleeding hasn't turned brown yet, it is either very bright red (just like a period) when I wipe or pinkish spotting and sometimes kinda mucosy similar to a show, but not a vast amount of it.

Do you have any pain? Even when I am not bleeding I have some horrible pain, ranging from a dull ache around my hips lower, back and tummy, to full on period pains.
The period pains are quite bad and sometimes take my breath away.

Last night I started to get a shooting pain down my right leg followed by a dull ache, which is still there. It is bearable but uncomfortable IYSWIM.

DustyTv, I'm sorry you are going though this. I bled with ds1 around 7wks and went to A&E, they told me to go home and rest and that I'd probably miscarry. A few days later I had a scan and he was fine. I had loads of pain with his pg. I also had some bleeding with my subsequent pgs, not as much, mainly spotting.

Please try to rest as much as possible.

DustyTv · 29/12/2008 11:17

piximon, thankyou. I am trying my hardest to rest but it is not easy with a 13mo, just gald that DH still has a week off work.

I am starting to go stir crazy at not going out, even for a walk. I have been holed up in this house since boxing day night and I am so bored. But I daren't go out for a walk, even thoigh I know that if I am going to miscarry there is nothing I can do to stop it.

I wanted to go for a walk to town and have a browse round, go for a coffee (decaff of course) and just chill out for a bit with DD and DH.

Dusty - fresh air and a change of scenery might do you good. It wont effect what's happening, and it may make a big difference to your state of mind...

DustyTv · 29/12/2008 11:59

MrsNewYear, DH just said the same thing to me, we are just going out of the door now. Town is only a 5-10 minute walk away from our house so its not too far and if need be I can come straight back home.

I am feeling okay in myself now, the pain has subsided to a dull ache and the bleeding has all but slowed down to a light spotting. So I think you are right a gentle walk to town and a change of scenery and fresh air will do me more good than bad.

belgo · 29/12/2008 12:10

Yes I think you should go out for a little bit.

Let us know what happens tomorrow at your scan.

stillenacht · 29/12/2008 12:13

I had this at 11weeks plus 6 for my first DS. I went to a rehearsal and whoosh - blood everywhere - i carried on bleeding on and off until i was 16 weeks (with DS2 i bled from 13-16 weeks). Fingers crossed for you xxxxxx

juuule · 29/12/2008 12:19

Dusty - maybe take some paracetamol for the aches. If they subside you might not be as fretful. I took paracetamol when I felt that the aches were too insistent. Sometimes because the pain is there you can't think of anything else.

I agree that a walk would probably do you good.

WinkyGirl · 30/12/2008 07:24

Hows things today Dusty? Hope everything goes ok at the scan x

Flihgtattendant · 30/12/2008 07:30

Good luck with your scan today Dusty, hope its good news.

DustyTv · 30/12/2008 14:28

Thank you for your thoughts, Its all good news. All went very well at the scan . LO is still with us and we got to see the heart beat. DD was transfixed on the screen

The bleeding has stoppeed for the time being but I still feel very cautious so not trying to get to ahead of myself IYSWIM.

Aw. XXX!!!

Thats brilliant. Don't blame you for still wanting to be cautious but I'm really really pleased that the scan today shows all well.
