Boys arrive early and girls arrive late?

Just out of curiosity.....Someone recently told me that their midwife told them that boys tend to arrive early and girls late. Her reason for this was that girls need the extra time to make themselves pretty before they show their face to the world!! This person also said that for everyone that she knows that has given birth recently, this has been proven to be the case.... While I know I can't absolutely rely on this being true, just wondering for how many of you with previous babies this was the case?

Hi pinkmarshmallow i don't know how true that is, but my son was 2 days late.

sorkycake · 20/12/2008 12:54

how old is that m/w? 82?
Bolleaux!...and sexist...and slightly worrying that she's employed by the NHS and giving out pearls like that tbh

misspopov · 20/12/2008 12:55

2 girls both exactly two weeks early - so not the case for me!

Lulumama · 20/12/2008 13:35

what a load of stupid and sexist crapola

babies arrive when they are good and ready, and the reasons why labour starts at a particular time are not even really understood

i had a boy, induced one week early, and a girl, born exactly on her due date, my sister had her DS almost 2 weeks early. and me and my sister were born 6 weeks early.

i would really hope the MW was not being serious when she said that!

sorkycake · 20/12/2008 13:36

That was at 10.30am, nothing from her since
