Hi,

Does anyone have any experience of really premature rutured membranes ?

My waters went on monday as a result of an infection i picked up having an emergency stitch put in last week.

Babys fine and the stitch is still holding, i've not gone in to labour but obviously this is a grim situation and we're likely to lose our baby boy.

I'm on some wacking great antibiotics which are making me feel hideous but i have been discharged from hospital, there is nothing mroe they can do there apparently so i am home on bedrest praying babys lungs develop and he stays put for a few more weeks to at least give him a chance.

Does anyone know anyne who has been though this ?

Hello !

Thanks so much for the message of congratulations and hope and prayers and love over the past 6 weeks or so. You would not believe how invaluble this site has been in making a really shit time barable

I have just been discharged and my goodness it feels good to be free. Dfs running round after me and although i came back to the house being abit of a mess i've put him straight to work tidying it up ;)

Thanks Lorna for updating this for me (( hugs))

Right then, where to start. On the 28th i had what i thought was a massive contraction and then a show so we went in and was examined but my cervix apparently looked fine and they couldnt see where the blood was coming from so they admitted me for observation. I had a few tightenings over night, nothing which came to anything really and only a little more bleeding, no-one seemed concerned. The next day nothing again but that night i passed a massive cot and started having tightenings almost immediatlly which came and went for the next few hours alogn with bleeding. Several Drs came and went along with a fair bit of head scratching, I think we all thought it was my cervix and were waiting for someone to give them the go ahead to take it out. At about 9 the consultant who put the sitich in came to see me, he sent me for a scan to see how big baby was and how he was laid as he thought i'd be better off having a section, i was fine with that although was bloody terrified at the prospect of the classic incision so he said i'd be able to try for a vag birth if i wanted too i just said i'd do whatever he thought was best. He said he's take the stitch out and see how we got on. He had a look and was confused to see my cervix looking completly normal so he gave me an internal and at that point i started bleeding really heavily so he must have dislodged something, Cons said " we're going to surgery now, you need a section" and legged it.. me, Df and my MW all just looked at each other.. eeeeek.. panic set in. 10 minutes ater cons appeared again and i was wheeled in to theatre and given a spinal block and a normal and fairly uncomplicated c section resulting in the birth of my small but pefectly formed Son George Adam Jukes at 1058, he was 2lb2oz. We didnt get a look but were told he was breathing my himself and protesting, my relief was immense.. my boy has lungs !

I was stitched up and told that the bleeding had come from an abruption not my cervix and that if we'd tried for a natural delivery it would have been disasterous for both Me and my Son.. My cervix was apparently closed and the stitch was intact, so after all that the one bit of me that caused me al these problems was the only bit that did its job !

Anyway i wont bore you to death with tales of my stitching or anyting so i'll cut to the important bit we went down to meet George a couple of hours afterwards and he is LUSH, completly miniscule and red and scratched from being wrenched out but alive and kicking and beautiful

We have been so luck this far, I feel blessed.

Thank you all again, i'll get on with posting some pictures now

and one more

Hello and welcome back

That all sounds very dramatic but good - the sound of a newborn protesting is just the best thing ever isn't it? Hope you continue to heal well and that George is thriving.

NorthernLurker · 02/01/2009 12:31

Oh lovely photos - he is beautiful. Well done!

joyfuleyes · 02/01/2009 12:31

Oh worzel congratulations! I cried reading that & seeing his pictures - what a beautiful, precious boy. You've done a fabulous job getting him here safetly I hope the c-section recovery is straight forward.

lou031205 · 02/01/2009 12:32

He is scrummy! How lovely for you both. Heal up and enjoy him x

cyteen · 02/01/2009 12:34

ohhhhhhhh my goodness, i am so so pleased for you all...so tiny and precious...WELCOME GEORGE! and so very well done Worszel, be proud of yourself, you are awesome

this thread made me get a bit of grit in my eye

cyteen · 02/01/2009 12:35

and although i am not one to pick up on typing slips usually, i must admit that you made me lol (in a nice way) with "i passed a massive cot"

Ewe · 02/01/2009 12:37

Wow, huge congratulations! What a little trooper he is, been following this thread and so happy to read the good news.

morningpaper · 02/01/2009 12:40

wow, congrats! All the best for 2009

Aitch · 02/01/2009 12:47

oh worzel, that's fantastic. he's utterly gorgeous, of course. we were a bit fascinated by dd2's baggy knees for the first few weeks (she was born at a comparatively hulking 33+6) but they soon fill out. congratulations!

WorzselMummage · 02/01/2009 13:15

Oh dear about massive cot.. that may have been a tiny exageration on my part

The section was a terrifying prespect as i am sure it is for everyone but i'v been surprised thus far about how easy its all been, it was pleasent by any stretch of the imagination but not as bad as i'd imgined atall. Recovery's going well, i've been to tesco already so i'm sure i'll be back to normal in a few weeks

Not driving is going to be a right PITA though, is it normal to actually wait 6 whole weeks ?

Aitch, Baggy knees are lush aint they.. swooons !

joyfuleyes · 02/01/2009 13:21

Glad you're recovering well I was fine to drive after 3 weeks (would've been okay earlier I think but was quite happy to walk most places) - I called the insurance company & they just said as soon as you feel well enough it's okay, so three weeks it was.

NorthernLurker · 02/01/2009 13:24

Mamag had a section a couple of months ago and I think she mentioned driving - because she had to - maybe see if you can find her and ask her what she did?

Suedonim · 02/01/2009 13:29

Oh, congratulations!! I hadn't seen this thread before and have just read it all, holding my breath until reaching this happy, happy conclusion. I am impressed by little George's fine head of hair at such an early age! Well done, everyone.

JustKeepSingingCarols · 02/01/2009 13:30

How wonderful!
And love the pics, he's so dainty and perfect, glad his lungs are powerful!

I had a c-s last Jan and was more than ready to drive at 4 weeks, so did, just a little way, and was fine.
Docs and Insurance basically said it was up to me.

Good luck and enjoy!

Bicnod · 02/01/2009 13:37
