Boy or Girl - calling all experts on guessing the sex (angle of the dangle etc) what do you think?

This is starting to drive me bonkers, but reflecting upon a couple of things that the sonographer said at my 12 week scan I realise she had a pretty good idea of the sex of my baby - I was just so filled with relief that everything was ok that I didn't click that she was subtly trying to find out if I was interested in knowing the sex.

Although I would love to, I can't write a letter to her with an sae saying 'excuse me, but desperate to know sex and think you may know'.

chutnymary said that at 12 weeks it is something to do with the angle of the dangle see this page

If anyone knows a little about this...here is the scan picture

hmmmmmm that looks suspiciously boyish to me. I have 2 ds and at both 12 week scans you could clearly see a little appendage. Don't take my word for it though!! Maybe girls look the same?

You could always have a 3D scan a bit later on to find out for sure.

MatBackFeck · 24/11/2008 15:20

X post yes you could definitely tell from the scan at 12 weeks with both of mine - they are reluctant to say that early just in case but both did with the proviso that it was early and both were confirmed at 20 weeks and in 3D scans later on.

I think maybe seeing a will confirms it but if you dont see one clearly could be girl or could be wrong angle or whatever?

MatBackFeck · 24/11/2008 15:20

Yes, I thought the same matbackfeck but the website says that the labia starts quite big and then gets smaller and says it is something to do with the angle. It looks quite 'willy-ish-' doesn't it!!

Is it just me? The link takes me to techs profile page and his mugshots, lol.

MatBackFeck · 24/11/2008 15:26

i thought so but I have never seen a girl scan at this stage. Is it your first? do you have a preference? great that he or she was happy and healthy at 12 weeks anyway. Still fun to speculate though!!

Midwives go on about the heartbeat - fast = girl or something - get them to speculate at your next check.

daisy5 · 24/11/2008 15:26

Which link amiwhatandwhy - the website or the scan piccies?

MatBackFeck · 24/11/2008 15:27

that happenned to me first time! are you married to tech daisy?!!?!

daisy5 · 24/11/2008 15:29

We have no preference at all - we just found out early last time and loved knowing early on - we loved being able to say 'her' instead of 'it' and generally had a lot of fun with it all.

OP posts:
daisy5 · 24/11/2008 15:29

How odd, don't know tech at all!!!!

MatBackFeck · 24/11/2008 15:34

me too daisy - no preference but cant understand people who dont find out and wait til the birth - we love finding out at the 12 weeks scans and get all emotional and teary - make sit seem more real to us although never cared which gender. Also like to get on with thinking of names etc and at the births am too busy screaming "get it out!!!" to care what gender we have.

It's not tech's baby is it? {JOKE!!!}

I can only see Tech's Profile to!

CharleeInChains · 24/11/2008 15:50

Oh got yours now. can't tell.

At our hospital you can tell and it's been 100% acurate so far out of the 10 babies i have tried it on.

Next to the mum's name and at the top left corner for all boy babies there was a Y to the right of that writing and the girl babies didn't have one. (look at ds's scan photo on my profile)

Not sure if its the same for other hospitals.

By the way i am not implying that i am some master at telling the sex of babies its just a little funny thing i picked up on whilst nosing at friends and my own scan pictures!

daisy5 · 24/11/2008 18:56

charleeinchains - it was a private scan, so they wouldn't have the same system I guess. Shame. Thanks for looking.

OP posts:
MatBackFeck · 24/11/2008 19:57

if it was a private scan and not that long ago I reckon you could phone them up and ask them to offer their professional opinion!

daisy5 · 26/11/2008 10:36

Thanks MatFeckBack. I think I would be a little embarrassed. It is a week ago now and I suspect she wouldn't remember.

FlirtyThirty · 26/11/2008 10:52

charleeinchains - I have just read this and looked back at my scan, and I have a 'Y' next to my name! Does this definitely mean I'm having a boy?!

rainbowdays · 26/11/2008 11:34

Sorry looked at both pics and really can't tell, it is easier to see during a scan, but with a photo, it could be a bit of the umbilical cord in the photo in the "right" place. But if I had to guess I would probrably go for 60% chance boy, but the second photo looks a bit more girl-like to me!!!! I guess you will have to wait for the next scan!

The sonographer at my local hospital got the genders right at early scans with my children. Infact my 12 week scan was much clearer with my dd than my 20 week scan!

minxi · 26/11/2008 12:38

I am expecting DC3 already have 2 DS, just checked scan pic of DC3 and it has a Y - was hoping for a girl but I guess that what will be will be, can't find other scan pics to compare and check against the others!
Can everyone check there scan pics now so we can see if there is any truth in the matter..

TheProvincialLady · 26/11/2008 12:42

I know I am expecting a boy - the sonographer confirmed it and I saw the evidence for myself at 20 week scan - but there is no Y next to my name on any scan pictures. Maybe different hospitals use different scanners/printers that don't do the Y thing?

pooka · 26/11/2008 12:42

On other thread a few people who had girls had a Y next to their details.

Doesn't seem to be a hard or fast rule.
