Boy or Girl - calling all experts on guessing the sex (angle of the dangle etc) what do you think?

This is starting to drive me bonkers, but reflecting upon a couple of things that the sonographer said at my 12 week scan I realise she had a pretty good idea of the sex of my baby - I was just so filled with relief that everything was ok that I didn't click that she was subtly trying to find out if I was interested in knowing the sex.

Although I would love to, I can't write a letter to her with an sae saying 'excuse me, but desperate to know sex and think you may know'.

chutnymary said that at 12 weeks it is something to do with the angle of the dangle see this page

If anyone knows a little about this...here is the scan picture

Reply - oh, Pooka where is this other thread you speak of...I'd love to check it out!

I have to admit to being surprised that the hospitals did soemthing so obvious (if it's true).

Otherwise, I'm also keen to hear from mums who know sex and can check their scan pics for the illusive 'Y'.

think this is the one.

Thanks Pooka - seems that it likely means something else. I suspect 'Y' for 'Yes'... only who knows the question?!

Fun though. x

Thanks rainbowdays - I kind of agree with you - one looks under 30degrees angle but the other looks a bit closer to call. The annoying thing is that I realise now that she had a strong hunch and I didn't ask.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

i have 2 boys and asked to know the sex at all scans and was told likely to be or definitely boys at all scans, NHS and private and there is no Y anywhere on any of my photos.

I would be very surprised if the Y means boys a s anyone with any scientific or medical knowledge would knwo Y can mean male determining and I really don't think the hospital would put an opinion on a scan - the only definitive way is to look at the chromosomes in an amnio or CVS and there you get male of female on the report - even then they ask you in the phonecall first if you want to know. They could get into all sorts of problems if a Y on a scan photo meant boy as peopel would complain if they hadn't wanted to know, opinion was wrong etc.

Unless a sonographer sees a clear willy or you have a genetic test you will have to wait and see what pops out!

i don't know what the y is in the corner but it's not the sex - my dd has a y in the corner of her 20 week scan and I was told at then she was a girl. My ds has an x in the corner of his! I think it's something totally unrelated tbh
