Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
jeanjeannie · 15/12/2008 08:30

Morning all.

Iris coughed all night. I now have a very wingy 2 yr old and Verity is ratling a Galt mini book and talking to it - jw it does make you melt doesn't it!

Dp has trapped wind and we all knew about it - so I've had no sleep again - despite Verity sleeping 6 hours straight!!!!

Am attempting to get to a playgroup this morning as I have Xmas cards to liberally distribute.

Am also waiting for Verity's bum to explode as there is still no sign of the HUGE amount of carrot that went in at the top end yesterday. May need to rethink the white babygrow and cardi outfit !!

johnworf · 15/12/2008 08:40

hahaha JJ the exploding arse episode!

Oh dear @ OH's trapped wind Has he tried Andrews or Windeeze? I take it by keeping you awake he's been farting all night? Luvveryly.

I suppose that babies tums have to get used to new things in there so the bum part is on a catch up?

hedgepig · 15/12/2008 10:32

babies bottoms - they are so lovely

It is blooming freezing here and the engineer won't be here until tomorrow my complaint were greeted by "thats pretty quick for this time of year" it is not what I am paying for grrrrrrrr

Off to Argos to buy a fan heater.

johnworf · 15/12/2008 11:25

hedgepig has your heating broken down? Are you covered by British Gas or someone? If you are, get on the phone to them and firmly tell them that you have a very young baby in the house and you demand that an engineer call this morning. If not, you shall be complaining to Ofgas and if your baby gets ill bacause of their incompetency, you shall sue.

That's how I'd play it anyway. No, I'm not subtle but I get things done

hedgepig · 15/12/2008 11:45

JW i have a contract thing with homeserve, the same sort of thing as BG. I have tried the young baby and no heating or hot water but no luck until tomorrow. They are very clever with their documentation, there is no commitment to when they will turn up. The agreement is up for renewal in March and I will defantely be looking around

myjeansaretootight · 15/12/2008 11:54

Hedgepig have sent you an e-mail can you get back to me?
Also if you have no luck with Homeserve give us a call as I have friends in high places .

mrsboogie · 15/12/2008 13:32

mornin' all

thanks for that jw have sent a link to a website selling manhattan toys to the OH who is entranced by them

Jesus jw I never realised just how ill Katherine was in the early days. Sounds bloody terrifying. Not surprised you smoked a load of fags.

Hi all

Busy busy busy here as usual. Just been catching up with all the weekend news and mrsb sorry I missed it yesterday but Happy Birthday. My how young you are!

Deaf playgroup this morning, they had taken over the grotto at our local garden centre and had a signing Santa. Elizabeth wouldn't go near him of course, looked him up and down in a suspicious way and clung to my leg. Sensible girl.

Had 2 nights out at the weekend but couldn't get a babysitter for Sat night so drove to Surrey first to leave her with DH's parents then back round the M25 to Berkhamsted where my brother's girlfriend lives. They did a sit down dinner for 24 in a marquee in her not terribly big garden. Ate fab curry and played party games, including the one where you thread a spoon on a piece of string through your clothes to join your team together It was one side of the table v the other and I was crying with laughter whilst trying to fish the spoon out of my neighbour's skinny jeans. Luckily I was wearing a frock! Was very jealous of everybody drinking copious amounts of alcohol, but at least being pregnant means we don't have the 'who's going to drive' row discussion.

jw thanks for looking in to the perfume for me. Typical mum, she said she'd actually prefer a purse if I hadn't already bought anything else. Hit the big M&S near my in-laws yesterday morning and got an Autograph one there.

Was so tired last night that I only managed to write 5 cards. Got stuck on one to an old friend who I never see but we always swap news at Xmas. Her card told me that her breast cancer had recurred last Xmas and this year she had been quite ill with all the treatment. She is now minus one breast and both ovaries and is the same age as me, 45. And I got stuck because I didn't know how to reply - how to tell her my news without it all sounding a bit like 'Sorry to hear about your ovaries, mine are working fine and I've conceived yet another baby'. Any ideas of how to word it?

ermintrude13 · 15/12/2008 14:16

hedgepig, hope you have thermal underwear and lots of blankets! what a time of year for the bloomin' boiler to go.

jj, have the windy bottoms in your household all calmed down now?

jw i dread to think what a scriver is but hope k's bloods are good and that you can tick off yet another treatment she no longer needs.

ladymac, i'm sure your friend will be happy for your good news. it must feel awful having to follow sympathy for her bad news with a pregnancy announcement, but better than just not mentioning it to her. i'm sure you'll word it sensitively, it won't seem like one-upmanship, and she'll be understanding.

on a more frivolous note, i'm really annoyed with sainsbury's today. they have boxes of 5 fresh filled donuts on offer at 2 for £1. it's appealing to people's unhealthy greed for sugar and fat and their inability to resist temptation. i've just eated a jam one followed by a custard one and don't think i can blame the subsequent feeling on morning sickness. bleerugh. i may have to sue them.

ermintrude13 · 15/12/2008 14:18

PS Thornton's offer still on, 25% off everything. code XBN3.

mrsboogie · 15/12/2008 14:22

ta ladymac hmm that's a difficult one - you don't want to sound too excited and proud of those youthful ovaries for fear of being insensitive and you don't want to sound apologetic either 'cos that's silly. How about saying something fairly jokey along the lines of "oops silly me, got caught - thought I was past all that" even if its not strictly true?

ladies - am wracking my brains trying to think of a baby-related pressie for OH for Christmas - he bought me those lovely photo frames and put photos in. The presents I have got for him so far are really boring and I want to give him something a bit more thoughtful. Anyone a bit more soppy than me got any ideas?

ladymac · 15/12/2008 14:29

mrsb I did a plate for DH for Father's Day with Elizabeth's footprints on it, at one of those paint your own plate shop/cafe places.

johnworf · 15/12/2008 14:33

ermintrude a scriver is the heel prick they do on babies. They look for different kinds of things and typically in a term newborn it's for PKU although I have since found out they they screen for cystic fibrosis but don't tell you (I only found out by chance that K had been tested and she's normal). She's having this scriver as it's 4 months since her last transfusion and it's just a formality to check that her red blood cells are up to scratch.

mrsb what about something highly cheesy like a mug with 'i love my daddy' on it? Or is that far too cheesy? I've got new harry potter book for DH from K and DSS.

ermintrude totally agree on the donut front....and on a more serious issue, booze. Far too cheap in all supermarkets. Why is there never 3 for 2 on bananas or broccoli?

johnworf · 15/12/2008 14:34

mrsb who is entranced by the Manhattan Toys - Darragh or your OH?

mrsboogie · 15/12/2008 14:41

jw OH - he thinks they are lovely - which they are! unfortunately we are more excited by toys at the mo than Darragh is!

I don't mind cheesy, was thinking maybe a little photo frame for his desk at work..

ermintrude13 · 15/12/2008 14:42

jw, ouch, didn't know that's what it was called. someone told me about the cf test they do - don't know why they don't come clean about it; it's a useful thing to know. poor little sausage, hope she yells at the nasty nurse and her needle!

mrsb i agree with the mug idea - photobox.com do lovely quality mugs and you can upload a photo for them to print on it with your own message. i did one for dh with a gorgeous photo of the kids and 'love you dad xx' on it - naff but heart-wrenching. actually, i thought the photo came out too dark so they did the whole thing again for no cost so now he has one at work and one at home . i also got him a notebook with lots of pics on it, and did a calendar for the grandparents. they do special offers around now and i've been impressed with their prompt service.

do you think i'll manage another donut or two after tea? fortunately the booze offers don't tempt me at the moment, although i suppose i could start stockpiling. every time we've tried to build up a 'cellar' it's been a fortnight of alcoholic excess; now would be a good time to do it for real!

ladymac · 15/12/2008 14:47

ermintrude I shall boycott Sainsburys on your behalf, or perhaps I should say on behalf of your behind

mrsboogie · 15/12/2008 15:02

I was told about each of the diseases D was being tested for - including cf.

OP posts:
jeanjeannie · 15/12/2008 15:05

Hello all....some serious Poo'idge' going on here and Iris has a really bad croup cough - going to ring the doctor.

mrsB I second ermintrude on Photobox as I've just ordered a calendar (grandparents too) and a small mini 'boasting' book as loads of DPs clients ask about the girls - so I've got him a tiny little booklet of pics that he can pop in his wallet. They also do cute fridge magnets and desk diaries. Although i found the website really slow since its 'update' I've done some stunning photobooks through Yophoto - absolutely amazing quality.

JW gosh - 4 mths - has that gone quickly or does it seemed to have crawled by? So hope you get another thing to tick off the list - and fingers crossed for good news on Weds

ladymac glad to hear Elizabeth eyed up Santa suspiciously. We bought a pic from our visit to see him as it's hilarious. Iris's face - glaring at Santa - it's sooo caption-worthy!

hedgepig that's shocking service Is it actually worth the money? Pah - and thrice Pah to them..... Have you got balaclavas?

I see the man who has plunged the banks into yet more turmoil with his biggest scam ever in the history of finance is called Mr Madoff - pronounced MADE-OFF. Yeah... didn't he just - the clue is in the name

hedgepig · 15/12/2008 15:28

MrB you can also get mouse mats with pictures on

Tee2072 · 15/12/2008 17:20

Hi all

Had another bad night last night sleepwise and didn't go to work. Spent the whole day out like a light!

Tomorrow is my 12 week scan! I cannot wait!

mrsB one year my MIL got us all mugs with pics on them from Photobox, they are very cool. Mine has a picture of DH at our wedding, looking at his watch while waiting for me!

Donuts? Did someone say donuts....

jeanjeannie · 15/12/2008 17:31

Poor tee I reckon you should make the most of getting in that sleep. Around 4pm (my witching hour) I could have slipped off into a corner and still be there asleep now! Darn these blinkin children....foiled my dastardly plan to have a nap

Oooo, and still on the photo pressies theme - there are coasters, tea trays, towels....and don't forget the jigsaws....all crowd pleasers!

12 week scan - how fab!

Yes, donuts..........MMMMmmmmmmm.
Oh, Oh - I've just remembered - I've got another pack of mince pies......... Must eat dinner first though!

mrsboogie · 15/12/2008 17:48

thank you ladies - am looking on photobox etc. Sure to find something there!

OP posts:
johnworf · 15/12/2008 18:35

Gosh I'm knackered.....it's great having lots of orders but bloody tiring doing them whilst balancing a baby on one knee

Glad you've got an idea for your OH mrsb

Since K came out of hospital it's whizzed by. Can't believe she's almost 7 months old

Ok mrsb asked my MW today for her last visit about the fists in mouth and the spit bubbles. She said a) spit bubbles mean they're getting almost ready for weaning. The stomach is making extra gastric juices and therefore they have more oral secretions. She's told me to think about weaning Katherine around the week after xmas if she seems ready for it. b) fists in the mouth is normal development for their age. She said they're discovering their hands and their mouth...and soon everything will be going in their mouth

You'd think K was my first as I sat there with her saying 'really'? and 'ohhhhh well I never knew that'. lol

I'm in serious need of a mince pie and sending DH out to get me some. Girls night tonight as it's DSS's panto at school and DH is going to watch...ahhhhhhhh

Just chuckling at you and your OH mrsb and the manhattan toys! K has a scarey clown by them and loves it! She's bashes it up

tee good luck with your scan tomorrow. Take lots of change for the scan pic machine. Some tissues to cry into . And also make sure your OH keeps you chatting or get a mag as I found it excrutiating having to hold my wee in without going to the loo.

mrsboogie · 15/12/2008 19:04

hmmm....hope D isn't getting ready for weening yet - its too soon - he's only fourteen weeks. Unfortunately he will be five and a half months when I go back to work so weening will coincide with him being left in the care of strangers

His feeding is gone haywire at the mo - he will have a bottle at 5 or 6am then sleep for hours and not have another one till the afternoon. He has only had two since 5.30 this morning. He will make up for it by feeding all night!

I always thought the dribbles and bubbles were down to teething, he has the hottest reddest cheeks today!
thanks for the info jw
