Tee2072 · 12/12/2008 07:15

Good morning.

Not a good day. Exhausted and totally nauseous. Yeah, not going to work. Going back to bed as soon as DH leaves for work.

Did someone get the number of the bus that ran over me?

johnworf · 12/12/2008 07:54

What's this? A new game? Name the baby then think of another random name to refer them by? Excellent I think a lot of boys were named after their father so to avoid the confusion of say, two Jacks in the house, they called the younger Jack by their middle name. My ex FiL was named Arthur Ian but everyone knew him as Ian. In fact when he died, my sons were amazed that wasn't actually his first name! No confusion with my name as I have only the one...no middle names nor sunday best (and no teasing at school either!).

Well Tesco 'sale' looks like a pile of poo to me. Same old same old. However, XBX8 still works for a 25% off Thorntons (and 12% Quidco too). 3 fer 2's finish tomorrow.

I can see the attraction of a bit of rough with the hairy bikers - although not at the same time Not settling down nor fathering material but a roll in the hay would be ok. Obviously you wouldn't want to be on the bottom

lilibet · 12/12/2008 10:55

Oh Tee, you go back to bed with some cake, take care of yourself.

I've had the tummy bug too ladymac spent time running form the bed to the loo and only just making it on more than one occasion or should that be becasue that was the colour of my skin.

We have had the carpet fitted but there is a small hole in it which the cats will play havod with if they find it, so we are waiting for the shop to get back to us.

I got my Radio Times for Christmas this week, do you other oldies remember being excited at what the films would be as there was usually a big premiere? BBC would have bought one film and ITV would ahve got another. Now I am just very excited about Dr Who.

jeanjeannie · 12/12/2008 11:18

tee poor you - definately tea and CAKE! Oh and the duvet too.

Lilibet I do remember being excited about xmas tv....and mum and dad would always be thrilled by the variety programmes such as Generation Game - the Two Ronnies or Morcambe & WIse. Non of that these days. But yes, Dr Who has still remained strong...bit like Take That....disappear for a decade or so and then return bigger and better I like to think of getting older like that

Just come back from visiting nursery - we loved it and so did Iris. The kids were really having fun - everywhere was bright, messy and they were mainly 30 somethings looking after them all. Plus the lady making the home cooked dinners really knew her stuff ....she'd got RIverford veg boxes and meat from the local butcher - today's dinner was melon and ham, shepherds pie and home made lemon curd tarts and yoghurt....MMmmm Oddly enough it was less money than the corporate one down the road?

I got mince pies while we were out. tee sending one your way. Duck down, it's coming over NOW!!!

lilibet · 12/12/2008 11:23

Oh lemon curd!!!!

I love lemon curd

Tee2072 · 12/12/2008 11:37

Caught it JJ! Thanks!

After going back to sleep from 8 until about 2 minutes ago, I feel a bit better. Now just have to figure out what the heck to have for lunch!

Cake sounds like a good idea, actually....

ladymac · 12/12/2008 11:41

lilibet it wasn't very nice, was it? I seem to be okay now, except for my hair which hasn't been washed since monday so I must go and sort that out now Elizabeth is having a nap.

Am going to attempt some shopping at Brent Cross this afternoon even though I have a rather moany baby. Yes, we're back to playing that lovely winter time game called 'Let's Catch Every Bug Going'. Have to bath her in the mornings just to wash the snot out of her hair. Nice.

jeanjeannie the nursery sounds fab. Do you think they could fit me in at lunchtimes? When is Iris going to start?

ermintrude my lovely nephew (11) is a Stanley. It's a great name. I see that Grace came up in every post on the 'most common girl's names' thread. We didn't know a single one when we named our Grace 12 years ago. There is another one in Grace's year at school but considering her school is 9 form entry I don't think that's bad going. Elizabeth always features in those annually published lists too but I've only met grown-up ones. Think you have to go with what you like, what suits your baby, what goes with your surname etc.

ladymac · 12/12/2008 11:43

tee have you got a nice girlfriend who could pop in with a snack and a dvd?

Tee2072 · 12/12/2008 12:21

ladym unfortunately all my nice girlfriends work too far away to pop around even on their lunch hours!

I managed to make a nice salad and some pasta, so I'm okay!

lilibet · 12/12/2008 12:25

Tee you'll jsut have to put up with us then if no one nice is around

so how ya feelin?

Tee2072 · 12/12/2008 12:31

Better, lilibet. I had a nice sleep after DH left for work. And I may go have another one after lunch!

lilibet · 12/12/2008 12:38

Nothing like an afternoon siesta to perk you up a bit.

Do you have exciting plans for Christmas or New Year?

Last one for many years where you don't need a sitter - make the most of it

johnworf · 12/12/2008 12:42

Manchester is a big fat no for congestion charge. I voted 'for' it as well

And uproar in Oldham where the kids are told there's no santa. Mind you, in Oldham, they're mostly muslim anyway so guess there is no santa

Tee2072 · 12/12/2008 12:46

Oh, yeah! Siesta it will be!

We are going to PILs from 23rd to 27th, which is always nice. They never let me help when I am not pregnant and now I am really not allowed to help! I started to help clear the table after dinner when we were there about a month ago and practically got shouted at!

We never do much on NYE. Its really expensive, for one thing, and for another we both really hate crowds! So we'll probably do our usual of a DVD and maybe go to sleep at 11:59 just to spite the New Year!

jeanjeannie · 12/12/2008 12:49

Brent Cross...! ladymac you're a braver woman than me. I contemplated Eden (our inappropriately named shopping centre)but stopped at just thinking about it...I'd not got the stamina.

Since we've put Iris into a proper bed she sleeps so much better at might - but afternoon naps have hit the wall. I can hear her upstairs banging about and when I went in I found all her toys in the bed and her out of it Oh well, she's doing 'imaginative play' which I believe is the technical term for it these days!

We start Iris at nursery for 1 morning a week on 2 Jan. It's a free break-in period so I'll go with her for an hour - then two etc, etc etc.

Agree with you ladymac on names suiting your last name. I loved a couple of names in particular but with a very eastern European surname (that most folk fail to pronounce - VIC is pronounced the same as VITCH - but you should hear some folk on the phone - they fall to pieces when they try to say it!) then I thought something 'Englishy' would make them less likely to be marked out as coming from a certain place.

Off to rescue Iris as it's gone quiet and I reckon she's fallen asleep on the floor

jeanjeannie · 12/12/2008 12:58

Oh I just heard that about congestion charge. Ahh, they'll probably just enforce it instead

No Santa in Oldham.... Why? Is he scared of getting Sleigh-jacked?

Talking of Muslims (not to be confused with muslins - which I get through loads of!} there is a mass protest outside the new meeting house up the road from here. There were armed police outside the other week and it's part of a controversial mosque...I think the locals have revolted. There is some anti-semitic literature plastered up on the windows (from the inside looking out) and other not-so-nice pamphlets floating about re-killing Christians..... Nasty atmosphere knocking about as up until a year ago the site was a catholic church! It's really a gentle residental area so I think the DM masses are revolting!!

Ah - it makes my times living in the heart of Brixton seem positively tame!

johnworf · 12/12/2008 13:19

JJ it's the story of the supply teacher in oldham who told the class of 7 year olds that there isn't a father christmas...it was their parents that bought all the presents.

Cue the upset, stage left.......

jeanjeannie · 12/12/2008 13:26

NO! Shocking. What a miserable old bat

Well, Iris had managed to get the child lock open on her wardrobe open - climb in and pull all the clothes off the rails and half put on a dress

johnworf · 12/12/2008 14:34

After securing our house many years ago with fridge locks, cupboard locks and socket covers, I discovered that once these plastic marvels are in place that children suddenly take an interest in things that they normally wouldn't notice....like fridges, cupboards and plug sockets.............

mrsboogie · 12/12/2008 15:32

well afternoon all,
just back from having hair done (love it!) 'twas all long and manky before and with bits of paint in and now its a shiny fragrant bob. For today anyhoo.

Mr grumpychops, as he is currently known, was looked after by OH'S mum and behaved like an angel. He is currently not taking more than 2ozs of his formula in one go and very grizzly with it. Met her to pick him up in a bistro place where he was contentedly gazing over her shoulder at the Christmas tree in the most serene manner possible. As soon as me and OH turn up and put him in the buggy its purple faced hysterics time while Mil and her two mates look on agog at the sudden change!

When I went to pay for hairdo the girl said oh no - your parent's mum popped in and paid yesterday! What a lovely surprise! This is on account of it being my birthday on Sunday you understand not just extreme generosity

My DS1 's name is Robert!

ermintrude13 · 12/12/2008 15:45

mrsb, I was going to say, what a generous grandma you have

mrsboogie · 12/12/2008 16:03

speaking of inflicting terrible names on children:

"Bronx Mowgli Wentz is officially the worst celebrity baby boy name of 2008, according to website BabyNames. Over 5,000 members voted the three-week-old son of Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson as having the worst male moniker of 2008.

The worst celebrity baby girl name of the year was awarded to Jagger Joseph Blue Goldberg, the nine-month-old daughter of Punk'd creator Jason Goldberg and former Punky Brewster star Soleil Moon Frye.

Other names to make the list included Sophocles Iraia Clement (Jermaine Clement and Miranda Manasiadis), Barnaby Borstein Douglas (Alex Borstein and Jackson Douglas) and Atalanta Baez (Carolina Herrera and Miguel Baez).

Oi! Bronx Mowgli!! get in f'yer tea!

johnworf · 12/12/2008 16:35

jebus! What are these people on?

I dunno if anyone remembers when I was pregnant and toying with the name 'Gaia'? I really did like it but it's got 'gay' sound in it and it's a bit off the beaten track. Katherine would be heading for the door marked 'teased mercilessly' on her first day at school so we chose Katherine instead
