Are Due Dates the biggest con going?

Do you know anyone who actually gave birth on their due date? - I don't. I was going to add excluding c-section but if they are planned they aren't on the due date either IME. I'm due on the 25th of Novemeber and am sitting here thinking I could still be pregnant on 11th December

My dd was born 16 days after her due date. (CS after failed induction).

Of course, you will now be 37wks+ so you could go any time without it being anything unusual.

broodymom · 07/11/2008 20:55

My dd1 was 4 days late

My dd2 was born on her due date

I hope this one comes on time also

Jenski · 07/11/2008 20:55

My 2nd dd was born on her due date

lulumama · 07/11/2008 20:56

i gave birth on my due date, and DH was born on his

4 - 5% of babies arrive on their due date, the other 96 % will not ! most first babies arive around 41 weeks

you have to remember it is estimated due date , not set in stone

anywhere between 37 and 42 weeks is normal full term pregnancy

No1GruffaloHunter · 07/11/2008 20:58

Neither of my DDs was born on her due date.

Plus major debates with the hospital / MWs about what my due date was anyway. Scan date or conception date (both are IVF babies so certain of when we concieved).

Hope your baby arrives soon and is healthy.

firsttimemama · 07/11/2008 21:35

I gave a sharp intake of breath when I saw Broodymom and Jenski's posts - I really am shocked that any babies arrive on the EDD. I know it is expected due date , but I'm not sure why they bother when they are wrong 96% of the time! Well done lulumama I just noticed you had an on time one too. BTW this is my second first arrived at 40 + 4 after a sweep - I suspect it would have been 40+8ish without the little help. Can you tell I'm getting quite desperate to have this new bub?

DD was 5 days late
cant believe that Broodymom, lulamama and jenski had babies on EDD!!

JennysMummy · 07/11/2008 22:12

It's really only an estimate, 2 weeks either side of it is the norm. I'm due on the 23rd november, so I can sympathise.. I can't wait to meet my daughter!

my first baby (ds1) was born on his EDD
second two days early, thought i was getting a pattern
DD three weeks early (she obviously heard incorrectly)

BigTeuchLittleTeuch · 07/11/2008 22:16

bloody edd has caused me nothingbut hassle this time

DS born at 36+ weeks, 2 days after he turned head down in my lovely 'heart-shaped' uterus...this one is head-down already, so will I be sooner?! Or later since I am all 'baggy and stretched' as lovely mw puts it?!

I have to leave home (to be nearer hospital) at 36wks because of history, yet I could still go overdue

Raaaaaahhhhhhh!

Massive con!

LynetteScavo · 07/11/2008 22:17

I was due on 21st December - and didn't give birth untill the 2nd Jan.

I have had 3 10 month pregnancies, so I dont' know why every one thinks human gestation is 9 months!

Flum · 07/11/2008 22:18

11 days late
8 days late
7 days late

for my 3.

firsttimemama · 08/11/2008 04:15

I can well believe that some babies take 10 or 11 months to 'cook'. This 40 week thing just seems to be so arbitrary I don't know how we've all got so sucked in by it.

I am 41 weeks today and I think EDD's are rubbish!!!

TheSweetLittleBunny · 08/11/2008 06:42

5 years ago, I gave birth exactly on DS's due date.

Finished ironing and tidying up in readiness for new baby, by 2pm. Everything done - went into labour. Called DH then thought I'd bake an apple crumble in case I got peckish in the morning. Hospital at 5.30pm. Sent home at 6.30pm, so had a bath and (small) glass of wine - waters broke during Eastenders. Back to hospital by 8.30. DS born 8.40 pm.

I guess I'm just organised.

Gumbo · 08/11/2008 06:54

Ooh - I see you're due on the 25 of November! That was my EDD 3 years ago - I went into labour at 01:00 on the 24th, and had DS bang on schedule at 04:00 the next day - so perhaps that date will be lucky for you too!

tinkisexcitedabouthavingababy · 08/11/2008 11:52

dd1 was 4 days late
i am 30 weeks with number 2
good luck

chloemegjess · 08/11/2008 12:05

I was due 23rd dec last year, went into labour 27th dec and had DD on 29th.

I think they should give you a time period, rather than a date. Ie to say you will give birth between x and x and no specific date.

I am due 22d April this time but know it could be May before I get my baby

Ivvvvyygootscaaared444 · 08/11/2008 12:07

well my dd was due on the 26th of november and I was convinced she would be late like her older ds - but she arrived on the 21st november.....

So you never know

solidgoldbrass · 08/11/2008 12:21

Only 5% of babies are actually born on the actual day. There are all sorts of factors to consider such as length of your cycle and actual date of conception (if you were bonking every night for a fortnight, it would be quite hard to be sure what day egg and sperm actually met given sperm swimming times, eggs hanging around times etc).

My DS was a week 'late' but I wasn;t that surprised, because I knew the day he'd been concieved - well, within closer time limits than a fortnight anyway. I was induced because of hypertension, not placenta failure, might as well have gone another few days if not for the BP.

firsttimemama · 08/11/2008 15:26

Thanks all for your good wishes - I shouldn't be moaning as I'm not even overdue yet! I think a time frame would be better though. Thanks Gumbo my new DC may well share a birthday with your LO. if you know the conception date how many days do you add from there. I thought they took it back to your last period anyway. I was going on EDD from scan. Incidently my first was conceived between 25th and 28th of month and I had a due date of the 17th and this one was about the 22nd of the month and I've been given an EDD of the 25th so that doesn't follow either.

Here in France, 'full term' is considered 41 weeks, for some reason.

TheOtherMaryPoppinsFleckles · 08/11/2008 15:42

My DD was 10 days over the EDD

My DS was allegedly 16 days over, so I was induced but given that as a second baby he was smaller than my first, also still absolutely plastered in thick vernix, I doubt he was even ready tbh.

magnummum · 08/11/2008 16:48

Dd 16 days early.
