Are Due Dates the biggest con going?

Do you know anyone who actually gave birth on their due date? - I don't. I was going to add excluding c-section but if they are planned they aren't on the due date either IME. I'm due on the 25th of Novemeber and am sitting here thinking I could still be pregnant on 11th December

Oh my god Cote the thought of going to 41 weeks before your considered term is a bit of a nightmare. I agree Other MP about your ds not being ready - that is why I can't see how they can attempt to fob us off with presise EDDs and then start wanting to intervene based on those.

My Due date was moved because on the scans DS looked small and my cycle was long. Didn't make any difference as I had pre eclampsia and he was induced early.
I knew exactly when DD was conceived and she turned up 3 weeks early

I know a few women who have given birth on or around their due date - but the vast majority have been at least a week out, maybe two. I was (apparently) 42 + 5 when my son was born.

DD - 42 weeks
DS1 - 38 weeks
DS2 - on due date (Saturday just gone!) to my utter amazement as there were no signs and I was resigned to hanging around for a while yet!

claireyBANG · 10/11/2008 16:54

DD came the day before hers and DS on his due date.

You know what is the con ; I am 100% sure of my dates. We had sex on ovulation day and not before in that month ( i.e. not between period ending and ovulation).

At my scan they said my dates are wrong and this baby is due a week earlier than my dates allow.
This is because they assume all babies at the 12 week same are the same length i.e. 50th centile. i told them they were wrong and the same thing had happened with my first born. ' Oh no dear YOU are wrong'.

Ahhhh! this is what they base the due date on! they seem to know better when I had sex than I do.

Do you think part of it is down to how many dates they give you.
My ds1 was born 5 days late. My ds2 was born 3 days early. This was using the date given me at the first scan. (No more were forthcoming.)
My SIL though was given 5 different dates in all and her ds was born on his (last) due date. That date was almost 2 weeks different to the first one though.

I was given a due date at my scan with my second child as I didn't have regular cycles and wasn't sure. He was born on the due date they gave me.
In order my children were born at
39+4
40+0
39+3
40+1
39+3

wobbypig - am just like you but the other way around! I conceived v early in my cycle this time, but you try telling the midwife/ gp/ sonographer that perhaps not everyone conceives on day 14! So I now have 'my' EDD, and 'their' EDD - and I bet new babe arrives on neither!

I had DS two years ago on due date. I had a rapid 2 hour labour and he was born at 11.30pm. He obviously knew he had a deadline to meet!
