Is the 'big out front bump for a boy, low down wide bump for a girl' thing true?

We'd quite like a girl this time round - last two times were both boys and the bump was very poky out in front, iyswim.

It seems lower down and less poky out this time round - is that a sign of a girl, or just stomach muscles that have given up the fight completely?

I think the later, I was all at front with all my dds

expatinscotland · 01/11/2008 20:27

it worked for me!

my two girls were both low down and wide and i was pregnant all over.

this one is a boy.

he's ALL in front and doing my back in.

he's also late.

the girls weren't.

sweetkitty · 01/11/2008 20:28

Not true for me from my bump shape and size I should be a Mum of 3 boys but have 3 girls.

myermay · 01/11/2008 20:29

i think it depends on you tbh. I have two boys and you wouldn't even known i was pregant from behind at 37 wks pg. All my friends who've had girls got quite fat around their backs and carried quite wide. Are you goign to find out at your next scan then?

MarkStretch · 01/11/2008 20:32

I think it applies to me.

With dd I just looked fat.

Now pg with ds and I look like I've eaten a football. Totally different.

RustyBear · 01/11/2008 20:33

I was the same shape with both DS and DD.

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 01/11/2008 20:36

We've had the scan already, but DP doesn't want to know. The thing is, I think it might be another boy as the cardiologist doing the first scan said to her colleague 'oh look!' and then said to us 'do you want to know what sex it is?'

which surely has have been her spotting a tiny willy?

but I would quite like a girl....

I'm coming to get you, MarkStretch!

CatIsSleepy · 01/11/2008 20:36

dunno really
with dd i had a very poky out (so poky out you could practically see it coming around the corner before you saw me) but by the end quite low-down bump,
does that help?
think am going to be similar this time, don't know whta I'm having though...

MarkStretch · 01/11/2008 20:38

Hi bucket!

Romy7 · 01/11/2008 20:39

nah. everyone i knew told me i was def carrying a boy with dd1. i gave up listening after that

CatIsSleepy · 01/11/2008 20:41

i think everyone thought i was having a boy too
in fact they had me convinced as well!
was quite surprised when dd popped out...

bucketcunt · 01/11/2008 20:43

Congrats on your 26 weeks!

purpleflower · 01/11/2008 20:44

I was all out in front this time withh DD and slightly rounder but still mainly in front with DS.

ZamMummy · 01/11/2008 20:45

Just to add an international dimension to this, my South African friends all tell me that it's the complete opposite: "low down wide for a BOY, big out front for a GIRL" !!??
I've got 2 DS's (both surprises) and was all out front both times, my friends in the UK were convinced they were boys and the South Africans that they were girls....

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 01/11/2008 20:53

Maybve South African babies are a different shape?

Heartmum2Jamie · 01/11/2008 20:54

I can't really comment as I have carried all my pregnancies the same and have 2 boys and am overdue with my 3rd boy. They have all been completely out front with littlw weight gain elsewhere. However, when I asked my midwife her thoughts, she said I would probably carry a girl just the same as well as that is obviously how I carry my babies, it's down to genetics, not the gender.

bikerunski · 01/11/2008 21:49

It was for me.

BigBadMouse · 01/11/2008 22:02

all mine were the same - people couldn't tell I was pregnant if I had my back turned to them so I guess all out front but I have 2DDs and 1DS.

lecohen · 01/11/2008 23:04

Hi there,

My bump now is pointy and high and with dd was low and wide...I have been told that the baby "looks" like a girl which I find weird as have strong "boy" vibes. I guess I'll know soon (due in 5 weeks).

Good luck x

TattyCatty · 01/11/2008 23:23

All up front and couldn't tell I was pregnant from behind for a long time (and I wasn't skinny to start with)............DD now 2.8 years. Didn't work for me!

UmSami · 02/11/2008 01:11

DS carried very low, and VERY WIDE...I was huge and full of water which made me look worse.
40+4 with (predicted) DD this time...she's mostly in front and alot higher! Less water too YAY.
Sorry!

Niecie · 02/11/2008 01:19

I was all out front with both of mine and they were boys.

TheInvisibleGuyWentBANG · 02/11/2008 01:25

2 boys..both times turned into the michelin man.

SparklyGothKat · 02/11/2008 01:45

pics on my profile pregnant with a boy, it was all out front, but then I was all out front with all 4 of my kids
