We've now filled up the last thread - and the two before that! Seems that there are a lot of us old girls out there getting ourselves into trouble

So - if you've just found yourself to be with child or have a LO and you've hit (or about to hit - we'll let you sneak in just under the radar!)the big 4 0, then come say Hi!

There is always a spare comfy chair - plenty of cake and many old ladies to listen to your moans! Think of the lovely ladies knitting shreddies - only we're not sporting a blue rinse, but wearing cashmere and kitten heels

Hello regular ladies. I avoided putting FAT, F*cked or Knackered in the title - tempting as it was

Obviously I should have said my hair was just above my shoulders. It being just above my shoulder makes me think of the kind of asymmetric cut sported by Phil Whatsisface from the Human League

jeanjeannie · 10/11/2008 15:24

Oh lilibet now I just had to go and look at the DM! LOL@Edith Bowman being likened to Camilla Parker-Bowles!!! And Lorranine Kelly's norks...woah! I've got a picture of her at a party with a monkey down her clevage - which I put there. I'd put it on my profile to show you all if I didn't think she'd sue! Also got a fab pic of Chesney Hawkes kissing the same said Monkey - I may dig that one out - I don't think he's mind

Two words to say to Cindy Crawford.....Bog Off

floria is this the mother with the mole?! Gosh - what are you doing to her living room? Is Grand Designs coming round?! I say give her a quick pasting of anaglypta and a nice coat of magnolia - that should do it

ladymac · 10/11/2008 15:34

I'm really enjoying all the 'how we met our other half' stories. lilibet I think you'll find there are quite a few of us on here who have bagged ourselves a younger man. Mine is 12 years younger than me but much greyer which I think evens things out

Must go check out the DM website now.

hedgepig · 10/11/2008 16:31

ladymac well done Elizabeth keeping the hearing aids in as long as she did. it sounds longer than my dad will keep his in and he (obviously) is a grown up. I wonder if they feel a bit like new glasses slight;y sore for a couple of days and then you don't notice them at all.
I just checked out the DM I think Cindy looks a bit like ...... humm how can I put this sensitively................like she is desperate for a number two in the bottom picture with the pouty look .
I have just been told of for not putting a hat on Oliver by my 10 yr old neighbour (what a crap mommy I am). I went to get Ben off the school bus and took the car cos it was horrid so I just plonked Ol in the car with no hat .
Floria I feel for you with the decorating, we finished the bedroom but now have the hall and stairs to do including removing the tongue and groove from the ceiling and thetextured wallpaper lovely!(I remember your mom had similar decor)

hedgepig · 10/11/2008 16:37

I forgot my how I met my DH sory. We met (rether dully) at Uni about 20 years ago before the tin-ter-net was such a part of our lives. We were doing research in the same dept and used to go conservation volunteering at the weekend but we were just mates. DH did try to take things further at the time but I refused cos I had a boyfriend. Anyway we lost touch over the years and when I came to Cambridge I traced him down eventually and the rest is history ahhhh we have been a couple for 10yrs and married for 1.5.

Tee2072 · 10/11/2008 16:44

ladymac great news about the hearing aids and that she seems willing to wear them! YAYAY for her!

As for me, saw the diabetic educator today and was given insulin. Seems easy enough. Doesn't hurt to inject it, so that's good! And my levels have already come down, so that is also very good!

Second scan tomorrow. Hopefully it will be better than the first, I'll let you know!

ermintrude13 · 10/11/2008 16:51

Ooh Tee I'll be thinking about you tomorrow and hope that heartbeat is nicely visible this time. Having my booking appt in the morning so hoping the MW will give me an idea of when to expect my first scan. Hope because of my advanced years they'll put me at the top of the list! There must be some advantages to being considered such a freak..

All these women with younger OHs My toyboy DH is a full 6 months younger than I am.

mrsboogie · 10/11/2008 17:33

I do believe that I currently hold the record for younger OHs as mine is 13 years younger than me. We met very similarly to lilibet and her DP - I was the new arrival at work and we became drinking buddies which turned into flirting, then I jumped on him, then it became shag buddies, then it got serious.

mrsboogie · 10/11/2008 17:47

hope all goes well tomorrow tee - its a lovely moment seeing the hb and incredible to look at it and think that all going well, one day that little flickering blob will become your lovely bouncing baby .

johnworf · 10/11/2008 17:56

ladymac so pleased that Betsy has her hearing aids and so far so good Fingers crossed it'll continue.

mrsb and who says that romance is dead!

Floria no offence taken I know how it is to worry about jabs - in fact, worry about everything!

Tee stabbing yourself is ok at first...it's when you start running out of leg/bottom/tum. ouch

hedgepig were you stalking him? evil grin emoticon

Just humming that song...how does it go ...'I don't like Monday's (tell me why)'. Monday's are always busy as I have the weekend backlog to work through and I've just about caught up.

Breaking news of the day is that K is now on 0.01 oxygen. Whooo HOooooooo! Next stop is zero. We're trying her off altogether (that is me and MW) on Wednesday and from then on it'll be weaning off altogether as long as her saturations are good. OMG it's going to be so weird not getting vests round her nasal prongs, not tripping up over dangling wires, not carrying a bloody oxygen cylinder over one shoulder with a baby on the other!! Yippeeee

ladymac · 10/11/2008 18:41

Oh gosh, forgot to tell you the even bigger news. My lovely ds is on University Challenge tonight. He's the tall handsome blonde (no bias here!) captain of the Selwyn team. They did really well in the first round. Unfortunately tonight they come up against a team from the LSE He says no-one is to laugh when he says Sputnik, he knew right away it was the wrong answer!

Have to run now, DH is taking me to Tesco for a treat, leaving the littles with dd1. It's almost like a date!

johnworf · 10/11/2008 19:34

omfg ladymac I'll look for him. I'm taping it for DH.....wow. Impressed!

Treats in Teso's huh

jeanjeannie · 10/11/2008 20:06

Oh I've just logged in to say ladymac is that your son?.....and is IS!!!! Oh he speaks very nicely.

Sputnik is always a good answer! It's the name of my friend's cat

Go on Cambridge!!

jeanjeannie · 10/11/2008 20:14

BTW ladymac - I forgot to say great news about Elizabeth's hearing aid. Gosh, you've really got her sorted out so quickly - that's such good news.

I think you should quickly learn some new technology.....I mean, we have to watch blinkin TV to see your offspring

OP posts:
johnworf · 10/11/2008 20:23

Just caught a bit of it ladymac but am still taping it...awww....he's a little cute baby isn't he? Ok, not quite a baby to it's all relative so he's a baby to me

I'd be extremely proud if K got on University Challenge....I'd be so after Jeremy Paxman!

jeanjeannie · 10/11/2008 20:33

Ladymac DP and myself thought that Captain Leland (sp?) did very well. They weren't disgraced and they didn't lose to Oxford
And, as the Paxman says (once jw has stopped tugging at his trouser leg and looking up adoringly....) "it's only a game"...

Gawd....I'd be soooo proud I'd be melting into my sofa and eating CAKE! x

OP posts:
johnworf · 10/11/2008 20:42

I wouldn't be tugging on his trousers leg

jeanjeannie · 10/11/2008 21:05

Meh

OP posts:
ladymac · 10/11/2008 22:10

He carried that team, didn't he?

johnworf · 11/11/2008 08:28

ladymac no bias there then? Not actually seen the whole programme yet as I Virgin + it. Probably watch it with DH over lunch and I'll give you my verdict

Weather is dire here....utterly awful.

Turning to more serious matters of DM...there's a story there of a mother who is on benefits and living in a £1m house. Can someone tell me how that works?

And as for Madonna and her demands from across the pond, she's a loon and can't see what Mr Ritchie saw in her in the first place.

jeanjeannie · 11/11/2008 08:49

Morning all. It's glorious here...sorry JW doubt if it'll last mind you.

ladymac he did indeed carry the team. He also spoke sooooo nicely. Me thinks there is better education in Tufnell Park then wot where I lives!!! You've clearly done a marvellous job....as they'd say on CBeebies...."give yourself a shiny!"

Oh, the DM - I've yet to peruse that yet, but the benefit mum living in a squillion quid house sounds like a classic headline!!

I see there are plans afoot to end council housing for life....and apparently it's a contenctious issue...huh? why? There are folk with 3 cars, three wages and hols in Australia living in council houses down our road....MMMmm dead needy.....and £60 week rent between them...???!! How is that sustainable by the tax payer. Apparently it's 'unfair to means test people in council accomadation'... What about getting a mortgage - you're means tested up to the hilt - but that's ok is it?! Morning DM rant over

Off to a singing group later. Ah - and on a DM rant again (soz)- it's run by Surestart - which is supposed to be for people who need a helping hand - ala Jamie Oliver types - but they all refuse to go - so we do instead. Ah - I could go on !!

Feeling pleased. Iris actually ate (nay devoured) my fish pie last night and is eating fruit porridge....yay!! Thought biscuits were going to take over her life!

lilibet · 11/11/2008 08:52

Good Morning everyone.

Ladymac a son on University Challenge and Elizabeth getting ehr hearing aids, what a day for celebration in the Mac household. Well done to you and your offspring

JW yay for K and the oxygen, it must be like a little light at the end of the tunnel.

I rang the docotors last night to change my Thursday morning appt to a later one and it was one of those conversations that you can't quite beleive you are having. The receptionist was totally obtuse. (BTW, my mum was a drs receptionist for many years.) I asked if I could go later in the day, I was told that Thursday's appointments hadn't been released yet. I have an appointment for Thursday. Yes, I may have but if I want an appointment for Thursday evening I have to ring at two on Thursday and if one is availalbe I can have it. But my appointment is for the morning, if when I made the appointment I had asked for an evening one, could I have had one then? No, because appointments for Thursday haven't been released yet. But I have an appointment for Thursday and I need to change it. To when? Thursday evening!!!!!!

and so on and so forth!!!

Lemon cake in teh kitchen at work today - woo hoo - my very favourite.

jeanjeannie · 11/11/2008 09:04

Ah yes, I forgot to say jw that's FAB news about the oxygen - now onto just a mere whiff!

lilibet Doctor's appointments are indeed a weird and not-so-wonderful thing. I think the technology is developed by NASA and is barely understandable to anyone other than those with degrees in astro-physics

OP posts:
hedgepig · 11/11/2008 09:27

that makes fantastic sense Lilibet my Drs are very similar they have different types of appointment that you can book at different times and they have a nice fow diagram on the counter to explain ot all!!
My moms Drs is even worse if you have an appointment but have 2 ailments the doctor will refuse to discuss the second and you have to make a second appointment several days later. Back luck if you 1st ailment is a wart and the second signs of a heart attack.
K way to go with the oxygen little Katherine what fabby little lungs you have.
Tee fingers crossed for the scan hope it goes well.
Ladymac I DVDed Uni Challenge but haven't watched it yet, may get a chance today although Ben is ill ff school woth a horrid cough so we are watching other things at the moment. JW what is the attraction of Mr Paxman he is such a grump boots??

johnworf · 11/11/2008 09:48

hedgepig I'm sending you some virtual vowels as I think a couple of yours have dropped off...I had to read one of your sentences a couple of times to get the jist of what it said

Don't get me started on Dr's receptionists (or dental for that matter). A little power goes a long way apparently. I've taken the reverse psychology route with mine in that I've ingratiated myself with all of them. I've seen other people rant at them in the surgery and get nowhere fasxt, but I seem to get little favours as I know their names and have a little chuckle with them. It's a top tip for you ladies (which I'm sharing as I'm feeling nice today)

Totally with you JJ on the council house V mortgage front. Tbh getting sick of lazy arse sroungers attitude especially when see DSS's mother claiming everything going and never worked a day in her life (and never will).

hedgepig it's because he's bossy that I like him And of course I know which kind of underpants he prefers too!

So love lemon cake but I've eaten far too many slices of cake and had too many chocolate hob nobs of late and now my jeans are getting full again Must stop it.

Tee will be thinking of you dear and hoping that your scan is good news. Let us know how you get on

Funny you mention Sure Start JJ as I was looking into the book scheme. Never had it when my older 3 were little ones but I'm going to take full advantage of the books for K. Do you have to be on benefits to claim it or is it for everyone? And also, did you use it for Iris???
