We've now filled up the last thread - and the two before that! Seems that there are a lot of us old girls out there getting ourselves into trouble

So - if you've just found yourself to be with child or have a LO and you've hit (or about to hit - we'll let you sneak in just under the radar!)the big 4 0, then come say Hi!

There is always a spare comfy chair - plenty of cake and many old ladies to listen to your moans! Think of the lovely ladies knitting shreddies - only we're not sporting a blue rinse, but wearing cashmere and kitten heels

Hello regular ladies. I avoided putting FAT, F*cked or Knackered in the title - tempting as it was

fantastic boots lady mac - I have huge calves size 9 feet and a narrow fitting foot so I have never found a pair of long boots to fit, doesn't stop me looking though
snuggly blanket look great too MrsB
i have ordered some new slippers this morning, not as exciting as your purchases but my feet will be warm, my house is really drafty. here

hedgepig · 04/11/2008 13:53

ermintrude i love you!! (well your sisters) I must go and measure my calf's and they go to a size 10 woppee lock up the credit card

johnworf · 04/11/2008 14:31

I'm back (twizzles around and shows off new haircut) I've had red streaks today and I must say, although a tad adventurous for moi, I likes alot.

Just off to see what DM is up to today. Will come back with verdicts for all!

ermintrude13 · 04/11/2008 14:35

mrsboogie, those are certainly kinky boots, you minx! hedgepig, have you found some you like? Bit more exciting than slippers - though I love slippers and can't understand why DH and DC refuse to wear them!

hedgepig · 04/11/2008 14:41

mrsb i have vertigo just looking at the heals on those!. there are a couple of potentials ermintrude I now have to mull over do I really need them etc
nice hair JW I get red and blond streaks in mine so I approve of the red.

lilibet · 04/11/2008 14:43

Very nice!! You're looking good

MrsB The blanket is beautiful - I have bookmarked the site! Are the Ambys as good as their press? I have been eyeing them up.

I must stop planning what I'm going to do/buy/say and get a bit of realism. I'm only 5 weeks ish! Over planning is one of my faults.

hedgepig · 04/11/2008 14:50

i'm thinking these here

mrsboogie · 04/11/2008 14:50

Looking tres glam jw

I love those boots - they aren't that high are they? You should have seen the shoes I wore to the wedding the other day - had to take them off before carrying the LO anywhere as I was afraid I would fall over in them.

lilibet the Amby is fab. V comfy and he does sleep better and longer in that than anywhere else. He can also be left awake in it to drop off himself, which is good. I also love that I can have it hanging by my side of the bed and I can just reach out and rock him if he cries. Also it moves and sways gently with any little movement he makes which lets me know that he is ehhm ok We love it.

johnworf · 04/11/2008 15:12

omfg. Posh looks a total twonk in the get up.

And Kate Winslet? I look like that every morning (well I would if I'd been air brushed like she had)...but the hair is about right.

Rachael Hunter AND Katie Andre both wanting more sprogs....I feel we could have new people in here soon (ok Jordan is a tad young but Rach aint).

Blimey hedgepig thought my plates were big at size 7 but size 9???? Same here with calves..mine are tres muscular and can never get boots around them (unless s-t-r-e-t-c-h-y) I'm liking those comfy slippers I would wear them all of the time.

K has a nounou but isn't using it yet. Instead, she likes scratching her (long) nails down the side of the cot bumper/carrycot in the style of Freddie Kruger.

FloriaTosca · 04/11/2008 15:34

lillibet I second MrsBs championing of the Amby..It takes up very little room, is light and manouverable, Alex only had colic during the day (when he was sleeping flat in his pram)and by 5 months was only waking once a night, he would bounce himself back to sleep the rest of the time...sadly at 9 months he decided sleeping on his tummy was the future and looked like he was going to smother himself so we moved him to the cotbed ... I wish we could go back to the Amby, I might get more sleep!

Ooh...I do like those boots

mrsboogie · 04/11/2008 15:47

I can't afford those boots - have spent a fortune on nebulous crap this past two months (maternity leave and internet shopping - a lethal combination) and even if I could I can't decide whether black or brown is better

eeek I have just realised that I am almost halfway through my maternity leave

hedgepig · 04/11/2008 16:08

MrsB think how much money you are saving not buying lunch ....... says she clutching at straws. Have you got childcare sorted out? I'm hoping to take the whole year so I must stop shopping too as we will be broke after Christmas.

mrsboogie · 04/11/2008 17:13

afraid the lunch money one is already worn out hedgepig

well we have had a pootastic afternoon here multicoloured ones, yellow ones and green ones, small ones, huge ones and the last one was an explosive one - I was afraid to look! Thought he had diarrhea (sp) but it seems not. eeeek.

johnworf · 04/11/2008 18:06

Ah yes mrsb we haven't had a poo conversation in ages So glad it's black on the agenda where it belongs.

When are you back at work mrsb/hedgepig? I imagine it'll be really hard going back.....or do you get extended unpaid leave? What are you doing about childcare arrangements?
(sorry just noticed that hedgepig is taking a year off.....

One of the pro's of being self employed is that I don't have to arrange any of this as I am 'it'. All of my other 3 went to nursery though. My first DD went at 6 weeks as that was when I went back to work! No, can't quite believe it myself now I think about it but hey, I was young, married and a mother and we needed the money.

Like you guys, I'm trying not to buy any more things before xmas but it's hard when everyone is having sales and you see nice things and think 'ah well, it's a bargain'! I'm going to talk to DH about getting a joint 'something for both of us' present rather than the usual of a pile of things you don't really want. If this doesn't come off then I would still like a DS lite or a really good electric toothbrush.

It's bridge night round here tonight so DH has come back from shops armed to the teeth with delish biscuits and some walnut cake for their half time interlude. OMG I so know that I'm going to eat lots of them later. Gack. Bang goes my diet. Again.

mrsboogie · 04/11/2008 18:47

well we have a nursery on site at work and if they haven't succeeded in closing it and we can get a place by mid Feb (by no means guaranteed) he will be going there. It is subsidised a little but still v expensive.

Grandma wants to take him one day a week (she works 4 days) which is great (I think). I'm not entirely convinced of the wisdom of letting a family member do it - I can envisage problems (communication/interference etc) but I don't have much choice.

I am not looking forward to it all all but like you say jw you have to do what you have to do. I didn't go out today because I just wanted to stay in and stare at him all day. No way could we afford for one of us not to work though and I do like working but I would like more time off. I can have an extra 13 weeks on stat maternity pay and another 13 after than on zero but we couldn't pay the mortgage like that.

jeanjeannie · 04/11/2008 20:34

Boots - OOOooo I LURVE footwear...and that website for people with calves like mine...heaven! Thanks mrsB In fact I feel like group hugging the lot of you - I thought it was just me who could only zip up boots half way!

Oh I love the blanket mrsB sooooo gorgeous.

Gosh - maternity leave....eek. Like JW being of the self-employed type it's not an issue. Am thinking about a nursery a couple of mornings a week for Iris - but not out of necessity. Don't envy anyone having to go back.

JW looking very nice, tasty - love a red streak! Hope bridge night isn't too calorific!!

ladymac well, after that admission re your former life I was going to ask you for some food tips. Then again - if anyone asks me about fashion I just look at them blankly. So I just went and got the new Lord Jamie of St Oliver book from Costco instead!

POO conversations....well, I could describe Iris's explosion that was soooo huge we literally had to hose her down in the bath!

OP posts:
lilibet · 04/11/2008 20:54

Oh lovely - poo!! I had forgotten the delights of the black sticky ones, the green runny ones and those really special ones that go all out of the top of the nappy and up their back!!

We have just had a session of sorting out what we have bought so far for Christmas/Birthdays (ds2 on 28th Nov, dd on 14th Dec and dh on 23rd Dec - Whooppee ), not doing badly but still have quite a few 'big' things to get.

Is anyone watching Little Dorritt?

johnworf · 04/11/2008 21:10

lilibet I'm watching Little Dorritt. I'm a sucker for any costume drama. I've Virgin + them all and have just watched the first episode. Fab!

JJ I bought the Jamie O book for one of my sons for Xmas as a filler (no pun). Looked through it before I wrapped it and the pics are nice and the recipes easy to follow. Also has basic sauces/soups etc which are always good to learn...DS#1 has been following Ramsay receipes but I think a lot of his food is a bit arty farty and not everyday fare although I wouldn't mind eating it everyday if someone cooked it for me!

I'm really out of touch with nursery fees these days (mine went to a really good state one years ago and it was very cheap). I remember working with a guy a couple of years ago and he said it was like half his monthly salary for one child Is this true or was it an exaggeration? How on earth do people manage???

JJ too late re the biscuits/cake. I've nipped in and helped myself while they are still at it. Picked all the nicest ones of course and left them the rich tea rubbish heheh. Fromage frais as del boy would say

johnworf · 04/11/2008 21:12

Just watching this Prince charlies mistress programme on C4. Aren't the aristrocracy barking??? All that interbreeding probably

johnworf · 04/11/2008 21:17

Doing a bit of work here while I'm getting LO to sleep and just seen this Ebay message. Not saying that society has dumbed down to the lowest common denominator but if anyone can translate what the bloody hell this means, I would be most grateful:

"hi ive emaild u i dont no if u got my mail bt i got the perfume off u i was wonder if its possiable that i can pay u by postal order plz if thats ok den i.ll post the postal order to u 2mro plz get bk to me thank u"

If you can understand that message, please let me know as I have no idea what it is asking.

Worrying

lilibet · 04/11/2008 21:26

I hate text speak, can't translate some of the texts I get!

FloriaTosca · 04/11/2008 21:39

JW lol! Does the perpretator of this murder of our mother tongue happen to origiate from my direction? It reads like the dreadful texts that I get daily from my illiterate A star awarded 15/16yr old pupils...I believe it should read.
"Dear Sir or Madam. I recently sent you an e-mail but am unsure that you received it. I recently purchased some perfume from you and wondered if it would be possible to send remuneration by postal order. If this is acceptable to you I will send the said postal order to you by Royal Mail tomorrow. I would be grateful if you would indicate to me if this method of payment is acceptable. With thanks in anticipation.Yours faithfully...."

ladymac · 04/11/2008 21:47

johnworf you wouldn't believe what the nurseries round my way cost. I'm amazed that people earn enough to pay their mortgages after they've paid the extortionate fees. Somebody was telling me about a really good playgroup/nursery nearby, I nearly fell through the floor when she told me a 9am - 12 noon session cost £40
