We've now filled up the last thread - and the two before that! Seems that there are a lot of us old girls out there getting ourselves into trouble

So - if you've just found yourself to be with child or have a LO and you've hit (or about to hit - we'll let you sneak in just under the radar!)the big 4 0, then come say Hi!

There is always a spare comfy chair - plenty of cake and many old ladies to listen to your moans! Think of the lovely ladies knitting shreddies - only we're not sporting a blue rinse, but wearing cashmere and kitten heels

Hello regular ladies. I avoided putting FAT, F*cked or Knackered in the title - tempting as it was

JW Yeah, I am pretty sure I will see endo, and diabetic Mid-wife and nutritionist and who knows who else?!?!?

The letter says 2 hours, my Diabetic nurse, who I adore and will miss over the next 7.5ish months, said it will be more like 2.5 or 3! YIKES!

Very hard to concentrate here at work today. Luckily my big deadline for the month is past and I can more or less relax today! Just don't tell my boss!

johnworf · 04/11/2008 09:32

lilibet Katherine was due on 14th September but was actually born on 28th May. She was 24 weeks and 3 days gestation so we were pretty much on the line.

It's been a bit of a long haul as the ladies on here will testify. But had lots of support, once again from the ladies and we've come this far.

johnworf · 04/11/2008 09:35

lilibet here is a nice article re cost of cloth nappies V disposables

jeanjeannie · 04/11/2008 09:39

Morning all...feel like I've been stamped on but at least I can move my back

floria same problem here...over zealous purchasing of the choccy for trick or treaters led to me having to finish them all off Waistbands now a tad tight!!

tee Have fun at the booking. I remember both of mine were really non-events. Keep us posted.

hedgepig and JW I shall join you in the trashed, dry, flaky and cracked knuckles league. I've resorted to using my Vasaline on them!

Lilibet I'm not sure there is much in the re-usable cost-wise if you do a hot wash and tumble dry. However we only have a bin collection every two weeks (one week green and other week trash) so I can leave you to guess what 2 weeks of sh*tty nappies smells like That's one reason they're so popular in these parts me thinks! Also for Iris as she's almost two (on Sat ) then it's nice for them to know they've actually wet themselves - help with the old potty training!

Off to Costco this afternoon to get my contact lenses........ha - saving all the ££s at the moment! I shall walk past the pastries.....honest

mornin all

Ah, Jodie Marsh - I must confess that when I had less to occupy me I had a certain fascination for his creature. I know wayyyy more about her than is healthy. She is the epitome of the newish breed of moron who will do absolutely anything to get "famous" without feeling the need to have any particular talent for anything except applying fake tan and being photographed while out on the town wearing only underwear.

I am particularity fascinated by the fact that it seems to be only females doing this and why anyone would actually want to be well known just for the sake of it. Miss Marsh has pulled some particular dreadful self demeaning stunts in order to get press attention - the latest being to turn "lesbian" and advertise on the radio for a bloke to inseminate her so that she can have a baby with her "girlfriend of about 2 weeks.

lilibet I am finding disposables surprisingly cheap - I think I am spending about £3 a week. They are better designed these days also - hold a lot of ehm water and don't leak too badly apart from the odd occurrence of a big wee patch up the back while everywhere else is dry. I'm not sure how that one happens

I am ridiculously excited about watching the election coverage tonight - planning to stay up and watch it - if I wasn't an atheist I would be praying for Obama to win

No cake today for me - so I am off to peruse the DM website (well a girl has to have some vices eh? )

johnworf · 04/11/2008 10:22

We've been watching the 24 hour Beeb news covering the election as well, mrsb.

Not been to Costco for ages. In fact it seems almost like a treat being able to go and peruse....and mmmmm cake/pastries/lemon drizzle cake. OOOH

Off for haircut/new colour at lunch

hedgepig · 04/11/2008 10:52

morning all, yawn not one of our best nights I could not get Ollie to settle after the 3am feed he seemed to think it was play time!

good luck with the booking Tee it will just be lots of blather and paper work, but nice to be "official".

very bizzare pics of Kate Winslet on the DM web sit this morning naked but wrapped in fur, surely she would keep warmer with a nice vest

Tee2072 · 04/11/2008 11:19

Re: US election...I think I have mentioned that I am US Citizen, expat living over here. I don't pray, but I am praying for obama.

Would love to stay up all night and watch it, but have to go to work tomorrow! So I guess I'll check the second I'm awake tomorrow!

JW thanks for that link. I am still debating which to use, although leaning towards disposables!

hedgepig · 04/11/2008 12:03

do you really think he can make a difference Tee? I hoping he wins too but just fear he will get sucked into the quagmire of Iraq, the economy etc and end up like any other president!

Tee2072 · 04/11/2008 12:09

I honestly don't know, hedgepig. What I do know is that 4 more years of the same ole sh*t is going to kill my country.

I think the man has vision. I do not know if he'll be able to fulfil that vision. I also think he could be great. And I hope he manages to be great.

And I hope he isn't assassinated in the first year of office.

mrsboogie · 04/11/2008 12:18

when you watch the news and see some of the towns they visit - the US really does seem to be in a decline, you can see why everyone wants "change".

I really would be very pleasantly surprised if he doesn't get assassinated in the first year too, his security will be a monumental nightmare.

I think for the world in general the worst possible scenario would be McCain gets in and dies in office and that awful awful woman becomes President...scary.

lilibet · 04/11/2008 12:19

It's the assasination threat that worries me, I do pray and I am praying for him

What on earth is Katre Winslet thinking - she's an attractive woman for heaven's sake!!

And I never went on the DM website before I came on here and met you lot - you are a bad influence

mrsboogie · 04/11/2008 12:24

it doesn't count (Daily Mail) if you don't actually hand over any money for it Lilibet at least that's what I tell myself.

hedgepig · 04/11/2008 12:28

i agree with MrsB it doesn't count if you don't had over cash, I would never buy the DM but I love a bit of goss' and the Guardian just doesn't do gossip.
I am very proud of myself I have drilled holes to put up my Iron holder and it is still on the wall 10 mins later

mrsboogie · 04/11/2008 12:35

speaking of the DM - did you see the state of silly old Posh getting on a plane at LAX?? talk about uncomfortable wear for a flight! and she looks like someone who might be entertaining Max Mosley in his err unorthodox leisure pursuits

hedgepig · 04/11/2008 12:42

OMG the mind boggles at that combination!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
must go and lie down

jeanjeannie · 04/11/2008 12:42

Hi y'all...*to be said in a Texan drawl!

Yep...we're all a'praying for Obamba here. Just have to hope that those who say they're going to vote for him actually do.

What's with this old bloke wanting to be the most powerful leader in the world...? He's SEVENTY TWO! Most people are retired by then....forgetting what they've gone to the kitchen for and going on SAGA holidays.

Makes me laugh about Obama's 'lack of experience...' Right, and look what a mess Bush has made with lots of experience. I met his mum once....that's another story for another day! Oh, and I met Clinton in LA...very charismatic.

Obama can wear a suit really well.....sadly counts for a lot in my book Agree with tee...just hope there's no nutter assasign out there.

Also agree with hedgepig he will be inheriting a right old mess...as will whoever gets into power here.

jw have nice hair time...always pleasing.

Right that's enough serious stuff...off to look a DM site! Like mrsB no money will be parted with for the reading of suff rubbish

jeanjeannie · 04/11/2008 12:49

hedgepig what's an iron holder???? It also sounds like something Max Moseley would be interested in

mrsB @ posh!

Poor you tee with your early waking. You're certainly getting in the practice for having a small baby. Booking in will be fine, just loads of questions and lots of blood taken.

Ermintrude welcome. Sorry you've been feeling so poorly. I agree with the others, I think it's nothing to do with age and it's probably just bad luck that you get such bad sickness. Hope you're managing to eat enough to keep ypuir strength up. I'm due in April and haven't joined an ante-natal thread as everybody on the April one seemed so young and enthusiastic Not that we're old and jaded here of course.

I couldn't do the Morrocan lamb jj as I'm cooking a lamb tagine for this weekend. So I did do the old faithful Delia luxury shepherds pie. It does have some cinnamon in it which makes it stand out from the crowd! I used to work in TV on food programmes in the olden days (remember when Chris Kelly and Michael Barry were on Food and Drink? That was my era!) and have a lovely tagine recipe from Anthony Wozza Tossa. Glad your back is a bit better.

Had to go to Brent Cross, our nearest shopping centre, to get DH some trousers this morning. He's going on a works do this evening and he only has jeans or suit trousers as his one pair of 'smart casuals' were a bit on the snug side. Not that he's been helping me out with the halloween chocolate or anything. Of course while I was there I had to have a look around for myself and managed to buy a pair of boots. Reduced in price as well. Have been looking for a pair for ages so I am thrilled. What do you think of them Thought they would go well with the Blooming Marvellous frock. Must stop spending now!

ladymac · 04/11/2008 13:03

Glad we're all for Obama. His wife is a bit scary though. Apparently she does the same as Condeleeza Rice, gets up at about 4am so she can exercise and do chores Hope you're taking notes tee

Ooh, must check out DM website. Have only read The Times so far and need something to balance it out!

mrsboogie · 04/11/2008 13:13

ooh ladymac very nice - will go a treat with that dress/tunic - a nice length they are too. Lucky you being able to wear boots - do make the most of it - I can't get my calves into boots since being pg

oh I would love a job working on cookery programmes - I am addicted to uktvfood and watch every one going. How fab ladymac

just ordered a lovely charlie choo choo comfort balnket with Darragh's name on it online here here looks very sweet.

mrsboogie · 04/11/2008 13:19

the thing that I like about Michelle is that she is "real" rather than the other one with all her plastic surgery and diamonds and the wrists that break when people shake her hand.. whereas Michelle buys her clothes off t'internet with her own money from places like Gap and complains that obama doesn't take the rubbish out..

ladymac · 04/11/2008 13:28

Oh it's gorgeous mrsb. It looks so soft and snuggly. Do you think I could get a big one for myself!

I have quite muscular calves myself and have tried on lots of boots and felt embarrassed when the assistant was standing over me while I was trying to tug the zip up. The ones I bought are the first pair I found that fitted.

How ridiculous does Posh look in that leather get-up? And I hate Lulu, even more when she says her youthful looks are down to good eating and yoga!

mrsboogie · 04/11/2008 13:34

I want an Amby Hammock for myself - Darragh's looks so comfy and he sleeps so well in it

ermintrude13 · 04/11/2008 13:43

Now who was it who warned me that there was a lot of Daily Mail chat on this thread? I was slightly concerned until I read all the Obama stuff and realised you're taking the p**s out of the DM rather than ringing its praises! At my quarterly (the credit crunch is making me talk in fiscal terms) hair colour and cut they used to bring me Vanity Fair and Harpers to read - flatters! - until I had to whisper my preference - so now they dump a pile of the trashiest Heat and Closer mags in front of me and I'm like a pig in mud for an hour or so.

ladymac - two of my sisters - one with skinny calves, the other with v muscular ones - swear by this place www.duoboots.com You tell them what calf size you are and you get boots to fit. They have a really good range of boots too.

Thanks for all the advice re: nausea. It's just bad luck, I guess.
