Will I look a complete knob if I turn up at hospital with 2 big bags of stuff?

I've tried to keep it to the bare minimum but I've ended up with two huge bags

Is everybody going to point and laugh?

no, I had 2 big bags and a big pillow you may not need it all but best to be prepared, you can alwyas get DH/DP to bring in more after the birth if you want to cut down on what you take initially.

LadyOfWaffleIsScaryEnough · 10/10/2008 13:03

How huge? I had one big, and 2 smaller last time but one suitcase this time. Whatever you feel comfortable with! I am so I wish I was at this stage again... it's so exciting!

scorpio1 · 10/10/2008 13:04

I had a wheely suitcase thing...

Gosh you must be getting so excited!

EffiePerine · 10/10/2008 13:04

how is the bare minimum 2 large bags worth?

WeeBesom · 10/10/2008 13:05

Better to be prepared than not! I had a huge bag, someone (a midwife, I think) made a comment about it but I used everything so who cares!

MamaG · 10/10/2008 13:05

I did think of that Mich, but I want to have it all with me rather than relying on DH to bring in the wrong things I left at home

Sort of big holdall size Lady. Can't remember how much I took last time (or the time before!). How many weeks are you? I'm only 37 but thought I'd better pack as its my third

JuneBugJen · 10/10/2008 13:05

Nope, took an enormous wheelie suitcase thing for my CS and used most of the stuff in it!

SixSpotBonfire · 10/10/2008 13:06

No-one will notice and, if you don't go to hospital until you are just about to pop, then you won't care if they notice.

When are you due? It seems like about a fortnight since you first posted that you were pregnant...

EffiePerine · 10/10/2008 13:07

Cann you pack in two bags and leave the second with a big flourescent label on for DH to bring?

I'd be less worried about seeming silly and more about stuff going missing TBH, but then I am having my baby in east London where they pinch all the pillows

MamaG · 10/10/2008 13:08

Effie it really is the bare min! I'm stayinkg for 2-3 nights in lovely MLU

3 nighties
3 pj bottoms
dressing gown
3 tops for daytime
10 knicks
1 pack nappies
10 babygros & 10 vests (in case sicky baby)
1 pack breast pads
3 pakcs STs
1 big towel
toiletry bag
camera
slippers
socks
bras
snacks for DH
bottle of juice
tissues
cotton wool

think thats it - pretty essential?

I am getting excited scorpio but keep reminding myself I'll probably/possibly still have 5 weeks to wait!

scorpio1 · 10/10/2008 13:09

MadameOvary · 10/10/2008 13:09

Ahahahahaha
I had 2 bags plus pillows, you're fine.
(I wanted to take dressing gown and towels)

MamaG · 10/10/2008 13:09

i have two bags.

still don't know if i'm going to CLU or MLU but if it's CLU it'll be for 2 nights if it's MLU it's only 24 hours.

have to wait for scan next week to see if DS is breech at nearly 38 weeks .

scorpio1 · 10/10/2008 13:12

It just helped me, as first timer. Sure you will be ok, but lansinoh is good (purple box, bout a tenner in Boots)

MamaG · 10/10/2008 13:13

Will they try to turn him expat? My MW is going ot have a good feel next week (when I'm 38 weeks) as I'm feeling almost all the kicking movements at the bottom of my bump, and just a big lump shifting from side to side at hte top of my bump (IYKWIM). She said she'll send me for a scan if she's not sure.

Are you hoping for MLU? 24 hours isn't long is it

OP posts:
TheUnsinkableMB · 10/10/2008 13:13

Of course not, I had huge wheely suitcase and a vanity case full of smellies and makeup etc which never saw the light of day!

expatinscotland · 10/10/2008 13:16

don't know what they will do, Mama. will see at scan next week. he's watermelon/transverse just now but he is still very high, so i don't expect him to show up any time soon as it is.

CLU is just so far away and transferring there is such a PITA because of the loch, but MLU has been moved to such a small unit it's hard to know which is better.

feeling a lot of anxiety about it all as a result.

if he's breech you know i'm just tempted to say fuck it and schedule the csection so can plan at least.

EffiePerine · 10/10/2008 13:18

ah, you'll be OK then

Lansinoh is good stuff

MamaG · 10/10/2008 13:22

Its shit isn't it expat. I'm not quite as in teh sticks as you, but it does make planning for it so hard.

If my baby is breech (prob isn't) I think I will end up saying I want a CS and plan it that way, so I know where you're coming frmo

I have two bags.

I was having HB last time so was completely unprepared. Turned up with not much and had to use 2 baby towels when I got out the shower! def putting more in and DH can bring what else I need. They are funny at providing stuff so better have more!
