I am currently a patient of Mark Johnson and I cannot speak highly enough of him. He has a great bedside manner and answers all of my questions with thoughtfulness and sincerity. I haven't yet experience a delivery with him (end of May) but I wouldn't be trust anyone more than him at this point.

Earlybird · 28/02/2006 22:37

I went to Guy Thorpe-Beeston as a private patient for the first 6 months of my pregnancy. I really liked him, though chose to deliver in another country. When I went to him, he had a very good reputation - and presumably still does.

guy thorpe beeton IS a made up name surely?

MummyPig · 28/02/2006 22:48

Met Nick Wales once and was impressed but maybe that's because he was mostly saying what I wanted to hear Smile.

Had been classed as 'high risk' second pregnancy because was induced with ds1 due to suspected pre-eclampsia. He checked my notes and decided I hadn't really had pre-eclampsia and didn't need to worry second time round. I wish he'd been there first time, but his wife was having his first child.

He did try to persuade me out of a home birth by mentioning risk of post-partum-haemorrhage, but I went away and researched it and found there was no larger risk associated with having a home birth. But at the end of the session he revealed that his wife was planning a home birth with number 2, so he can't have managed to persuade her either!

Overall, very pleasant, friendly and approachable.

LOL - it does sound hugely posh/pretentious, and he does have an office on Harley Street. But, he's actually a kind, thoughtful, rather handsome man who made me feel comfortable with his knowledge/expertise. No idea about his personal background though.

CountessDracula · 28/02/2006 22:58

I know Nick Wales and Roger Marwood in fact Roger Marwood was drafted in in the middle of the night to operate on me for 9 hours when I had a post partum haemorrhage, so can't really complain about him as I am still alive! I found him rather arrogant though but was on IV morphine so not really to be trusted I suspect. Nick Wales was lovely but I was annoyed with him when he admitted me for slightly high bp.

You are missing Martin Lupton from your list. I am currently under his care and think he is fantastic. He has a very calming and helpful approach and am very pleased with the care I've received so far.

janinlondon · 01/03/2006 13:14

I know Roger Guy and Mark. Is there something specific you are looking for?

Tinker · 01/03/2006 13:16

I've "known" one of them!

janinlondon · 01/03/2006 13:22

Well three have seen parts of me I'd rather not remember, but I think Tinker is hinting at something rather more intimate!!!!! Come on! Which one??

louloubelle · 01/03/2006 13:43

I am under Nick Wales' care at the moment (due in 4 weeks), after a first time delivery 2 years ago on the midwife led bit which all went pear shaped and I ended up being delivered by Guy TB, who then operated on me after a PPH. Nick specialises in high blood pressure, which I don't have. My scans have all been with Keith Duncan (he and Nick cover for each other)

I'm sure that Guy TB only delivers elective C sections at C and W, and vaginal deliveries at Portland. If you have any specific questions, please ask!

CountessDracula · 01/03/2006 13:58

Martin Lupton is totally fab. He was like a friend to me when I was in hospital for ages having dd. Didn't know he had made consultant, good for him!

Also Zoe someone can't remember her surname, she was really excellent

And Prof Steer who is totally amazing

janinlondon · 01/03/2006 14:26

I forgot Prof Steer. Second CD on that one.

Tinker · 01/03/2006 16:07

Ooo, not sure I should name him Grin. I thought he was rather swoonsome and a bit Jeff Goldbumy but it was a few years ago now.

TinCan · 01/03/2006 16:47

I think it's Zoe Penn

AussieinLondon · 01/03/2006 19:20

Mark Johnson did my emergency c-section and though I barely saw him he was incredibly confident and reassuring.

PrincessPeaHead · 01/03/2006 23:22

Nick Wales v good and instinctive. Wouldn't go for Guy Thorpe Beeston myself. Zoe Penn good by all accounts (and delivered Leo for Cherie if that makes any difference to you!)

CountessDracula · 02/03/2006 09:37

yes penn that's the one

She was my main consultant until Steer stepped in at the last moment. A friend of mine who is a consultant in the clap clinic there recommended her and she proved pretty fab

katie65 · 20/03/2006 20:11

My consultant is also Martin Lupton and he is just lovely - really genuinely concerned about my health and concerns (some of which are ridiculous....).
I couldn't recommend him highly enough

awayfromhome · 24/03/2006 07:49

I was seen by Nick Wales and Guy Thorpe-Beeston during my last pregnancy.

I would have to say that Guy Thorpe-Beeston was the best for me both in terms of listening and giving the full picture of what was going on.

FlyingSaucer · 19/06/2006 23:48

Does anyone have any further thoughts to add about the C & W consultants? A friend has recommended Keith Duncan or Guy Thorpe Beeston, but I feel rather lost as to who I should choose and how I should make the decision Blush. Is there any significance in consulting rooms in Harley Street?

lou33 · 20/06/2006 01:19

thorpe-beeston was v nice

Tinker · 20/06/2006 07:15

KD was very dishy.

wilbur · 20/06/2006 10:51

V good friend of mine had two planned c-sections with Mark Johnson - she rates him very highly, and she is not one to give that kind of praise lightly.

alexh · 21/06/2006 10:21

Close friend of mine has been with Guy T-B for two pregnancies and liked him very much.
