I'm I miscarrying?

I'm just over five weeks pregnant with my first pregnancy and over the last five days have been experiencing bleeding. Started off on day one a small spots of blood (which I thought was spotting) then on day two in the evening had some deep red/blown blood when I wiped myself which was only there once. Day three back to small brown spots, then day four in the morning after wiping, again deep red blood. Day five brown blood all throughout the day. Not pain, but very tender just below the stomach and some very light back pain. Pregnancy test still showing pregnant. Doctor reckons I could be losing it. Have a scan booked in when I'm six weeks. Does anyone reckon my Chances of this not being a miscarriage?

I don't know Im afraid, thinking of you though. xx

StealthPolarBear · 05/09/2008 21:36

no experience just so sorry if that is what's happening

DrNortherner · 05/09/2008 21:38

Not sure sweetie. Some people bleed and the baby is fine, others sadly end in miscarriage.

The waiting time is the worst.

Btw, a pregnancy test wil still show a positive result even after a m/c cause the hormones are still there.

Rest, try not to worry. Good luck.
xx

I really don't know and I'm so sorry as this is the most horrible thing to happen (and it always seems to happen at the weekend when the EPU's aren't open). If it's any help at all I did spot when pregnant with my DS and it all came to nothing but I've also had two previous miscarriages so know exactly how heartbreaking it feels. I'm thinking of you x

nobodysfool · 05/09/2008 21:39

So sorry to hear your worrying news.
There is a Early Pregnancy Unit (EPU) at my local hospital who scanned me could you ring the hosp and see if you can be seen by them.
Just for the record i'm 20 weeks pregnant now with dc#2 and had 5 massive bleeds-not just spotting.I also had lots of spotting from 4-8 weeks various coloured blood. So please don't think the worse will happen it may be ok.Thinking of you.Keep in touch and let us know how you get on with hosp xxxx

johnworf · 05/09/2008 21:39

Have you rung your early pregnancy unit at your local hospital? They may ask you to go in for a scan to see what's happening.

forkhandles · 05/09/2008 21:41

If the doctors think you might be a miscarriage is there anyway you could get an appointment for a scan before next week? Or did they say just to wait and see?

zwiggy · 05/09/2008 21:41

not necessarily. no one knows so the best you can do is think positive

Ralphie0956 · 05/09/2008 21:44

Thank you for all your messages. I have been in contact with the early pregnancy unit and they have booked me in for a six week scan next week, other than that there is nothing they can do. I spose it's nature's way of telling me, maybe not this time. Will let you know how it turns out, fingers and toes crossed x

Well I bled quite a bit around that time in my first pg and it was fine. My friend also had a very heavy bleed and she was also fine. However, it could also be a m/c. Unfortunately, you will just have to wait- agonising I know. Lots of love and hope everything is ok for you xxx

1girlie1boydy · 05/09/2008 21:59

Hi, I had a miscarriage at 6 weeks before i fell pregnant with my daughter, now 3.

During my pregnancy with my daughter i had heavy bleeding between 12 and 19 weeks, as it turned out i had an infection which cleared up with antibiotics.

Unfortunatley the bleeding in both cases was exactly the same so it could go either way. I would say try not to worry but we both know you will be worried sick until your scan. I know exactly how you feel.

I hope everything goes ok and everything is fine this time.

Not really sure if this will help you (prob not) but i lost my first baby on the 27th March 2004 and fell pregnant with my daughter on the 9th April 2004.

Thinking of you. xx

When I was pregnant the first time, I was spotting quite a lot of dark brown blood with pieces of tissue. This changed into fresh blood after 2 weeks and that was the end.

Now, my second pregnancy, I have been spotting for 6 weeks from a week 6, dark brown bits, but only a little (would make my knickers dirty but would not leak further). It turned out that I had a cervical erosion which caused it. I just today started 22week and doing well so far. So not every spotting is miscarriage . Hope this helped and possibly calmed you down.

AvenaLife · 05/09/2008 23:46

I had bleeding like this when I was pregnant with ds. I had to have a scan at 7 weeks to check so I had to wait 3 days not knowing if I was still pregnant. It was horrid.

He's 9 now.

gigglewitch · 05/09/2008 23:50

have had the same thing as you describe go both ways - ds2 was a mad pg when i started bleeding at 5wks, turned out that he was apparently a twin and they totally did my head in by scanning me every 2 weeks.
Try to rest as much as you can - stay off work if you have a chance, whether you go out to a job or do stuff at home, honestly it helps.

fingers crossed for you

ellsbellzie · 06/09/2008 15:50

Im about weeks pregnant, with my second child, and im really worried I started bleeding yesterday, it started off with a little spot of brown blood then later on red, not loads though covered a tissue, today its just random spots of brown. Got slight tummy ace but nothing major. I called my doctor who didint really help, he said it happens sometimes and to wait for my scan, which Im not sure when it will be as, not got my first midwife appointment until the 18th. Am I misscarrying, and does anyone know if they will scan me early? x

ellsbellzie · 06/09/2008 15:51

Sorry I didnt put how many weeks im 6 weeks!!

AvenaLife · 06/09/2008 15:54

They should scan you early if you request this. My GP sent me for a scan a few days after a bleed rather then leave it until the scan date a few weeks later (12 weeks?). If you phone the hospital they should be able to help you alot more. Try phoning the early pregnancy unit.

I hope it's all OK for you.

ellsbellzie · 06/09/2008 16:44

Thanks! I spoke to the hospital yestarday and they told me to ring the doctors on Monday morning to request a scan, they said the hospital dont scan at weekends, only if really bad bleeding and pain. What is the early pregnancy unit, are they open at weekends do you know?

lucykate · 06/09/2008 17:16

ime epu's aren't normally open weekends, really frustrating!. when you go in next week, if the scan is inconclusive, which can be the case this early on, ask about having a blood test to check the hormone levels, they can repeat this a couple of days later and they can tell a lot about what is going on by what is happening with the levels, ie going up or down.

i sympathise, as i've been through all this, i had early bleeding with dd, all was ok and she's now 6, but have also experienced bleeding that resulted in a m/c. with dd, the bleeding was pretty bad, and lasted til 23 weeks!, but despite all that she was fine.

ellsbellzie · 06/09/2008 17:42

Txs! I havent had any futher bleeding today only brown specs on tissue when going to the loo! Im hoping its nothing to worry about. With my first who is now 10, I didnt realise I was pregnant until I was 5 and 1/2 months, I cant remmber if I had bleeding all I remmber was my periods were iregular. All I can do is hope and pray!

Ralphie0956 · 06/09/2008 18:12

Ellsbellzie, I really know where your coming from, my scan is not until Wed and I'm having to hold out until then.
I hope everything works out ok for you, try to stay postive x

Txs! Keep in touch and I hope all is well for you! x

brettgirl2 · 07/09/2008 10:39

I can symapthise - I'm 9 weeks and have been spotting since 51/2. GP thought I was having a miscarriage and I was sent for a scan - everything looked OK. It continued so was sent for another scan 2 weeks later, again everything apparently fine. It's really messing with my head though, although it's not much blood it just feels so wrong. I now have to wait until 12 weeks scan, EPU think it is nothing to worry about - but easier said than done!

ellsbellzie · 07/09/2008 12:04

I know it is easy for them to say 'it happens and its nothing to worry about' I hope everything works out for you. I hope they let me have a scan tommrow I just need to know whats going on, its agonising!!
