Hi Dotty - I had a bowl of rice krispies after the crumpets so equally as nutritious Like you say, you've got to eat whatever you can stomach at the time.

Hi Dinny - it sucks doesn't it? I am finding evenings the worst too. Around 5/6pm seems to be most icky for me. If you need some support, feel free to join us on this thread. It has now evolved into a MS support thread! And boy, do I need the support!

As Dotty says, one day at a time.

dinny · 19/08/2008 08:47

thanks Cosmogirl - wonder why evenings are worst

I had been a bit better for a few days but was sick last night, bleurgh

feel Ok again this morning though!

Dotty38 · 19/08/2008 10:06

Woke up, ate two rich tea biscuits before getting out of bed, actually managed a cup of tea (not been able to stomach that for a week) have had Crunchy nut cornflakes again and right now this minute I must say I'm feeling loads better than yesterday. Still feel sick but don't feel as overwhelmed by it...... heres hoping this continues!

Hope you all fare OK today and Hi Dinny come and join us in the marathon to break this yuk nausea. I don't what I'd do if I didn't share these feelings on here as I feel like such a moaner to other half, especially as I was so pleased to get pregnant in the first place! I never expected to feel this bad though, probably rather niaeve on my part!

dinny · 19/08/2008 10:08

thanks Dotty

actually, I am MUCH less sick than I was with my 2nd pregnancy, so shouldn't moan really

I was sick then about 8-10 times a day at least, for 5 months

first pregnancy I felt nauseous but was not sick that much, a bit like this pg - and it stopped about 12 wks (maybe to do with it being a girl, I wonder...)

Cosmogirl · 19/08/2008 10:17

Morning!

Glad to hear you're both feeling better this morning.
I'm working from home today and struggling to get motivated to do anything. It is so hard to work when you feel like this. I reckon pregnant women should be given the first three months off work! In no other situation would people go into work feeling like this, but because you are 'pregnant not ill' you feel like you have to.....Rubbish!

Ah well, well try to force food in today even though I have no appetite at the moment...

Dotty38 · 19/08/2008 13:40

Hi there.

I agree pregnant women should have the option of the 1st three months off work with no guilt attached. I've been working from home on and off over the last few weeks but I must say I'm not being very productive at all! But it's been a saviour to not have to face the office on some days!!

Cosmogirl · 19/08/2008 16:06

I hear that Dotty! We should write to Gordon Brown and suggest it .

shish · 19/08/2008 20:30

Hiya. Didn't get a chance to post yesterday as we went straight to my in-laws after work and by the time I got distressed ds to sleep, I was ready for bed myself. Had a couple of disturbed nights with him so that hasn't really helped either.

You both seem to be doing the same as me - eating whatever you feel like for now. I think that's the only way through the next few eeks and then once we're past this phase we can conentrate more on eating all the right things.

Hope you've both had a reasonable day x

Hi there. I am 8wks +4 and have been feeling dreadful for about 3 weeks now. Exhausted all the time, and nauseous (although I have not actually been sick). I am eating twice as much as normal (literally) and so have also put on a lot of weight, which is depressing me. However, I only feel ok when I am eating.
Have been trying acupuncture, but it has not worked very well.
Also, I have a 1 yo to look after. And I literally feel like I have no energy.
FED UP!

Dotty38 · 20/08/2008 09:42

Hi Madigan

I'm exactly 8+4 today too and I and the other girls on the board are with you when you say 'FED UP'. It's relentless and awful. And I can't imagine looking after a little one too so I really do sympathise with you.

Like you I only get any relief when I'm eating once I stop the nausea rushes over me and it's horrible. I'm struggling to eat anything other than cerial and milk at the mo it's all I seem to be able to cope with so I'm litterally surviving on about 5 or six bowls of cerial a day, plus lots of fizzy drinks - lemonade, fizzy water, basically anything fizzy.

I got told off (well nicely warned) yesterday by my midwife about not getting too dehydrated as she was struggling to get any blood from me she blamed it on me being dehydrated, but I wonder whether it was because she couldn't find my veins?? Anyway today I'll try and drink more! Other half also said this morning I need to eat and drink properly, well I nearly thumped him as he clearly has no idea how awful it is and I know as well as him that I need to eat properly I'm not choosing to be faddy!! GRRRRRRRRRRRR (sorry rant over).

I already seem to have put weight on, I'm trying not to worry about that though but I know it's another rusbbish aspect to deal with.

Have to go back to the surgery to give my bloods today, so fingers crossed she'll get some!

hope today goes OK for everyone
Dotty

Madigan · 20/08/2008 14:33

Hi Dotty

you sound a bit worse off than me, you poor thing, as I can now eat quite a lot of things. At first, I could only bear "white food" i.e. bread, cereal, potatoes, biscuits! Now I will eat a wider range of things, and made a resolution as of today to try to eat healthily .... because I have put on a shocking amount of weight in the last few weeks. Fizzy water is a godsend. I am finding that I cannot survive more than about 2 hours without eating something. If I do not eat, I feel absolutely terrible.

Are you also knackered all the time? I literally feel I have no energy at all, despite the amount I am eating. I am not getting as much sleep as I would like, but I am getting a fair amount and I wish I could feel more energetic.

I did not have any of this with my last pregnancy. No nausea at all. I was a bit tired, but not as much as this time.

Why are you giving bloods, if you do not mind me asking???

ChocolateEclair · 20/08/2008 15:19

Oooo Ladies, I'll join you. It will be nice to talk to some people who sound just as bad as me!

I'm 8 weeks today and have been really suffering with all day nausea for about 3 weeks now. I'm only actually being sick about twice a day but I feel sick all the time (except when I'm asleep)!!!

The only foods I can stomach are milk, mullerice, toast and shreddies. I haven't eaten a fruit or vegetable for nearly a week!(The shame) and think I must be dehydrated too. I have lost 4 lbs so far

Fresh air works. Eating tiny amounts but every hour helps. Sucking sweets helps a bit too.
I have heard of these little sweets called 'preggie pops' but checked in Boots today and theye don't stock them. Lady was very sympathetic though! Apparently the Dr can prescribe something but not sure how bad it has to be????

Dotty38 · 20/08/2008 15:38

Hi Madigan

I reakon you're probably feeling much worse because you've got a 1 year year old to look after, I bet you're not able to rest as much as with the 1st pregnancy.

I've just managed to scoff some toast with banana!! . Need to try and keep this up, as am a bit worried about lack of nutricious diet at the mo. One thing I am finding is once I find something I can eat without retching I'm sticking to it. I think fear is playing a role as I'm consciously trying to minimise actually throwing up as it's awful. Have only been properly sick 3 or 4 times and even then it was while I had a stinking headache too, so maybe that played a part??

On the tiredness stakes I do feel very tired too but when I try and catch 40 winks I just can't sleep at all during the day. But I cope far better when I'm working at home. The tiredness really gets me about 1pm onwards if I have to be out and about for work. Must be becaue I'm doing more physically. Can you catch any sleep or rest during the day? Maybe when little one has a sleep?? It must be tricky as I bet that's a good opportunity to get stuff done.

Bloods this morning were the standard ones for rhesus and antibodies, blood grp and rubella, HIV, Heb B and syphillis (I think I rememeber rightly). Saw a different midwife today as the usual one was off work and she had no probs getting blood out of me, phew!! I did make a conserted effort to drink more this morning. And I hear you girl - fizzy water is a godsend as it's a fix without all the sugar in lemonade or coke etc!!

Hope your day is going OK?

Dotty

Madigan · 20/08/2008 16:01

Hi dotty and choc

feeling a bit better today. I had a 3rd session of acupuncture this morning ... I started going in desparation a week or so ago. I don't feel too bad this afternoon, but wonder if that is because I keep eating ??? or maybe the acupuncture is working ...
I do have some help with the baby, THANK GOD, so I can get some rest during the day ... but I do find it hard to sleep. I think the worst bit is the nights when baby does not sleep well, and I am up 3 or 4 times during the night ... that's a killer! especially when I am feeling sick .... I have a stock of bananas by my bed - I have to eat one before I get up or I feel absolutely horrendous!

I definitely did not have nausea with my last pregnancy ... at all.... and I had a girl (she is gorgeous - my little angel!). So I am wondering whether it might be a boy this time round? What do you reckon? Most people say that morining sickness is associated with girls ....

Are you excited about being pg, apart from the MS?

This pg came as a complete shock ... we had to have IVF last time, and this one was a natural miracle less than a year later .... what a shock!

girlywhirly · 20/08/2008 16:16

Chewing raisins helped me, in fact any strong flavoured dried fruit. I also had a real passion for spicy/tangy flavours. I found early on that just eating full stop made me feel better. Apparently, soda water helps nausea. Definitely a good idea to eat little and often.

Cosmogirl · 21/08/2008 12:44

Hi ladies,

Well sickness has definitely increased for me in week 8. I now have my head down the toilet around 5 pm every night and today at lunchtime for the first time. However, somehow my body is still resisting and I haven't thrown up yet. I am so close though and just end up spitting into the toilet and willing myself not to be sick. It is so so horrible And the stupid thing is, if my body would just let me be sick I'd prob feel better, but because of my phobia I have trained myself to do everything not to vomit.....

Welcome to the new joiners to this thread. Hopefully soon we will all be looking back at these early weeks feeling fantastic again....

How is everyone coping at work? I am finding it a real struggle and my boss is very unsympathetic. If it turns into proper vomiting I think I will have to call in sick. Couldn't bear to be sick in work toilets - yuck...

Cosmogirl · 21/08/2008 12:49

By the way my boss is a man with no children....what a surprise!

Dotty38 · 21/08/2008 13:36

Hiya ladies

God it's awful. No change for me today still feel as sick as ever. I suppose the only good thing is I do feel less flu like, I rekon I felt like that because I was so exhaustered from the weekend.

Funnily enough today I'm really fancying some quiche (I hope I don't make you all feel worse) so I'm going to go up to the sandwich shop up the road as she makes gorgeous quiches. So far today have scoffed on cerial again. At least that is a bit more nutricious than blumin Crunchy nut cornflakes!

Cosogirl I do feel for you with the boss problems. I'm really lucky as I work in my other half's business and so I don't have that difficulty. My problem is when I'm not working I'm not earning which is such pressure... so even if I do decide I'm feeling too bad I just can't stop as it means I won't get paid and I feel so bad on other half as hes working his socks off! If I was you if you feel to bad to be at work then tell him and go home. You need to look after yourself, if he kicks up a stink go to HR or start mentioning the unions (I know that sounds extreme but it's a card worth playing if it gets to that point and is appropriate). Or how about the GP and see if you can get signed off even just for a week. I say this because feeling like this is blumin awful and so hard to cope with working too. I hope today goes quickly for you cosmogirl and I hope you don't mind my strong advice but like we said before I reckon Gordon Brown should sanction the first 3 months as paid leave anyway.

My seabands are working, I look like an 80s workout instructor in them but really don't care. Gawd knows what my colleagues think - probably assume it's a new fad and next week they'll all have wristbands on!

I also ordered some preggie pop drop sweets from the same website. Turns out they are just boiled sweets, sour apple flavour. Marvelous though! Think any sour sweets would do for me.

Also sipping ginger ale that I've let go a bit flat.

In terms of foods, hard to say as it changes day by day e.g. Monday plain pasta was manna from heaven, yesterday I couldn't even look at it. Am going with the principle that anything I fancy, I eat - as it won't last! And am a bit worried I've not been eating and drinking enough.

Hope you find something that works for you soon!

dinny · 21/08/2008 19:53

lol, Binky, I always wonder what the feck people must think I am wearing vile wristbands for!!

my nausea has been bad today - seems to be having a surge, am nearly 12 wks

shish · 22/08/2008 21:27

Hi to everyone,

Sorry I haven't been on for a while. Have felt so awful - just couldn't face sitting on the computer. Have been going to sleep as soon as ds is asleep - daytime and nighttime!!

I find that the fizzy drinks aren't working for me at all this time - just making me feel a lot worse. With ds I lived on slightly flat lemonade.

Eating little and often, otherwise it just gets so much worse.

Can't wait for this phase to end now. It seems to be dragging!

Cosmogirl · 23/08/2008 08:52

Dreadful isn't it Shish? Week 8 has definitely been the worst week for me so far. I have been over the toilet once or twice a day this week nearly throwing up but managing not to....Week 7 it was purely the constant nausea, no sign of being physically sick.

I am just a bit worried about what week 9 has in store for me.....don't know how much more of feeling like this I [or dh] can put up with. It just completely messes with your quality of life.

Dotty - thanks for your kind words about work. I think I need to ditch the guilty conscience and just do what is best for me. I saw HR yesterday and she was really nice, so if boss is rude to me I know what to say now. I think what is so frustrating is people don't realise the hell we are going through - they prob think we are making it up...

shish · 23/08/2008 13:55

Yeah.. I thought things were getting better, but then it all got a lot worse. Hopefully things will start to improve soon.

Orangina, ice cold from the fridge sipped slowly before each meal. Worked wonders.
