I'm 13 weeks pg and have been bleeding on and off (mostly on) from 5 weeks.
I have have 4 scans so far to check everything is ok.
The second scan they found the area that was bleeding-i was told it wasn't near the baby.
But when i phoned and spoke to the ward about the next scan they had my notes there and said "oh, i see from one of the scans the bleed was near the baby".
I said i was told different and they just said "oh,right".
That worried me.
Then, at my scan last week the consultant did my scan-only beacuse the Early pregnancy Unit had to close early and asked my history etc then as he was scanning he asked me how old i was.
I told him "33" then he said "ok".
He went on to say that everything seemed fine and was all my antenatal care in place.
So now i'm worrying that he saw something on the scan that wasn't right and my age may have been a factor.
Dh tells me i'm reading too much into this and that he would have to tell us if he saw a problem.
I don't know why i'm worring so much about this pregnancy.
Sorry this is so long but i need to hear some other peoples opinion.

Thanks everlong-i'm not usually so neurotic.
I know your right that the consultant would't have let me go if there was a problem but the age question has put a seed of doubt in my mind.I suppose im worried about downs etc.

It is completely understandable that you are worrying but you might, in your very natural desire to find out as much as possible and to want reassurance that things are ok, be reading too much into everything they say. I would do exactly the same but as everlong said, you are nearly in the 2nd trimester and things will hopefully settle down soon. I hope they do and that you are able to enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.

Thanks ladies.
I will speak to the mw,have got an appt at the begining of Aug and my 5 month scan is the end of aug.
My mw has said i may not be able to have the downs test if i am still bleeding as it alters the chemicals.I suppose thats another thing thats worrying me.
Your right they would HAVE to tell me if they saw a problem.
I'm driving myself up the wall worrying-it's so not me.

No wonder you are worried, but I know of women who have bled and still carried full term with no problems. If there was something we would have mentioned it. maybe asked your age to see if you were in the high risk category. I'm sure mw will ease your worries. If you are still concerned why not ask for another scan with EPU. Are you still bleeding?

No bleeding today but it seems to do that the i bleed for a week or so.
It's my 1st blood free day in 12 days.
To be honest EPU look at me like i'm mad i'm sue they think i'm worrying over nothing and should just go away.

Good news you have stopped bleeding, was it dark or bright red? They should be more sympathetic, the only women they see are having problems in early pregancy who are bound to be worried and stressed, how do they expect you to react??

The receptionist treats you with totall indifference.Even my dh noticed it (thats saying someting if he notices!)
They just keep saying we cant see where the blood is coming from and its not unusual to bleed during pregnancy.
I know this (i bled for a week with my first dc-but it was later in the pregnancy) but it doesn't make it any easier.
The blood over the last three days has been almost black and i have only bled during the night and only when i have one of the many trips to the toilet in the night.

The darker it is the better, means it is old blood, it can be more of a worry when its red blood. I would ask the receptionist if she has ever had any difficulties during a pregnancy!! Sod teh strawberries (far too healthy) get your DH to go and get you some chocolate!

Your right epu should be more supportive-the sonographer is always great but the rest of the staff act like they would rather be elsewhere!I wish i wasn't there as well though.

It is easy to start reading things in the way doctors say something. i did it all the time when my lo was in scbu. Just wanted one of them to tell me everything would be ok.

your consultant would have told you if there was a problem, because some action would have been needed, even just preparing you for a possible problem, or maybe admission and bedrest (just spouting here, don't read anything into it I have never had a pregnancy bleed so have no idea what is wrong or not)and also because you have a right to know.

I suggest you ring his secretary. explain that you are unsure about what was said and can he ring you please. He will get your notes, ring you and hopefully reassure you.

just wanted to say good luck, I am currently 14 wks and had bleeding at 11. Its awful. Have read more brown dischange threads than is truly healthy.

nobody's fool - I had bleeding throughout my first pg - from about week 6 to week 36. Bled on average once every 3/4 days, and the most I went without bleeding was one 3 week stretch. Oh, and I gave birth at 36 weeks to a perfectly healthy babe (now 4)
With dd I had two stretches of bleeding early in the pg, and I was slightly disconcerted to have nothing to worry about the rest of the time.

It IS scary and it sounds like your EPU have been a bit crap. But it is very common, and it is very common for them not to be able to find a reason. I was eventually diagnosed as having cervial erosion (basically 'scabs' on your cervix, which bleed easily) but the docs diagnosed everything they fancied for most of the time. The midwives would just shrug and say 'Some women bleed. We never find out why most of the time'

Anyhow, just to give you some confidence, I have two good mates who've also bled in pg and gone onto have healthy babies (both also slightly prem...so maybe get everything ready a few weeks early)

Hope things settle down for you soon. And that some chocolate turns up..

Thanks funny-I had cervical erosion with my 1st dc but that was later in the pgcy and only lasted a short time.Maybe it could be the same thing again this time.
Heart warming you went on to have a healthy dc.
