I had pink/brown discharge at 6 weeks - that was 2 weeks ago, Is it too late to get it checked out now?

I have had 2 m/c before and when I saw the brown/pink discharge I assumed it was another. I was on holiday at the time and had had such bad experiences with hospital staff for my previous 2 m/cs that I decided just to let it happen 'naturally'.

However, it was just one time and have had no more since then. But reading old messages on here, it seems like EVERY bleed/coloured discharge ahould get checked out. I'm now panicking that the discharge was a sign of something bad, but am thinking it's to late to get it checked out now. Have a scan booked in 3 weeks time but that seems a long time away and I'm sick with worry all the time (hoping this is morning sickness as well!).

Do you think I should try and get an earlier scan?

I had this with this pg and my last one, just ring your EPU at the local hospital and they should book you a scan. It is always worth getting checked out, especially with your m/c history. Hope all is well. Sounds quite promising!

Not sure my local hosp has EPU. Pretty sure they don't do scans at weekend. But I suppose I should ring somebody to get it checked out. Is so scary....but suppose best to know one way or the other.

No, they won't do anything over the weekend - whereabouts do you live? Would ring a couple of your local hospitals just to find out if they have an EPU. Which one are you giving birth in?

Could you afford a private scan if you can't get seen at hospital?

blobsbe, was is more of an orangy pink discharge?

If so, I had this between 6-8 weeks. Looked it up and found that it is very common around this time as yu have a surge or progestone ( I think, I can't actually remember which hormone!) at this time, to the cervix. Causing a pinky/orangy discharge.

Brown discharge is old blood. Its the bright red, fresh/frank blood you need to be concerned about genreally although, obviously, I can't tell you not to get checked out, as you should always get checked out. Go to the EPU tell them you had a discharge which might have been bleeding, they will scan you. IT will put your mind 'at rest' either way, and of course you will then be safe should anyhting untoward have gone on...

I just wanted to let you know about my experience to possible put your mind at rest, but I did also go and have an early scan, to be sure. I have a different type of loss a bit further along, not exactly bright red fresh, but it was found that I had a haematoma on the placenta which had caused it.

hi blob2be, I'm no expert (but have had one mc) but I always thought that brown blood is 'old' blood and not usually linked to a current pregnancy, and certainly with my mc the blood was bright red. I know that you will still be worried tho. Have you done a pg test lately? I would have thought that if you had mc 2 weeks ago the line on a test would be pretty faint by now - if the line is still strong then there is every chance things are still well

Like pgwithnumber3 says, can you afford a private scan - we had one with the pregnancy after my mc last year, it was just under £100 but worth it for peace of mind at the time.

Pgwithnumber3, I live in Mid Wales...nearest big hosp is Hereford where I'll give birth. Pretty sure they don't have EPU there, and would find it difficult to get anywhere else due tp public transport constraints (I am in middle of nowhere!).

Unfortunately we couldn't afford a private scan, much as I would love to.

Susiecutie, I'm trying to remember what the discharge was like...think it may have had an orangey hue. Was definitely pink though, and sort of dried to brown (sorry if TMI, but I kept hold of my pants and kept re-checking to see!). I also had a little blood after sex when I was 4 weeks, but wasn't aware at that time that I was preg so didn't worry about it!

Should I just wait until Monday and call my GP?

Snooks, that is a good idea, think will go and buy another test. The thought of it makes so sick with worry, I just don't know how I'd cope if I lost this pregnancy too. Have told DS (he's only 21 months so obviosuly he hasn't really understood, but he likes pointing at my tummy and saying 'what's in mum's tummy? Baby!') and would just be so heartbreaking. Still, I need to find out one way or the other. Is reassuring to hear that brown blood is usually OK. Fingers crossed........

i had the same, and spoke to a nurse at nhs 24,who reassured me, and i wasnt even checked out. She said she'd only be worried by fresh blood. I now have my dd

That's interesting to hear. DH thinks we should just wait for the routine scan, as it was just the one time and not fresh blood.
Not sure what to do now......
Think may go an buy a preg test as Snooks suggested.

I also have been told that bright red fresh blood is more of a concern BUT all discharge with a blood hue should be checked out, for peace of mind as well as medically.

Just rang Hereford Hospital and spoke to a midwife, they need a referral from your GP, make an emergency appointment on Monday (if you can) and see your GP and ask them to refer you for a scan.

Yes, do an pg test, if you had lost the baby two weeks ago, your hormones will have diminished but even so, you could still get a faint line as hormones can stay in your system for a while. For your peace of mind, go to your GP and get a scan done. Otherwise you are going to spend the next 3 weeks panicking.

Oh thank you Pgwithnumber3, that's so nice of you to have done that !
I know my GP reserves some appointments every day for same day booking so will be on the phone at 8am on Monday, and hopefully will get a referal.
As you say, the next 3 weeks will be hell
otherwise.

Thank you Snooks. A good friend is buying me a test in town and she'll be around in a couple of hours with it. I'll let you know how it goes. Feel sick with nerves....am going to take DS out for a long walk to keep myself occupied.

Hi everyone, well I've done the test and it's good news . The 'pregnant' window came up positive within seconds, even before the control window! What a relief! But I'll still try and get an early scan to confirm all is OK.

BibiThree, having done a Google search it seems Bronglais has a small maternity dept so probably no EPU. I'm not sure I would be able to get there anyway TBH, is quite a way away from me. But thank you for the suggestion , i really am so grateful for everybody's help.

Pgwithno3, I do have one DS already, who is 21 months. He is my biggest hope that I will be able to go on and have another healthy preg. Just got to get through these next 4 weeks now until i hit the 12 week mark....seems an age away!

Hello - sorry has taken me so long to reply, been stranded from MN for over 24 hours!
Thanks everyone for all your positive messages. I'm feeling so much better about things today. Starting to dare to believe that this might really work out....but won't really believe I'm pregnant until I see a little baby ticker beating away!
Pgwithnumber3, congrats on your preg! - hopefully I will see you around on here over the next 6 or 7 months! - I am due Feb 28th.
I'll let you know how I get on with getting an early scan - thanks again everyone for your wonderful support.
