I’m 3 months postpartum and I just found out I’m pregnant again. Can anyone with Irish twins tell me about their experience?

I know someone who had twin sisters born when he was 11 months old. 3 under 1 🫣

Flossyknicks · 01/10/2026 09:30

It was tough first year or two but all are now best friends and they had the best childhood. Don’t be a friar to ask for help, even with two

Ths very old fashion term is considered offensive and derogatory.
Plenty of people have close age gaps. Nothing unusual.
Make sure you stay on top of dental care and longer term bone health.

ToastyPockets · 01/10/2026 10:16

@CostcoFanofThree i wasn’t aware of the term being offensive, I’ve read about it now, so thank you for letting me know. I’m a dental nurse so taking take of my oral health should be more than doable for me☺️

Indeed it is.

I myself have a close gap between my first two, a bit more than a year. It was fine.

OP, I posted before I read your update. Thanks for taking the time to read up on it. Hope all goes well.

Ds1 and gf have Irish twins. First baby was born second week of June 2025 and second baby was born 1 June 2026. They’re getting on fine but they’re both very laid back people.

LapinR0se · 01/10/2026 10:18

Oufff as an Irish person I'm not at all keen on that expression.

Best of luck though!! It will be great to have two under two, they'll be best friends.

Dh is Irish. He doesn’t take umbrage

Congratulations, OP - you will be fine! My niece had two DC born exactly a year apart. It really does get easier as they get older, but you will manage.

JudyP · 01/10/2026 11:13

Offensive term to use imho - no need to offend everyone who is Irish

Dontcallmescarface · 01/10/2026 11:24

Op maybe get this thread deleted and start another without using the offending terminology. You're likely to get better answers.

Flossyknicks · 01/10/2026 11:37

I’m Irish and absolutely not offended, just read on if you don’t like it rather than de-railing her thread

Over time, the offensive intent has largely faded. Today, many families use the term in a neutral, lighthearted, or affectionate way to describe the chaotic and close-knit experience of raising two very young children at the same time

I’ve tried to change the wording I’ve used in the post but it won’t let me😭 I know now that it’s not a nice term. I didn’t realise🫶🏼

How do people still think ‘Irish twins’ is acceptable!

Theres no point worrying as it’s done now, you’ll mange and it’ll be lovely having them grow up and be so close in age.

Twins3007 · 01/10/2026 12:56

I had my first son 1st May 1986 and my second son 13th April 1987,they are both the same age for a few weeks, it was hard work because my first born was not an easy baby but my second was an angel 😇

ginasevern · 01/10/2026 13:28

I've never heard the expression, and I'm nearly 70.

I think you can report your own post and ask MN to edit it when you fill in the report form.

Some Irish people not being offended doesn't invalidate the feelings of those who do find it offensive.

sorchanim · 01/10/2026 14:56

I'm also Irish and just understand it to mean two under 1. I'm also aware that contraception was illegal and that it was awful for mums but I'm not offended by this term. Congrats OP! We have an 18-month age gap but it would nearly have been easier having them closer together, our two year old is now a bit jealous of the little one. Definitely prioritise your own health, supplements, pelvic floor etc.

Bully for him. He wouldnt have been the one denied access to contraception and enduring unwanted pregnancies.

Well, the OP doesn’t now, she’s learned after an earlier poster calmly and politely explained, and has gracefully apologised, so…

Tootsurly · 06/10/2026 05:32

Anyone else want to repeat that Irish twins is an offensive term after the OP has acknowledged and apologised?

Yes let’s all take our lead from him.

Yes that’s the whole point of the thread.

Lucyintheskywithnoidea · 06/10/2026 05:40

My eldest two are 9 months apart. It was hard at times (but babies are) but even now as adults they are really close.

Congratulations.
