I’m 3 months postpartum and I just found out I’m pregnant again. Can anyone with Irish twins tell me about their experience?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

OP I’d get this thread deleted and start again . TBH I’d never heard of that term. Anyway good luck with your pregnancy I’m sure having them closer together will make their bond strong as they grow up. Just hope you have a supportive partner to help .

Irish twins is only if they are in the same school year, not just a year apart.

My DH is Irish, one of four, all a year apart, it was very common, ideally they will be in separate year groups at school. It will be tough to start but hopefully they will have a close relationship. Make sure that your OH pulls his weight.

Good routines will be your friend and batch cooking.

OP didn’t realise what she said was offensive someone pointed it out straight away she owned it and apologised
no idea why people the need to pile on ether give some helpful constructive advice about what’s it like about have 2 close together or don’t bother
OP has already been educated in her wrong doing

our friends have a 11 month gap hard a first but kids very close and things like school runs and clubs easier with 2 close together

Bully for him. He wouldnt have been the one denied access to contraception and enduring unwanted pregnancies.

His parents grew up in deepest rural Ireland 80 years ago and neither of them are offended.

Did you actually ask them that today?
Thanks for reporting back, although I’m wondering what your point is?
( Some people are not offended so we can all say whatever we like as I have asked 3 Irish people.)

There are 5 million more of us to ask. Do you want to do a poll?

Ds1 and gf have Irish twins. First baby was born second week of June 2025 and second baby was born 1 June 2026. They’re getting on fine but they’re both very laid back people.

Whereabouts in Ireland were they born?

DramaAlpaca · 06/10/2026 16:32

The way I see it is that it's fine for people who are actually Irish to use the term 'Irish twins' if they want to, but potentially offensive for other nationalities to do so.

As a Brit married to Irish DH, and who's lived in Ireland for many years, I wouldn't dream of using the term given its meaning, history and implications.

I can honestly say I've never heard an Irish person say it either, to be fair, certainly not within my in-laws' large family - which has its fair share of siblings born very close together, including my own first two.

OP did come back and apologise earlier, so there's no need to have a go at her.

Good luck! Sounds exhausting! My dad’s cousin caught pregnant with her daughter like a month or two after having her son and they ended up in the same year at school! People thought they were twins but they were just 10ish months apart! Clearly breastfeeding as contraception isn’t all that reliable.
