Travelling to Scotland 7 months pregnant

Hello all. Am I wrong for not wanting to travel to Scotland at the end of November. I'll be 7 months pregnant. I'm already feeling uncomfortable and the thought of traveling in a car for 8-9 with extra stops to walk around and toilet hours on potential bad wintery roads (especially in Scotland) it's for my cousin's wedding

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Also to add I suffer health anxiety and it's my first pregnancy at age 43. I would rather be closer to home

No I probably wouldn’t bother going. Just RSVP saying you can’t attend.

Follow your gut and listen to your body. If it feels wrong just don't go. It's not worth it.

I wouldn't have wanted to travel that pregnant. Very uncomfortable.

I travelled to the south of France by road at 7 months. I was bridesmaid at my sister’s wedding 4 hours away when I was around the same time with my second pregnancy. We had a few more breaks than normal and I went to bed earlier then everyone else law but I was absolutely fine. But it’s up to you whether you feel comfortable going (it does sound a little like you’re using it as a reason not to go though).

Not using it as an excuse but putting myself first. The wedding isn't an all day and night event. It's at 7pm at night (twilight wedding) then a buffet. To travel all that way potentially a 15 (or more) round trip for a few hours in an evening. If I went to bed earlier then there's zero point. I understand a sisters wedding being a bridesmaid but this is my cousin who I've not seen in quite a few years

Can you fly or take the train? I wouldn't hesitate about travelling to Scotland, weather shouldn't be that bad in November and we have pregnant women and babies here too and managed just fine. But 8-9 hours in the car probably won't be the most comfortable.

Anon999 · 30/08/2026 21:29

I don’t think it’s an unreasonable journey at 7 months pregnant if you can stay over at the wedding venue/nearby. But you are you, and if it’s too much for you then respectfully decline

I don't fly as I have a fear of flying. Haven't flown in years. The wedding is at 7pm at night just a quiet service and a buffet. It's not a full day and evening

I holidayed in Scotland at 7 months pregnant, including the long drive up and down. But I also flew to the US for a long weekend when I was about 30 weeks so maybe not the example you are looking for OP.

Personally I would go and take a copy is my notes just in case.

I guess the question is will you regret missing the wedding?

You're not obligated to go. If you dont want to go, don't go. Its 100% your choice. Don't let anyone guilt trip you into going.

I think you should go, OP. Can't you get the train if the plane is really out of the question? However, if your anxiety is this extreme and out of control I suppose you won't. I say this next thing as the close relative of someone with crippling lifelong anxiety. Please, please, please get some help with it. It's not just limiting your own life, it will affect your child's life and the rest of your family too.

I'm already getting help with medical and therapy and I'm a million times better. It's just I've wanted this for so Long never thought it would happen and I'm wanting to put myself first during the pregnancy

Oh God , don’t go

Why travel all that way for what is basically an evening do
Just reply that you’re sadly unable to attend

I wouldn’t travel all that way for a wedding ( unless it’s was one of my children ) and I’m retired and have plenty of time ( and am obviously not pregnant ! )

Very best wishes with that. You're doing the right thing. Flowers

If you don't feel you will be comfortable going don't go.
You are not being unreasonable not to want to go

You are not being unreasonable to not want to go. An invitation is not a summons.
Don't let anyone make you feel bad about it.

Couple of other points for you to consider OP. Whereabouts is wedding? Is it remote? Have you any idea what medical facilities are nearby? Maternity services in a lot of places in scotland can be a considerable distance away. (Obviously doesn't apply if wedding is in central belt or a city)

Cantthinkofanewusernameffs · 30/08/2026 21:58

I wouldn't travel for 8 or 9 hours for a 5 hour wedding of someone I hadn't seen for years. The weather and being pregnant wouldn't even come into the decision.

GardenCovent · 30/08/2026 21:59

If you don’t want to go you don’t have to.
Its a personal choice, everyone is different.
I would have done it but it is your choice

forthelasttim · 30/08/2026 22:02

Trains were cancelled in November last time I went to Scotland due to heavy snow.

I wouldn't go away from home at 7 months pregnant.

BigWig78 · 30/08/2026 22:15

I wouldn’t say 7 months is that pregnant. But equally you don’t have to go anywhere you don’t feel comfortable. And I’d assume you are a high risk pregnancy so you’re naturally going to be more worried and want to be close to home. Just send a lovely card and say sorry I cannot be there. They won’t care that much, in the nicest way possible.
