Travelling to Scotland 7 months pregnant

Hello all. Am I wrong for not wanting to travel to Scotland at the end of November. I'll be 7 months pregnant. I'm already feeling uncomfortable and the thought of traveling in a car for 8-9 with extra stops to walk around and toilet hours on potential bad wintery roads (especially in Scotland) it's for my cousin's wedding

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Could you fly?

Jan24680 · 30/08/2026 22:36

No way. Worst case scenario, pre term labour and in an air ambulance?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 30/08/2026 22:37

Actually, what? Only an evening do.
No way would I travel 9 hours each way for an evening.

Pregnant or not, November or not, I wouldn’t be driving 7 hrs plus for an evening do.

Yeah same as this, it’s unreasonably far for an evening do for a few hours.
I did many long journeys at 30-36 weeks pregnant, it’s not THAT pregnant that it precludes doing things (well the 36 weeks pg and doing long journeys can be annoying!!) but I’d not be bothering my arse with this for someone I haven’t seen for ages.

Chances are weather will be fine in November unless you are heading to the North. I can't remember snow in November since 2009 but I'm not in the proper North.

It wouldn't stop me but the long journey is definitely a good excuse to get out of it.

It’s completely up to you. I think anyone reasonable would understand you not wanting to travel, especially as it’s not an all day wedding.
On the other hand I don’t think it would be dangerous or irresponsible either (depending where in Scotland). If the worst happens there are hospitals there. Also unlikely to have snow in November unless you’re going to the highlands.
Alternatively can you look at getting a train? More relaxing and more convenient for toilet stops and stretching your legs. You could hire a car up there if needed.
We declined an evening do in Scotland for a cousin DH is not especially close to, it would have been very expensive for flights & hotels for 2 nights or a 9h each way drive! Also DC not invited. We just decided it was too much for a few hours at an evening party.

Travelling 7 hours for an evening do wouldn't be for me. Beyond that, travelling 7ish hours with a couple of breaks would have been fine for me at 7 months.

In terms of "to Scotland", it would depend on where. Glasgow or Perth are very different compared to trekking to Thurso.

It sounds like you've decided anyway, so just decline. You don't need a big reason beyond it not suiting you.

Justmuddlingalong · 31/08/2026 11:27

I would decline.
If challenged, tell them you don't know how you'll feel by November, so you're declining now to free up an invitation for someone else.
