How long was your 3rd labour?

I am due my 3rd in December and my hospital is 50 mins drive away. My first labours weren’t quick (8 hours+) just wondering if I am going to need a plan B if we can’t get there. I definitely don’t want to have her on the side of the motorway!

It would be good to hear your birth stories for number 3 and how long your first and second took in comparison.

I was induced but I think once I was taken down to labour ward about 1230 my baby was born at 1525 after 3 pushes!

My first was 4 hours, 2nd was just over 2 hours and I was induced with my 3rd as my waters had gone but labour didn’t start and from when they started the drip to when she was born was just over 1.5hrs.

1st was around 18hrs
2nd 8 hrs
3rd 48 minutes

Where do you live that you’re 50 mins from a hospital?!

First - section
Second - 23 hours 55 minutes from first twinge to baby's arrival. Pushed for 20 minutes.
Third - about 11 hours from twinge to birth. Pushed for about 10.

1st was about 2 days
2nd was about 12 hours
3rd was 3 hours
4th i had my waters broke and it was about 2 hours

5 hours, 2 hours, 1 hour.

In the north of Sussex it’s 50mins to a hospital.

Really? To ESH?

Mine were induced, first was 3 hours (8lb 4), second was 27 minutes (8lb 13 and no time for any pain relief) and they told me the next would be bigger and faster….I didn’t dare have a third, I got my tubes cut instead.

My second labour was so quick that I only just got to the hospital in time, so I had a planned home birth with the third. I was in labour for around 5 hours, but the baby was in the occipito-posterior position (not suspected until she came out looking at the ceiling) and I expect I'd have been much quicker otherwise.

First 17 hours
Second., 3rd and 4th just under 3 hours each.

My first was 7 hours, 10 days overdue. Second was 8 hours, then had to have an emergency c-section, 11 days overdue. Third was about 5 hours, 2 weeks early.

Well we’ve got Andy Burnham now so it just keeps going and going…

My third was the longest by far - whole different experience, my body just decided to be a bit more relaxed third time
round. First and second similar around 8 hours and third maybe 18. It was really unexpected for me. Not more painful or anything just loads slower!

1st - 8h
2nd - 12h (she was back to back)
3rd - 1h 50m

fast but still plenty of time to get moving. I just didn’t hang about when the contractions started and went straight to hospital for number 2 & 3.

Yes. It’s a known hospital black spot. There was a proposal to build a hospital at Pease Pottage to remedy the situation but funding could not be secured.
There are local minor injuries units which are ok to a point, as long as nothing serious happens and it isn’t a weekend. If a child needs a blood test, local phlebotomy services can’t cater for this so it’s a 2 hr round trip to ESH…
It’s madness.

Wow some very fast labours! So probably a good idea to have a plan B just in case.

I am in the south west in the countryside.
I do have a midwife led clinic 10 mins away but the midwives there are responsible for home births in 2 counties so there’s a chance it won’t be an option, also if something went wrong there I would end up in a hospital that is in special measures and not one I have had good experiences with so I am a bit worried about that. I guess the other option is a free birth and call a doula. Definitely wouldn’t be my first choice though.

DC1 - 23 hours from the first contraction
DC2 - 3.5 hours
DC3 - 3.5 hours

DS 10 hours
DD 4.25 hours
DD 2.5 hours

All labourers started around midnight 🤷‍♀️
All home births.

Yeah i don't know why they don't just improve Crawley hospital tbh.
But I still can't think where would be 50 minutes from ESH. Or at least, where would be 50 minutes from there and not closer to another hospital

Plenty of villages in N Sussex have this issue. Worthing / Chichester / Haywards Heath are alternatives but all about the same distance. Traffic doesn’t help. Public transport takes even longer.
